"I have to go." She turned to leave, only for him to pull her hand.

"Jasmine."

She turned back to face him.

"I will make sure your wedding banquet goes as you planned. No matter where you wanted to hold it initially or who you wanted to invite, I will make it work for you." He promised.

That was a pretty big promise and she didn't think it was necessary. "You don't have to."

"I want to." He ran a hand down the side of her face. "I have never done anything valuable for my daughter. This time, I want to be the father who actually deserves you as my daughter."

His words made her heart melt. "Thank you, father." She hugged him and summoned Phoenix to fly away.

That night, Dairon sat by the windowsill of the library to paint. She brought him fruits and sat near him.

"I need to make a trip to the underworld." He stated as he finished drawing the outline of his painting with a piece of charcoal.

"Why do you have to go? Ulke is there." She was worried about him going on his own when the idiotic demon wanted nothing more than to kill him.

"Don't worry about him. He is in the water kingdom." He wiped off the charcoal stains from his hands.

She watched his actions absent-mindedly. "That doesn't guarantee that he will not want to return."

"Well, I'm certain that you have nothing to worry about." He reassured her.

She let out the breath she had been holding. "I went to Lord Blaze's castle today. I know a little about Goddess Lolanthe's mother." She explained everything she had learnt from Bardumond.

"Thank you. I know what to do with this information." He grinned in satisfaction.

She disapproved of the idea even though she didn't know what he had in mind yet. "We do this together. You cannot do it on your own no matter what it is." He grabbed her hand. Before he could try to talk her out of it, she stopped him.

"You promised me that we would get rid of our enemies together. How can I let you face any part of it on your own? I'm coming with you whether or not you let me and don't even think of compelling me." She warned, glaring at him threateningly to which he laughed.

"I wasn't thinking of doing any such thing." He smiled, but it faded within just a moment. "It's just going to be hard. I'll need to go to the underworld for the plan to work."

She thought about it for a moment.

"Take me along." She finally decided.

"You have no idea what you are saying." He doubted she knew what kind of place the underworld was.

"I have no idea alright, but I want to find out. Dairon, you are an engaged demigod. You are no longer allowed to put your life in danger by doing everything on your own." She stated seriously like she was firing off rules at him.[1]

"Your word is law, milady." He took her hand and kissed the back of it. She squinted her eyes at him.

"I promise, I will not do everything on my own. Does that make you less worried?" He asked, realizing that she was in no mood to joke around.

"When are we going to the underworld?" She asked.

"Tonight." He pointed at the moon outside. "When the moon is overhead."

"Okay…" Confusion clouded her mind. Weren't they supposed to go long before midnight so they would have enough time to go and return to the realm of immortals before midnight?

She had a series of questions but since he was the son of the King of the underworld, she left it up to him. He probably knew the underworld better than anyone else.

The son of the king of the underworld. It was still unbelievable that Dairon was Ulke's son. The only thing they had in common was the shape of their fangs, according to Bardumond's observation. Otherwise, they were as different as black from white.

"I'll get ready. What do I need to bring?" She stood to head for her room.

"Nothing. Just yourself."

Although Dairon said that she didn't need to prepare for anything, she wore a pair of comfortable pants for ease of movement in case they had to flee.

He chuckled when he saw her.

"Is that necessary? We can always teleport if we really have to flee."

Her response was to grab her sword and sheath it against her waist. "You can never be certain about the underworld." She rolled her hair up and fixed it into a bun before giving him a knowing look.

"Ready?"

He didn't want to burst her bubble but she couldn't use a sword in the underworld. Only demons could.

He held her hand and teleported to the underworld.

For a moment, she felt as though her world had been filled with darkness.

She blinked to adjust to it and realized that it was not nearly as dark as she thought.

"What was that?" She asked about the darkness she had felt for a second.

"That's probably because you are alive." He tugged on her hand to lead her through a tunnel.

She looked around curiously. She didn't believe she thought that way either but the underworld was beautiful. The walls of the tunnel they were going through were made of beautiful rocks of different light hues. It was oddly calming, especially since she had expected the underworld to be scary.

"Have I walked through this tunnel before?" She asked aloud.

"Do you find it familiar?" He asked as he took a turn, pulling her along through another chamber of the tunnel.

"I think I have." She tried to remember whether it was a dream but couldn't, while he shot her a glance and seemed to comprehend the situation.

She stopped trying to figure it out, chalking it up to having some of his memories thanks to the other half of his soul.

They finally left the tunnel. She felt something start to awaken inside her but she was yet to know what it was when he informed her that they had arrived at their destination.

It was a garden whose label she had not seen but she knew that the souls lived in group and each group was kept in a different location.

It must be because she had read a gazillion books that nothing felt strange.

"I hope to find Delaney here." Dairon took a breath and tried to summon the demonness' soul. It took a while and just as he was about to give up and try a different group, he felt her presence.

She had taken the form of a ghost and looked exactly as she did when she was alive.

He turned to see her and as soon as she saw who had summoned her, she gave a deep vow.

Jasmine tried to figure out what she was saying but couldn't catch a word except his name. What language was she speaking?

Dairon let her straighten up and when she saw Jasmine clearly, she looked shocked. She held out a hand, speaking out words that Jasmine couldn't make head or tail of.

As if on cue, Dairon translated her words to Jasmine.

"She called you her grandchild. She recognizes you." He explained.

The words struck her heart. She had forgotten that being Lolanthe's daughter made her Delaney's granddaughter, albeit adopted.

She closed in on the ghost. "Grandmother."

Delaney had stretched out her hand. Jasmine thought deeply about it. This was her chance to get her on their side so she glanced at Dairon for permission. When he nodded, she took Delaney's hands. They felt so light that they could as well be part of the air.

Delaney looked relieved as she spoke in the language Jasmine now knew to be the language of demons.

"She is relieved that you are not a demoness." Dairon translated.

"What's wrong with being one?" She asked, mad at the gods for making demons feel awful about their nature.

"She is relieved that her life was not lost in vain. Seeing you, she knows that her daughter did not end up having any demon blood in her."

Jasmine felt her heart break, and it was even worse that Delaney was mistaken. She was only Lolanthe's child by adoption. Did Delaney also mistake her for Catalyah?

If she did, would it be alright to let her think she was someone she actually wasn't?

[1]..... According to the immortal realm rules, they have completed all the requirements to be married but to the human realm, they are engaged until they complete the wedding/vows using the human realm law. Technically, it's up to them whether to consider themselves married or unmarried.
