After walking for a while, Jasmine noticed a pool. One look and she knew that it had been built by Dairon who loved everything blue.
Finally he had made something useful. She thought as she studied it. It was difficult to estimate its depth since there wasn't enough light. Even so, it was still great. She could come here for a swim! She could even bring Rosetta with her.
Of course, she couldn't simply jump into a pool she knew nothing about; she went back to the mansion intending to ask Dairon about it.
She knocked the door to his room, feeling displeased that she had to see him again. Even so, it was about the pool so she sucked it in.
"Come in." Came his calm voice, prompting her to push the door open.
"I saw…" She was not intending to waste time before stating her reason for finding him but as soon as she saw the situation in the room, she froze on the spot. Dairon was lying on the bed wearing nothing but his inner clothes… while Bardumond massaged his body.
What kind of situation was this?
It was only when Bardumond's arm shifted that her mind stopped running wild. So he was rubbing ointment onto Dairon's skin. She unintentionally saw the burn marks all over Dairon's back.
Her hand that was still holding the door knob trembled. Were those from the day she set him on fire? He had reassured her that because he was a demigod he was alright. She didn't think it would be this serious…
Bardumond turned to face her with a smile, standing to leave Dairon's bed. "You are back. Are you done frying your fish?"
"She was frying fish? I would love some." Dairon finally spoke for the first time, turning to look at her in anticipation.
She retracted her gaze from Dairon. "I wasn't. Even if I were to fry fish, I wouldn't give any to you."
"What a bummer. I'm really in the mood for some fried fish though." Dairon laughed, making her scoff at his ability to grab every chance to torture her.
"Isn't that suicide, though?" She mocked him and ignored his so-called craving. "I'll go to the library." She turned to leave.
"Wait. You should take some lemon water." Bardumond called after her.
She paused and asked over her shoulder, "Why?"
"You came into contact with many plants. Some of them are not as harmless as they look. Lemon water will expel whatever effect any of them could have." He explained.
"Okay." She changed her route and headed towards the kitchen instead.
"Never mind. I'll teach you how to do it." He followed her as she walked down the hallway.
Was there a technique for boiling water? She smiled at his insane excuse. "You have something to tell me?" She asked as he caught up to her.
"Was I obvious?" He smiled gently. "What did you mean by that?"
"By what?" She tilted her head and looked up at his side profile.
"Isn't that suicide?" He repeated the question she had asked when Dairon claimed to want fried fish.
She chuckled. "I was just teasing him."
He nodded and continued to walk beside her in silence, seeming in deep thought.
"Is something wrong?" She asked out of politeness.
"No. Everything is okay." He jolted from his thoughts. "I just miss a special goddess. It will be her birthday soon but I can't be with her."
His words surprised her. She realized that she knew nothing about Bardumond, and she had never been curious about him. Even so, she couldn't help asking about the goddess he had mentioned. "Is she your girlfriend?"
Bardumond shook his head, his expression gentle as he talked about her. "Her parents took me in when mine died in a war. She has been my sister since then."
She didn't expect him to be so open and explain such details to her since they were not close, but it made her curious. "Why can't you be together? Is she in a different realm?"
"She died—in war." He led the way into the kitchen.
"I'm sorry." She muttered.

"It's alright. It's just that I randomly remembered her." He reached for a lemon and passed it to her. "Perhaps it's because I miss her too much…many things you did lately reminded me of her."
She frowned in confusion. How could her actions remind anyone of a goddess? "What kind of things?"
"She hated demigods, especially water demigods. Ever since she knew Dairon, she would disdainfully call him a fish whenever she saw him." Bardumond chuckled.
She tried to hold on her laughter but it came bursting out. "Dairon as a fish… it actually sounds kinda cute."
"Don't let him hear you." Bardumond laughed while lowering his voice.
"When you said that Dairon was being suicidal by wanting to eat fish, I thought about her. Sorry… I'm not trying to take you as a substitute." He apologized when he realized just how much he had talked, and how sad she suddenly looked.
"No, it's nothing." She didn't mind. "I have a sister too. I just thought about what would happen to me if I lost her. It must hurt a lot." She could still feel the stab in her heart when she saw Dahlia in a burning room…luckily nothing bad happened to her. It hurt to imagine the outcome if Dahlia were to really perish.
"If it makes you feel better, you can think of me as a sister." She declared before she could stop herself.
"I would be glad to." He happily accepted the offer. A human as his sister… he had never imagined such a thing. Based on their age difference and the human growth rate, he was probably several times older than her ancestors. She wouldn't even be his great granddaughter. Yet this young human was now his sister. Why was he suddenly happier?
When Bardumond left, she prepared lemon water and started to drink it. Her thoughts slowly wandered to how Sophie had once fried fish and topped it with slices of ripe lemons.
Before she realized what she was doing, she was holding a tray with a plate of fried fish.
She let out a sigh. Did that insane demigod compel her again? Although that was what she thought, she carried the tray to his room.
"What were the two of you talking about?" He asked as soon as he felt her presence, referring to her secret conversation with Bardumond.
"Nothing that's part of your business." She placed the tray on the table near his bed.
"Fried fish! I knew you cared about me the most." He shoved his complaint back to his stomach when the aroma filled the air.
"I don't care about you. Don't be ridiculous." She shot him a glare. Was he addicted to creating evidence of her supposed love for him out of thin air?
Before he could spew more nonsense, she asked about the pool she had seen earlier. "Is it safe for swimming? How deep is it?"
"One meter at the sides and two and a half at the centre." He explained briefly.
She thought about it and nodded. There wasn't any swimwear among her clothes but she could make some and go swimming the following day. But why did a water demigod need a swimming pool when there was the entire sea surrounding the island? She wondered.
'Of course, the swimming pool is for you.' He thought, having read her thoughts. She must still be scared of the sea after her ordeal, so he thought a pool was much better for her.
"Jasmine, I need to rub ointment on my skin." He spoke when he realized that she was preparing to leave.
"Didn't Bardumond just do that?" She asked with a frown.
"There are two kinds. The second one should be applied half an hour after the first." He gave a random explanation.
"The logic is strange." She called him out for lying. "Why did Bardumond leave if he knew that you needed a second rub of ointment?"
"It will heal faster if you are the one doing it. It's easier to undo your own damage than for someone else to undo it." He gave an explanation that even he wouldn't believe. Seeing as she was about to ignore him, he creased his brows. "Ow…"
"Does it hurt?" She rushed to his side in an instant.
"No, it's alright." He gritted his teeth, seeming like he was enduring it.
She looked at his back and sat next to him helplessly. "I'm sorry."
He knew that she was apologizing for hurting him. He patted her head. "You don't need to apologize." After all, she didn't do it on purpose.
She took the ointment and started applying it on the wounds even though she initially didn't want to. Her eyes drooped. "It's not okay. I almost hurt my family. The worst thing is that I don't even know what's happening."
He felt the temperature of her hand start to rise against his back, so he took it and kissed her knuckles. "I hate to agree with you but there is a high possibility that you will harm the people around you.. If you want, I can teach you how to control it."
