"What?" Jasmine was shocked. A few seconds after she expressed her shock, his words finally sunk in.

"Does that make you…a demon?" She asked through a whisper. She had promised herself not to be scared no matter what he said but a chill went down her spine as it finally made sense. How could a demigod be so strong? He couldn't possibly be an ordinary demigod. No wonder Bardumond was scared of him even though he was a god himself and was supposed to be stronger than him.

Seeing the look on her face, he let go of her hand that he was holding. "Are you scared of me?"

"No." She pursed her lips and denied her own feelings.

"Who else knows about it?" She asked.

"Lolanthe." He answered and she frowned. Why would Lolanthe know such a thing? He knew what she was thinking so he satisfied her curiosity. "When Catalyah died, I wanted to use my demon powers to bring her back to life. I needed Lolanthe's presence to make that possible and I had to explain my identity to her so she would agree to help me out."

She swallowed past a bitter lump. She knew that it was childish to be jealous of Catalyah for the fact that he was willing to use his demon powers to bring her back to life but that didn't stop her from feeling it.

"Why didn't you manage to bring her back?" She asked.

He looked like he was too pained to say it so she prepared to ask a different question. She was yet to get the first word out when he interrupted her.

"Many things happened." He muttered a sigh. "Lolanthe and I came up with a plan. We were going to switch up Catalyah's soul with one that was ready for rebirth. It would take a few days for the plan to complete but once she was reborn, she would quickly regain her identity. However, just when we were about to do the switch, Rian found out. That bastard ruined everything." He spat in annoyance.

"But Catalyah was his granddaughter. Shouldn't he want to bring her back to life more than anyone else?" She didn't understand.

"Did I mention that someone appeared behind Catalyah during our fight?" He asked.

She nodded, having filled in on her own that the traitor he mentioned was Scarlet.

"Scarlet had found evidence to prove to Rian that what Catalyah wanted was not to be his apprentice but to overthrow and assassinate him. She used it to turn him against Catalyah so he didn't support the idea of bringing her back to life. He punished us for it." He stared into the distance. "Blaze couldn't let Lolanthe go through with it anymore. Although he wanted his daughter back, no one is allowed to tamper with the fate of any mortal or immortal. I gave up on my plan temporarily but a few days before Catalyah's birthday, I realized that there was someone closer to her heart than Lolanthe—Narilia."

Jasmine somehow knew where this was headed and it was not in the best direction.

He took both of her hands and placed them on his temples. She frowned and was about to ask what he was doing when his memories started seeping in her head as though she was watching them.

Eight Hundred years ago.

Narilia snuck out of the castle as soon as Dairon summoned her, then materialized on his island. After hearing the rumor about Lolanthe and Dairon trying to bring Catalyah back to life, it didn't take her long to know what he had called her about.

She burst into tears as soon as she saw him. "She thought I had betrayed her by having feelings for you. I didn't have time to explain the situation before she died."

Dairon hugged her to comfort her. "I'm sure she didn't blame you. She knew that you liked Bardumond."

She wasn't reassured so she shrugged and played with her fingers. "What do we have to do to bring her back to life?"

He looked past her so he wouldn't see her shocked expression. "We are going to the twelfth level of the underworld. I'm certain that's where Catalyah's soul is. I need to send her soul to the first level, where the souls are sent when they are ready for rebirth but before that, I need someone who was close to her when she was alive to trigger it."

She didn't think she understood anything he was saying because she was shocked but she nodded. "If we do that, will Catalyah return to life?" She asked.

"She will." He ascertained. "Are you ready? This is the best time."

When she nodded, he teleported them to the underworld.

She was scared at first, being in the place that everyone was scared of yet no one had ever been certain of what it looked like. It was scarier than she thought, with random ditches that appeared out of normal ground and she would have fallen into them if Dairon didn't steady her on time.

They arrived at a black metallic door and he pushed it open with a force of air, then he stood and waited for her to go in.

"Go in."

"What?" She turned to look at him in trepidation. Was she supposed to enter that scary place by herself? Why was Catalyah's soul kept in such a place anyway?

"It's the most secure place." Dairon explained. "Catalyah was Ulke's mate as well. He doesn't want to run the risk of me stealing her soul away. An alarm might be triggered if I were the one going in."

She looked reluctant to go.

"If you don't want to go, I can send you back to the realm of immortals." He reassured her, so she wouldn't feel like she was being forced.

She bit her bottom lip and looked between him and the gate. In the end, she took a deep breath in determination. "When Catalyah was alive, I was unnecessarily jealous of her. I didn't realize how much she loved me. Although I loved her too, I didn't do enough to show it to her. This is the least I can do for her."

He smiled when she took the first step to get in.

"Narilia," He called for her. "Take the third tunnel to your right. It will lead you to what looks like The Proconian Isles but is merely an illusion. A white crystal with wings around it that look like Catalyah's will be floating atop a red velvet pillow. It will disappear and come to me as soon as you touch it."

She nodded and made him repeat the instructions so she would be certain, before disappearing into the gate.

"What happened?" She asked when she stopped seeing his memories. Her hands were still holding his head but everything had gone blank. She was asking about both the reason why she couldn't see anything anymore and what happened to Narilia.

He took both of her hands in hers. "Ulke found out about our plan and sabotaged it. Narilia lost Catalyah's soul when she got to it. I knew that it was almost midnight so I altered time to slow it down. I thought I had saved both of us from turning into demons but when Narilia came out of the gate, she looked different in any way. Her eyes and hair were black and her skin so pale it was almost white. She had become a demoness."

Jasmine didn't know what to say. She hadn't expected that Narilia had become a demoness under such circumstances.

He squeezed her hand to alleviate his hurt. "She had lost Catalyah's soul. She did tap and it disappeared but it didn't get to me. She accidentally sent it to a different realm. No one knows which realm she sent it to."

She squeezed his hand. "It's not your fault." She finally comprehended his guilt.

She had been wondering why he felt so guilty even though he never talked about it. Not only did he feel guilty about accidentally killing Catalyah, but he also felt as though it was his fault that Narilia turned into a demon.

He didn't say a word as he continued to study her. "If you are worried that Catalyah would one day come to life and take your place, you have nothing to worry about."

She pursed her lips. "I'm not worried about her. At least not anymore. All that matters is that you love me." She reassured him.

He knew that not all her words were truthful but the ones she meant were enough to alleviate most of his guilt.

She held his head on one side and couldn't understand why he wasn't letting her read his mind anymore. She decided to ask what she wanted to know. "If you found her soul and there was a chance for you to revive her now, would you go for it?"

What do you think? Would he grab the chance and ditch Jasmine, grab the chance fast and keep both, or let it be since he has Jasmine now?
