"So my sword is gone?" Sinos lamented when he saw that it had melted.
Dairon found him annoying. "Why did you use it if you cared about it so much?"
"How was I to know that it would melt to nothing?" Even he was baffled by the amount of power she could let off. Did she have some of Dairon's strength because she had his soul?
Dairon glared at his friend and reached to pat Jasmine's head. "Try to restore it, flower."
"How do I do that?" She asked.
Before he could explain it, her body went limp in his arms.
"Jasmine!" He panicked and sprinkled some water on her face. She fluttered her eyelids, making him sigh in relief. "Are you okay?"
She nodded and tried to steady herself. "I'm alright. Just abnormally tired."
At the side, Sinos watched in disdain. "As expected, humans are nothing but useless, weak creatures. Just one move and you pass out?"
A sword appeared in Jasmine's right hand.
"That's my sword!" Sinos was overjoyed. "I'm glad you…" He was yet to complete his statement when she charged at him out of the blue.
He dodged, only for her to try and stab him, each move more vicious than the last. A stone appeared behind his foot and tripped him, allowing her to finally topple him.
She hovered over him with the sword dangerously placed on his neck.
Her eyes were filled with bloodlust. "If you ever call me weak again, I will slit your throat."
His eyes widened as he looked into hers. "You really want to kill me. What's going on with you?" He asked in surprise.
Her hand weakened, letting go of the sword as Dairon helped her up. "I don't know. I felt strange."
Dairon glanced at his friend over Jasmine's shoulder. "That's what you get for calling my woman weak."
Sinos was speechless. Did that mean that if Jasmine were really capable of killing him, Dairon would have let her? So much for being friends for centuries.
"It's all this useless god's fault. Let's go somewhere quieter." He coaxed Jasmine who could now walk on her own.
"Hey! Are you ditching me?" Sinos stood and hurried after them.
"Will you do what you're supposed to do? I called you to help us find the source of her powers, not to try and bully her!" Dairon reprimanded him.
"When did I bully her? I only want her to be stronger. Do you think you will make any progress with how delicately you are treating her?" Sinos gritted his teeth.
"Can you guys stop fighting?" Jasmine was having a headache from the invisible swords they were throwing at each other. If they didn't calm down, this would soon turn into a battlefield.
Sinos shot a glare at his friend and calmed himself. "She cannot use too much strength. Let's sit down and take a break. I have a few questions for Jasmine."
"Okay." Jasmine hurriedly found a spot to sit, afraid that they would start yelling at each other again.
Luckily, they behaved themselves and sat obediently.
"When did you realize that your power existed?" Sinos asked when they had settled down.
She tried to think of the answer and wasn't so certain herself. Was it when she broke the mirror in Maximus' dressing chamber, or was it when a metal railing melted under her palm? Now that she thought about it, she had once broken a pillar too.
"When I came to this island." She gave a general answer. "Before I came, nothing of this sort had ever happened to me. I think something must have happened to me when I drowned in the storm. I feel different since then. Or maybe it's the environment on the island?" She guessed. Was it possible that strange things were happening to her because she was in a strange place?
Sinos glanced at Dairon, who looked down without saying a word.
He knew that Jasmine was not lying but when he saw Dairon's expression, he guessed that the latter probably knew when Jasmine's power showed up—and it was different from what Jasmine thought.
He gently scratched his brow. "Tell me about your childhood."
Jasmine tried to think but just like before, her mind was blank about all the matters regarding her childhood.

"I don't remember anything. All I remember is the people close to me—my parents, sister and best friend." She explained.
"No one else?" He probed. "Not even anyone you usually spent a lot of time with, including distant relatives?"
"My grandmother." Jasmine was relieved to remember. "Sorry I don't remember how she looks. I only know that I stayed with her when I was little."
"That's okay." Sinos tried to fit the pieces. "Do you know where she lives?"
Jasmine's head hurt slightly, making her close her eyes as she explained.
"She lives in a village far from Efinchil. It's surrounded by mountains. The environment is rich there. It's also where I was born. It's a pity that I can't think of the name." Her eyes once again drooped. Why did it feel like her childhood memory was fading?
Dairon realized this too and held her hand." That should be Monten."
"That's right! That's the name." She smiled in relief when she finally remembered the name of the place where she was born. "You've been there too?" She tilted her head to ask.
"Yes." He smiled and said nothing more, letting her continue with her explanation.
"I think… we must have lived there for some time before we moved back to Efinchil."
Sinos continued scanning her even when she was done speaking, which made her give him a puzzled look.
"Jasmine, I feel like you were born with these powers." He concluded.
"What?" That was the last thing she expected to hear. "How can I be born with powers? I was starting to think that I've been cursed or…"
She looked down at her necklace in suspicion. "That's it. Could it be this necklace? It was given to me by a goddess. Could she have enchanted it beforehand?" She reached behind her neck, ready to take it off for him to take a look.
"Jewelry does not give anyone powers. Unless they are witches—but they would never be as strong as you."
"Okay…" She was even more confused. How the hell was she stronger than witches? "But I'm human. Humans don't believe in the existence of powers because it has never existed in our realm. It's impossible for such a thing to happen."
He paid no heed to her rambling, finding it baseless. "The absence of something does not prove that it does not exist. Are you certain that your parents are both humans?"
"Yes." She responded unflinchingly.
"How old are you?"
"Twenty five." She wondered why his questions seemed to be disoriented.
He held his chin in thought. "I see. You were not born during the Lunar Symetoch. It had already happened ten years earlier."
His sudden change of topic surprised her and she asked, "What's a Lunar Symetoch?'' And why did it sound familiar?
"It's the time when the moons from all the different realms combine. It only happens once in every two hundred years and whenever it happens, a demigod or demigoddess will be born in the human world—of human parents. It's usually a gift and symbol of peace between humans and deities." He explained.
"I've never heard of that." She blinked. But then again, it only happened once in two centuries. Who would bother to talk about it? It wasn't like demigods and demigoddesses lived in the human world. No one would believe it even if one were to mention it, because it would be a baseless claim with no evidence.
She thought back to his question and widened her eyes. "Wait. You think I'm a demigoddess?"
He nodded, deep in thought. "We set up fool proof security measures on this island against demons. If you were one, you would have already perished after staying here for too long."
She held Dairon's hand with her own slightly trembling one in relief. Luckily, she was not a demon. She didn't know much about them but they were shunned by everyone. She wouldn't desire that kind of life.
Dairon took her hand and placed it on his lap, caressing it soothingly while secretly enjoying the fact that this was the first time she was willing to hold his hand.
"But if you really are a demigoddess, you will be sad." He broke the news.
"Why?" She shifted her gaze between the two of them for confirmation, and her heart sank when Sinos nodded.
"He is right. Your age does not coincide with the last Lunar Symetoch, which means you were not born as a symbol of peace. The possibility of two deities being born within two centuries is zero so it could only mean one thing."
"What?" Her voice weakened, dreading what she knew she was going to hear.
He glanced at Dairon then back at her.. "The humans who brought you up are not your parents."
