"Do you want to watch something interesting? I promised I'd let you watch one." He wrapped his arm around her shoulder and winked at her.
She rolled her eyes and pushed his hand away. "I'm watching something that actually matters."
"If you want, I can join the spar and emerge the victor." He teased and she knew that he would do it if she said the word.
"What do you really want, Dairon?" She whispered, looking around and hoping they were not distracting the other spectators.
"Let's go home." He pleaded. "We need to talk."
"I'm not talking about anything with you." She scoffed.
"Can we go back home?" He asked.
"No."
"Then you can't blame me for taking you back home anyways." He threatened with a laugh that she found annoying.
What was wrong with him?
She glanced at Alaina who was minding her own business and acting like she and Dairon did not exist in her world. She grudgingly stood since she knew that he would compel her to follow him anyway.
"What do you want?" She glared at him as soon as they were away from the others.
"Do you like watching them that much?" He taunted.
"If there is nothing, I'm going back." She threatened.
He grabbed her hand before she could take the second step. "Sinos wants to talk to you."
"You should have said that twenty minutes ago. It would save us both the agony." She rolled her eyes.
"I could do something about that." He offered and she knew he was talking about reversing time so he would say it earlier. She shook her head as she felt the dizziness return. She did not want her brain to be a mess anymore.
She wanted to know how his spells had that kind of effect on her but what she asked was, "Why doesn't anyone know that you are a time demigod?"
"They knew." He answered nonchalantly.
She looked at his side profile curiously, trying to make sense of his response. "Does that mean they forgot about it? Did you make them forget?"
He looked at her blankly for a while and she thought he was not going to answer her, until he spoke again. "I lost some of my elements eight hundred years ago. I only regained them recently."
Her jaw dropped in shock. "Elements?" That meant there was more than one. Just how many elements could he control in the past? And why were they lost eight hundred years ago?
She contemplated and concluded that he wouldn't want her to ask too many questions about it, so she asked one. "Why did you lose them?"
He looked at her and remained silent.
She had probably asked one too many questions already so she shut her mouth. They teleported back to his island and ended up outside the door. She walked in, leaving him behind when she saw Sinos sitting on the couch in the living area.
"Beautiful Jas, you are finally here. I was starting to worry that this cursed fish hid you away." Sinos rattled off as soon as she arrived.
"Cursed fish." She muttered under her breath as something finally made sense. She had never paid much attention to the so called curse and thought that everyone called him that because Alaina had been banished from her clan because she gave birth to him. Now that she thought about it, that was not enough grounds to call anyone cursed.
Was he cursed to lose his elements? But why? And what were the elements he lost?
"You wanted to speak to me." She looked at Sinos, deciding to stop speculating about Dairon. She was certain that Sinos wouldn't tell her a word even if she were to ask. Besides, she had a nagging feeling that she didn't want to uncover whatever secrets Dairon was hiding.
"We can talk about it in the library. It's about the mission you will have to undertake since you forfeited the one Scarlet gave you." He announced and led the way.
"She will meet you there." Dairon announced, having just followed her into the house. He grabbed her by the waist before she could say a word and spun her around so she was facing him.
"I'll be waiting." Sinos wiggled his fingers and disappeared into the hallway, leaving them alone to talk.
"Don't go investigating me." He warned.
"I wasn't planning to." She scoffed. "Do you think everything revolves around you, that I would waste my entire life investigating you?"
Dairon tightened his hand around her so she couldn't move. "That's not what I meant. What I mean is, if you have any questions about me, you can ask me about them."
She looked at him in surprise. Did he mean it? Chalking it up as him giving up hiding since he knew that she would find out one way or another, she asked, "Why did you get cursed?"
He looked in the direction that Sinos had left then back at her. He then let go of her arms and let out a breath. "I tried to reverse time so Catalyah wouldn't die."

What?
Her lips moved but she didn't know what to say. Why was it about Catalyah? Heck, why was everything about Catalyah? Why would he take a risk to bring her back to life?
"Why would you do that?" She asked softly.
This time, she saw the sinister glint that flashed in his eyes for a second before it was gone. His jaw ticked. "That falls under a certain kind of topic."
"What kind?"
"The kind that are none of your business, the kind that you shouldn't ever try to investigate and the kind that might get you killed." He walked away, only to turn after a few steps. "I was not giving you permission to pry, flower. Rein your curiosity in if you want to stay alive for longer."
She glanced at his retreating back, puzzled by the sudden turn of events. Wasn't he willing to tell her everything just a moment ago?
He was unpredictable and confusing. She should have stopped herself from being curious. She should have minded her own business. Heck, she was not even planning to investigate any further but one name kept nagging at the back of her head. Catalyah.
She had a feeling that there was something she should know about the deceased goddess who just happened to be all everyone talked about whenever the war eight centuries ago was brought up.
Why was she a taboo topic? Why did Dairon snap after mentioning her name? Most importantly, why did he get cursed trying to save her? He must have known the repercussions of his actions.
Deciding to give one last shot, she followed him up. He was in his study, sitting behind his desk when she arrived, and he was holding a cup of tea in his hands. She held the door frame and panted from having run all the way.
He looked at her from above the tea cup.
"Is it true that Scarlet was Catalyah's friend before she betrayed her?"
That did it. The cup in his hands shattered, spewing tea all over. Her eyes widened in shock.
He was in front of her faster than she could notice him rushing over and his hand was around her neck before she could process it.
"Dairon?" She called.
His eyes flashed in hints of red as he glared at her murderously. "Did you not hear what I just said?"
"I wasn't…"
"Stay away from everything related to Catalyah!" He roared.
Her eyes stung as tears threatened to gush out. Why was he so protective of her?
She pushed his hands off her neck and he let go, which gave her the chance to reach for the doorknob behind her.
"I'll be on my way." She muttered without looking at him.
"Your way to Sinos, I hope. Not your way to find out more about her." He narrowed his eyes.
She glanced at him over her shoulder. The guilt he felt was so strong that it was consuming her but she didn't care about it. So what if he felt guilty? He didn't have any right to treat her that way just because he could be guilty about it immediately.
She rushed out and ignored him, not heading for the library where Sinos was waiting. Instead, she rushed back to her room. She opened the closet where she had hidden her notebook and opened it. It was the very notebook which she had written by getting the information from the enchanted book, where she had found a letter by Catalyah.
She had felt like she was missing something when she first read it, even though she had only read a few letters.
She decisively opened it and flipped through the pages as she checked the signed name at the bottom, only stopping when she saw Catalyah's name. She read the letter with her heart in her hands.
[To the bearer of the five element scepter.
I saw the future and I was not in it. But you were happy and that's all that matters.
Your love, Catalyah.]
Her heart raced as she read the next letter which was a response.
[To the loveliest goddess.
Hades now rules the south and that works best for us.
PS
I hope you were joking about not seeing yourself in the future—not that it was funny. I cannot exist without you, let alone be happy. Me in your heart and you in my arms is all that keeps me alive.
Your love, Dairon.]
