"Is Dairon acquainted with Marina?" The words slipped off her tongue before she could stop them. Great. Now she sounded like a jealous woman.

The goddess in blue, who had just introduced herself as Terra, leaned in to whisper as though it was a secret. "She has been trying to get close to him for as long as I can remember. If you ask me, she has the biggest chance to be with him." Terra didn't look happy about that. It seemed like she had a crush on Dairon too.

Why was it making her uncomfortable that so many females liked him?

" Why would you say that?" She asked, trying to shake off her own thoughts.

"It strokes a male's ego if a female keeps pestering him for love. And let's be honest. Which male wouldn't eventually fall for Goddess Marina? She is so beautiful. Although she doesn't have any real achievements herself, her family is quite powerful. She can get anything she wants."

"Don't tell me she is related to King Rian." Jasmine joked and laughed, even though she dreaded it.

"Luckily, she isn't." Terra looked relieved too. "But the difference isn't too big either. She is Lord Dylan's granddaughter. Lord Dylan is one of the most powerful gods and he is ridiculously wealthy too."

Dylan… the name was quite familiar.

Jasmine's mouth gaped when she remembered who he was. "She is Lord Dylan's granddaughter?!"

"Yes! Isn't it unfair?" The goddesses sulked, but that was not why she was shocked.

If Marina was Dylan's granddaughter, didn't that make her Dairon's cousin? She was about to point it out when she remembered Bardumond's forlorn expression when he talked about having missed the opportunity to marry and have little gods and goddesses with his foster sister. It seemed like incest wasn't frowned upon in this realm. But then again, the population of deities was quite small. It was probably almost impossible to find two deities who shared zero blood ties.

The realization made her inwardly groan. Urgh.

She was still upset when Terra added, "I heard that Lord Dairon is Goddess Alaya's son. If it is true, then it can't ever get any worse. Since they are cousins, Lord Dylan can simply say the word and Lord Dairon and Goddess Marina will get married. Gah! I'm so upset."

'That makes two of us, Terra.'

"Let's stop talking about Dairon already. My heart is already in pieces." The goddess on her left, Nell, cut in. "We should host our own party. Jasmine, where do you live? We can pick you up to go out for fun."

She didn't want to lie. "On Dairon's Island. At least for now."

"Wait, what?" The goddesses were all shocked.

"Why would you live on an unmarried demigod's island?" Terra looked at her in shock.

"Uh.." She had thought that the deities didn't care about such rules. She was wrong, as it turned out. She was yet to find an excuse when Nell made a horrifying guess.

"Did he abduct you and force you to cohabit with him?"

'Bingo.' She thought. While that was true, they looked like they might kill Dairon if she said so.

"Can males force females to live with them?" She decided to gradually change the topic.

"It's a sin, but some powerful males resort to doing that when their love is not reciprocated. I didn't know Lord Dairon could do such a thing." Terra looked heartbroken.

"Just say the word, Jasmine. We can get help from Goddess Lolanthe. You are one of us, so she will definitely help you."

"Calm down, will you? I live there willingly." She finally said.

"Oh…"

The goddesses exchanged knowing looks and stopped talking about Dairon. Great. Now they thought she was his mistress. But for some reason, that look of misunderstanding was better than having to listen to them prattle on about how Marina has the highest chances of being with Dairon. Not that she minded him being with other goddesses.

Scratch that. Maybe she minded it a little.

A pair of arms wrapped around her waist from behind. "Did you miss me?"

She yelped and almost jumped out of her skin, turning to glare at Dairon. "You almost scared the shit out of me."

He smiled. "You were so lost in thought that I couldn't help it."

She looked around and realized that she really was lost in thought. She didn't even realize it when Terra, Nell and Alaina left. She must have made them think that they had offended her and thought that she was ignoring them. She would seek them later and make it up to them.

"Someone wants to meet you." He announced and led her back to the banquet hall.

She didn't expect that he was talking about his family. When they walked into the hall, they were the group that caught her eye with their blue hair that looked extraordinarily soft. Their skins looked fairer and smoother than everyone else's too, which must be thanks to the environment they lived in.

They were speaking to King Rian but when they noticed him walk in with Jasmine, they turned to look at them with inexplicable eyes.

Jasmine couldn't help scanning them. How did they feel seeing their grandson? Were they thrilled? Did they miss him? Thinking back to the memory she had of Alaya's past, her lips clenched into a line. This was probably going to be unpleasant.

"You must be Demigoddess Jasmine." Nila was the first to speak to her. From her smile, she looked like a kind goddess. It was hard to imagine that she was the very goddess who wanted to force her daughter to drink medicine that would cause an abortion. "It's nice to finally meet you. King Rian mentioned many good things about you."

"You flatter me. It's nice to meet you, Goddess Nila."

"You know me?" Nila was a little surprised since she had not introduced herself.

"I haven't met you before, obviously. I only saw you in paintings. Dairon is quite talented." She held the hand of their grandson who they were trying their best to pretend not to see.

With a frown of anger, Dylan cleared his throat and extended a hand in greeting. "Have you ever been to the water kingdoms? Marina could give you a tour. Marina is my granddaughter."

She smiled, knowing they were changing the topic. She was having fun messing with them. "I haven't, but the water kingdoms are beautiful. I saw the inside of The Enchanted Circle on a painting."

Before they could interrupt, she added with a smile, "I even saw one of Goddess Alaya. She is so beautiful that I would think beauty is her element if I didn't know that she is a water goddess. No wonder Dairon is so handsome."

Dylan was so displeased that he was on the verge of losing it. He glared at the demigod who had always been his sore spot.

Knowing that it would get out of hand if an argument broke out, Nila tried to lighten up the mood. "Actually, he is not the most handsome water deity. I know of many gods who are not only more handsome, but they are also more capable than him. When you come down for that tour, I will introduce you to one of them." She leaned in to whisper, pretending to keep it off Dairon's ears but still making it loud enough for him to hear. "You don't want to marry a cursed demigod, do you? He is a jinx. He is the reason why his mother was rejected by the clan."

This was the first time she had seen a grandmother slander her own grandson.

She felt bad for what she had just said. She had taken it too far, which is why Nila had resorted to this.

The damage was done. She grasped Dairon's hand in comfort but didn't want to let it slide without vexing them. "I don't think so, Goddess Nila. I think it's your pride that made you banish your daughter. You are only looking for someone to blame.

You know deep down that you didn't pay enough attention to your daughter, which made her start sneaking off to the human realm. You hate that a human managed to lure her by merely spending a little time with her, which was exactly what she craved. Yet on the outside, you want to swear that it was Goddess Alaya's fault." She had not cared whether or not anyone paid attention. She leaned in to add, "Doesn't it haunt you?"

It was official. The water deities would never like her. Not that she cared.

Dairon found her amusing as they walked down the hallway. "Why did you do that?"

"They pissed me off." She glared in their direction then back at him. "Don't you know how to stand up for yourself when being bullied?"

"They usually ignore me, which is for the best. If they kept me close to them, it would ruin my grand plan."

Her eyes squinted. "Dairon, revenge doesn't truly benefit anyone."

She felt a sharp gaze on her back while they spoke. He stopped speaking too, which confirmed that he felt it too. She listened carefully and aside from his and her footsteps, there was another pair that moved quietly, almost like a cat.

Someone was following them.
