"Jasmine? The door is gone. You don't have to leave." Sophie joyously hugged her daughter tightly. Those deities did have hearts after all. They let her decide whether or not she wanted to go back. Harry didn't fully comprehend what was happening, but when he heard that his daughter would not leave, he happily hugged the two of them.
"Let's go back and catch some fish. Dahlia will be mad at us for leaving her alone if we don't." Harry led them back to the fishing platform.
The family continued fishing as though nothing had happened.
"The one with the least fish is a crab!" Dahlia laughed at her sister for having no fish in her bucket.
Jasmine shrugged as she conceded defeat. "This crab is going to tickle you to death!" She grabbed the girl and started tickling her sides.
"That's enough, she will pass out from laughing too much." Sophie laughed at her daughters' interaction and led the way back home.
Following the rule they set earlier, Jasmine and Sophie went to the kitchen to prepare dinner together.
"Jasmine, could you pass me the radishes?" Sophie signalled to Jasmine who was washing and chopping the vegetables. "Jasmine?"
"Huh?" Jasmine jolted from her thoughts.
Sophie set down her spatula and hugged her. "Darling, you don't have to leave. Why are you still sad?"
Jasmine took a deep breath, her gaze distant. "I feel empty… it's as though part of my soul is missing."
Sophie's hand froze for an instant before she rubbed Jasmine's back gently. "Do you want to go back to work? Perhaps you feel that way because your work has always been part of you."
"I don't feel like going anywhere at the moment." Jasmine hugged her arms.
"Why don't you go to your room and have some rest? I will call you when dinner is ready." She urged, so Jasmine went upstairs.
"You will be alright." Sophie muttered as she watched her leave. She slowly sunk into thought. She had previously thought that some things would remain a secret, but now she was not so certain anymore.
Jasmine was about to lie in bed when the door opened ever so slightly and a head of pigtails peeked in.
"I already saw you. You can come in." She laughed, making the girl feel bummed for getting caught.
"You always catch me!" She complained and rushed to throw herself onto Jasmine's bed. "Are you feeling sad?"
"Just tired." She petted the girl.
"You know you can tell me anything." She mimicked the words she had always heard from her parents and sister whenever she had something bothering her.
Jasmine smiled sweetly. "If there is anything you need to know, you will be the first to know." She tapped her nose.
"I know what you need. You need some sister time." Dahlia winked and reclined on the bed, holding a pillow onto her belly.
"I know just what to read." Jasmine slid off the bed and selected a book with a blue cover. "We haven't read this before, have we?"
"No, we haven't. But even if we had, it would be fun to read it again with you." Dahlia excitedly checked out the synopsis.
"When did you become so sweet-tongued? It's a pity you still cannot pass your spelling tests." Jasmine reclined next to her and opened the book, which she placed on the pillow on their laps.
"Jasmine…" She complained.
"Okay, okay, I will forget the spelling test. You do well in all of your other subjects after all." Jasmine wrapped her arm around her shoulder and they began reading together. Being the slower of the two, Dahlia set the pace to turn the pages when she was done.
"Your necklace is glowing." Dahlia gasped in awe.
Jasmine was momentarily distressed, but it seemed to be a normal phenomenon because the necklace restored its original color.
"That's beautiful. Can I touch it?" Dahlia looked up pleadingly.
"Of course."
"This looks expensive…. Oh no!" Dahlia gasped when the chain of the necklace suddenly broke.
"Just how hard did you tug it?" Jasmine was disappointed. "It's a present, you know. Presents are supposed to be treasured."
"I'm sorry, Jasmine." Dahlia was shocked too. She didn't think she pulled it hard.
Jasmine slid off the bed and opened the window, slightly heaving for breath. It was just a necklace and she knew that it was an accident. Why was she feeling so upset?
"Jas, are you mad at me?" Dahlia hugged her from behind.
She felt strange… it was as though heat was rising up her body.

"No, Dahlia… get away from me!" She yelled when she realized what was happening.
"But if I leave…" Dahlia was reluctant.
"Just go!" Jasmine ordered sternly. It was the fire and she couldn't hold on for much longer. "Listen to me Dahlia. Wait for me downstairs."
"Get out!" The window was in shards before she could stop the fire and the first thing she did was turn to look at her sister. She was scared, as expected.
"Dahlia…"
The girl took a step back in fright.
Jasmine took a deep breath. That would be her reaction if she were to see her sister's eyes suddenly set a window on fire so she didn't blame her. However, it made her sad nonetheless.
"Dahlia, I'm sorry. I…"
"The curtains are on fire! Get away from there!" Dahlia yelled in panic. "Mama! Papa!"
"Dahlia…" Jasmine wanted to stop her, but it was too late. Sophie and Harry came barging into the room.
"Jasmine?" Harry was shocked.
"Get Dahlia out of here. Don't alert anyone." Sophie anxiously instructed and ran to her daughter. She turned to look at the hesitant duo. "Do as I say. Go on."
"Get away. I don't want to hurt you." Jasmine took a few steps back, only for Sophie to close in on her.
"You won't if you listen to me." Sophie smiled gently at her. "Jasmine, come here."
She blinked and unconsciously walked over.
Sophie tousled her hair, ignoring the heat that made her body feel numb from pain. "Baby, remember that time when I took you out to swim for the first time? You were only two years old. Do you remember what happened?"
"No." Jasmine shook her head.
"You don't? Then go to sleep. You will remember when you wake up." She took her hand and pulled her towards the bed. Jasmine obediently climbed in and fell asleep within seconds.
Sophie sighed in relief when the fire went off and the window pieced itself back to normal.
She looked at her sleeping daughter and her eyes caught the necklace on the floor, which now looked like a flame in place of a heart. Her eyes clouded with darkness. "I did everything you asked. Why do you still want to take my daughter away?"

Sinos put Dairon in bed and tried to wake him in vain.
"Bardumond!" He immediately summoned the god of health.
Bardumond materialized into the room in the next few seconds, and looked around. When he saw Sinos, he facepalmed. "Of course, it's you. Only you summon me so rudely."
"Yell at me later." He pointed at the side of the room where Dairon was in bed.
"Dairon! What happened to him?" Bardumond rushed over to check on him.
"It was the door." Sinos briefly explained what had unfolded.
"I'll check to see what I can do." Bardumond tried not to freak out although the situation didn't look promising.
"What's wrong?" Sinos could guess from Bardumond's expression that it must be fatal.
Bardumond massaged his eyebrows with an inaudible curse.
"What did you do, Dairon?" He would have punched the daylights out of him if he was not unconscious. "Why do demigods fall for the charm of humans so easily?"
"I've been wondering that too, but what happened?" Sinos had a bad feeling.
"He…. This bastard threw away his life!" Bardumond gritted his teeth.
"What language are you speaking?" Sinos was dying from the suspense.
"It was for the best." Dairon muttered. When Bardumond checked on him, he almost exploded in fury.
"He is trying to defend her even when unconscious." He glared down at Dairon.. "You don't even know her. How could you give her half of your soul? How could you casually give a human the power to kill you?"
