She held it in her hand for a while, waiting for something to happen even while knowing that nothing was probably going to happen. Just when she was about to put it back, a red line formed on the blue crystal ball at the top, cutting it in half.

"Is that supposed to mean something?" She glanced at King Rian suspiciously. That didn't count as lighting up, right? It didn't look like it.

King Rian smiled at her with interest. "It means that your soul is intertwined with that of a water deity. In other words, your mate's element is water."

Nearby, a group of water gods cheered, which made her want to groan. Why did it have to be about that? To make it worse, Dairon gazed at her from a few steps away and gave an evil grin. "I told you" was written all over his face. When a water god talked about having a chance and wanting to seek her later, Dairon gave him a glare that made him shrink away in fear.

Of course, not everyone was happy about the revelation of her future love interest. The females looked like they wanted her dead. She could feel the glare from Marina even though the latter was a few meters away. She read the mind of one of the goddesses who just happened to be inwardly grumbling about a new demigoddess potentially stealing her Dairon away.

She desperately wanted to tell them that she had no interest in Dairon and that they should seek him instead of glaring at her.

King Rian nodded for her to reach for the next scepter and she did. She didn't get any reaction from the scepters of air, light, time and beauty. When the scepter of wisdom and knowledge blinked ever so slightly, King Rian explained that it was because she liked reading which automatically made her gain a lot of knowledge. After getting slight reactions from scepters that didn't correspond to her element, she couldn't help looking forward to what the rest would reveal. Getting no reactions from health, wealth, war and love, there were now two scepters left.

She was a little relieved as she reached for the dark brown one. She was yet to touch it when it floated right into her hand and lit up.

It tickled slightly. "Whoa. That was…" She was going to say that it was obvious when she paused in shock as she looked at the symbol on the staff. "I don't understand. It's not the scepter of fire."

"No. You're a demigoddess of earth!" Lolanthe excitedly cheered and clapped before King Rian could say a word.

Jasmine looked at King Rian in confusion. How was this possible?

The King seemed cheerful too. "Congratulations! The earth deities look excited to have you and my dear Lolanthe will finally have someone to play with."

They did look excited but she was confused. What the heck was happening?

"Go on, test out the last scepter." King Rian urged her. Confused, she glanced over at Dairon who nodded his encouragement. She reached for it and it lit up too!

When she heard the whispers and gasps from around her, she finally realized what was going on. It turned out, it was rare for anyone to have two elements—especially a demigoddess—but it was not impossible. No wonder they were giving her strange looks. She could feel them all. Admiration, genuine happiness, hatred and jealousy all cooped up in the same banquet hall. The humongous castle suddenly felt too small.

Under the mixed gazes of the crowd, King Rian took the two scepters and merged it into one scepter of earth and fire. He gave it a nudge in the air and it disappeared along with the others that were in a circle earlier.

"I sent it to the academy. You will only be allowed to touch it when you learn how to summon and use it. I will assign a god of wisdom and knowledge to tell you everything you need to know about your elements and your scepter." He explained and suddenly remembered. "You must have met Sinos, right?"

"I have." She was half nervous and half confused as she answered.

"Good. I'm sure he will gladly take this task."

King Rian seemed to be suddenly fond of her. He spoke as though they were the only two individuals in the banquet hall, which earned her more gazes of hatred and jealousy.

Perhaps having two elements was a bigger deal than she thought.

When Dairon said that she would stand out, he must have meant it literally. Only, she was standing out for different reasons than both of them expected.

First, it was her dressing code. Most of the females were in skimpy gowns that barely covered what needed to be covered and had their bodies adorned with jewelry. On the other hand, she was wearing the most modest gown which was different from the rest in every way and was even red. She overheard a demigoddess accuse her of attracting the males by pretending to be different.

What a good impression she had made of herself.

For the opening dance, her first dance partner was King Rian and after him, there was a queue of gods and demigods lined up to dance with her. Blaze only got the chance to dance with her by snatching her from Bardumond.

"I always knew you had some hidden power in you, daughter." He attempted to compliment her and she frowned.

"Did you drink too much, Lord Blaze?"

"I also think he drank too much." A female voice answered her—Goddess Lolanthe. She had a wide smile as she took her hands from her husband. "Let me dance with Jasmine. Go find some fire deities to dance with or whatever." She dismissed him.

"Isn't Jasmine one?" He looked amused but he chuckled gently, making Jasmine surprised. So there really was a goddess that could tame his arrogance.

"Just go." Lolanthe shooed him and he obediently left.

"You don't look happy about being an earth demigoddess?" Lolanthe sounded disappointed as she probed.

"I just didn't expect it." Jasmine frowned as soon as her words were out. She thought back to everything that happened since she met Dairon. The broken walls. The tumbling rocks at the swimming pool. Her failed attempt at getting a book from the Grand Library, which resulted in another broken wall—not to mention the pillar that shattered to smithereens when she leaned against it.

All this time, she had thought that it was her fire powers that caused the destruction. Had it been a different element all along—earth?

"You figured it out, didn't you?" Lolanthe spun her around gently with a smile when she saw the look of revelation on her face.

Jasmine nodded in confirmation. "It's still so new." She observed the goddess before her. "You look way more excited than I should be."

Lolanthe tittered. "It was about time we got some new, beautiful deities in our clan. The gods of earth are just so old and ugly." She looked like she was about to groan.

Jasmine looked over at the 'old and ugly' gods of earth and was rendered speechless. They would all become idols instantly if they were to go to the human world.

Lolanthe really seemed to loathe them. "It's no wonder I would marry Blaze. He is strong, powerful and handsome."

Just as she spoke, Blaze looked over and they exchanged a loving smile.

Why did this remind her of her parents? At the same time, it slightly altered her view of love. Faced with his wife, Blaze was no different from any other love-stricken god. Did love really change deities? Then Dairon…

Nope. She better not think about him. He was not in love with her and neither was she in love with him. He only forcibly claimed her to repay himself for saving her life.

She was more comfortable dancing with Lolanthe than she was with the males so she struck a conversation to keep it going. The latter even helped her make an excuse to leave the banquet hall for a moment.

"If it isn't Scarlet." She sneered when she saw the goddess smiling and winking at Bardumond nearby.

Jasmine looked over her shoulder and frowned slightly at the sight of Scarlet, then she turned back to Lolanthe. "You don't like her either?"

Lolanthe assessed her for a while as though deciding whether it would be appropriate to say it to Jasmine, then she shrugged and spilled it. "I would be doomed if I could tolerate the goddess who has tried to seduce my husband for three thousand years."

Jasmine cringed. "She's crazy. She would have long settled down if she moved on." Wasn't three thousand years enough to know that her feelings would never be reciprocated? She was either stupid or crazy. Or both.

Lolanthe laughed sarcastically. "Apparently, she is ready to move on. With my son." She sighed. "I don't care who my son ends up with, actually. But you should be more concerned about her presence around the deities you are close too."

"What do you mean?"

Lolanthe averted her gaze from Scarlet and Bardumond. "You have to be careful, Jasmine. She killed you once. She can do it again."
