"What are you doing here?" She shrieked in shock, sliding against the floor of the pool when she moved too suddenly.
Having expected her movement, he grabbed her waist and pulled her back to him. "Would you rather have Rosetta accompany you?"
"Yes!" Wasn't it obvious?
"Oh?" He doubtfully nibbled her ear which immediately flushed scarlet. "But your body says that you prefer me instead." He gently glided a finger down her back. "Your body temperature is rising, flower. Are you angry… or flustered?"
"Let go of me!" She growled and tried to stomp on his foot. To her chagrin, he seemed to expect all her movements and dodged them with ease. She was going to die of anger! Why was he so annoying?
When he let go of her, she immediately swam away towards the edge of the pool.
"Are you going to run away?" He asked with a teasing laugh.
"Of course. Do you think I'm an idiot?" She scoffed at him. She would be insane if she didn't grab the first chance to get away. "Where is Rosetta?"
"She went back to the mansion." He responded naturally. From his tone, she guessed that he had compelled her. He must have pre-planned everything. She wanted to scold him, but her words stuck at the tip of her tongue when he sat on the edge of the swimming pool.
She thought it was already unfair that he was insanely handsome. Did his body have to be so ravishing as well? There must be countless women pining for him…
Feeling her gaze on his chest, he cleared his throat and grinned. "If you really want to run away, that's a good decision, but I think this spot would be great for your practice."
"Practice?" She was still in a daze.
"You agreed to be taught how to control your powers. You have not forgotten, have you?"
"Of course not. But… the swimming pool?" She looked at the water doubtfully.
"Good idea." He pinched his chin now that she mentioned it. "This will eliminate the possibility of accidents."
"That's water! And I'm learning to use fire." She wondered whether he had dropped his brain on his way back.
He smiled at her concern. If he told her that her power was much stronger than ordinary water, would she be terrified? Not ready to take the risk, he changed his mind." Not in the water. This spot is far from the others and is safe in case things get out of hand."
"Okay." It made sense. "I'll get changed. I hope you wear something more conservative too." Or else, I will hear nothing of what you teach later. She mentally added.
"Are you afraid that seeing my body will have an effect on you?" He teased.
"Shut up and get dressed!" She disappeared into the changing cubicle, making him burst into laughter at her embarrassment.
When she came back, he was sitting on a rock near the pool.
"Sinos agreed to help. He will join us soon." He reported when she sat next to him.
"Okay." She was a little nervous about Sinos. Would he deliberately make things difficult for her? She hoped not, but she could only forget about him for now. "What do I need to do?"
Dairon pulled her down from the rock they were sitting on and picked a white stone from the dried pool. He placed it on the rock and pushed her to stand a few meters away from it.
"Focus on the white stone." He instructed.
"Okay." She found the order odd but she tried to focus. "Am I supposed to feel like an idiot?" She asked a few seconds into focusing.
"At least you don't look like one." He teased her, earning a fiery glare.
"Try to focus all your senses on it. Do not let your mind wander until there is nothing else in your line of vision. When it's the only thing you can see, imagine it burning." He explained strictly.
She nodded and tried again. But no matter how hard she tried, how could she see the stone and fail to notice everything else around it? The plants were colorful, obviously easier to notice than the white stone.
"The first time is usually hard." He stood beside her but that made it even harder for her to focus. She let out a sigh. It was just looking at a stone. Why was she tired?
She noticed a red glow from the corner of her eye and turned towards it, her eyes widening in excitement. "That's a familiar glow."
Sure enough, the winged necklace fell at her feet soon after. She picked it up and examined it.

"It's the necklace! Didn't Dahlia break it? I forgot to check whether it could be repaired."
Dairon confirmed that it was the very necklace that had been sent to her by Alaya before. "You must have unknowingly undone the damage."
If she had not seen a burnt book restore itself to normal, she would have thought that he was exaggerating. She smiled happily.
"Thank you, Goddess Alaya, for sending it back to me." She knew that it couldn't have come back on its own.
He helped her put the necklace on and sneakily kissed her neck, pulling away when her face flushed.
"That's enough for a break. Let's resume."
She was happier so she tried again, and failed no matter what method she tried, which included squinting her eyes to accommodate a smaller radius.
Dairon laughed at her dramatics as he figured it out. "Throw the stone at me."
She was happy to get rid of it and threw it towards him in relief. However, before it could reach him, it came back aiming at her head at an alarming speed.
"W…" Her words were cut off when the stone changed its direction just before it hit her.
"Ow!" A wail resounded from nearby. Jasmine finally figured out what had just happened when she saw Sinos. Dairon had tried to hit her but she pushed the stone away… and it just had to hit Sinos, who she hoped would not hate her anymore. She glared at Dairon speechlessly.
"You were supposed to burn it." Dairon explained in self-defense.
"Are you trying to kill me? I thought we were friends." Sinos complained to Dairon, thinking that he was the one who hit him.
"You thought wrong. Give my stone back." Dairon demanded.
Sinos was displeased but he still picked the stone, which made his hand go numb. "Damn it!" He dropped it immediately, instantly realizing who the real culprit was.
He straightened up, his eyes scanning Jasmine penetratively.
Her eyes drooped. "I'm sorry. I didn't…"
"Why would it be so toxic? Did you do something wrong?" He asked her out of the blue.
"Uhm… what's toxic?" She didn't understand.
Dairon glared at him, so he had to be polite despite his displeasure towards the human.
"Do you feel anything strange?" He asked in a gentler tone.
She tried to think. "My vision is abnormally clear. Does this count?"
"A little." He nodded in approval. "Go get your stone."
"You're a good learner but a horrible teacher, Dairon." He reprimanded Dairon when he saw Jasmine try to concentrate on the stone.
"Excuse me?" Dairon's eyes narrowed threateningly.
"You are being too lenient on her." Sinos whispered, believing that Jasmine was too focused on the stone to hear them. "Throw her in the sea and let her fight her way back."
"If you do anything to hurt her…" Dairon threatened.
"I'm just saying." Sinos smiled with mischief brimming in his eyes. Perhaps Dairon didn't know it but he had trained many deities before, and he enjoyed teasing trainees the most—especially those who had their guards up like Jasmine.
"Take that!" Out of the blue, he took out a sword and hurled it at her, aiming for her neck.
"Sinos!" Dairon erupted and was about to intervene when the sword went up in flames before melting in an instant.
Jasmine looked at Sinos in disbelief before running to Dairon's side.
"Uhm, Dairon… I take back what I said about you being an awful teacher." Sinos was a murderer!
