She felt nervous when the realization sank in. It couldn't be Scarlet, right? But that would not make much sense. She was not a threat to Scarlet in terms of physical strength—they didn't need to spar for her to know that. Logically, Scarlet could be direct if she wanted to attack her. But she couldn't think of anyone who would want to be sneaky around her.

She turned to Dairon and wondered whether the stalker was here for him. She couldn't read his mind and she couldn't risk letting him read hers, either, so she gave a nervous smile and hoped he would have a clue of what to do.

"You should find Sinos to discuss and come up with a schedule." He continued speaking naturally.

It was either because the stalker was no threat or he was trying to make them believe that they had not been discovered. The latter felt more plausible so she played along.

"You are right. I didn't see him tonight."

"He is probably flirting with a pretty goddess somewhere or using his brains to give some poor gods a run for their jewels." He sounded amused.

"He plays brain games, like riddles and mazes?" Her brow quivered.

"And wins every time. No one has ever defeated him." He hated to admit that he had even lost to Sinos a few times.

She was amused listening to how his opponents never gave up despite losing uncountable times.

"I would understand it if goddesses kept trying to defeat him because they would spend time with a handsome god while at it… but why would the gods not give up?"

She listened to the footsteps. Whoever it was had slowed down, and it was probably because they slowed down too. How prudent. Cornering the stalker would require more than just leading them by the nose.

Dairon took note of the change in the stalker's heartbeat but continued speaking as though he didn't notice a thing. "Because goddesses won't shut up about his looks and how wise he is. Every god and demigod wants to be better than him."

"What about you?" She asked absentmindedly.

"What about me?" He pretended not to understand.

"Do you want to be better than Sinos?" She asked more directly. She was not just trying to buy time, she really wanted to know. In actual sense, what she wanted to know most was whether Dairon would take pleasure in proving to the love-struck goddesses that Sinos was not the smartest.

His answer came within seconds. "There is nothing for me to compete against him." He leaned in before she could react. "Unless he tries to charm you, of course."

Her heart must have skipped a beat when he suddenly leaned in. She could swear that he was going to kiss her.

She suddenly thought to the stalker behind them and turned sharply. "I'll go find him. See you later."

She walked off, not too fast so she would see who was trying to sneak up on them. Whoever it was was too careful; they hid behind a pillar as soon as Jasmine turned. Not wanting to alarm them, she went her way after giving Dairon an eye to let him know where the stalker was.

Soon after Jasmine left, he continued strolling on his own and worked out the best timing to disappear in his spot before suddenly appearing behind his stalker.

Startled, she knocked over a vase in the hallway.

"So it's you." Dairon's brows knitted when he took a clear look at the goddess's face. She was just as he remembered her. Time had done nothing to change her appearance even though it had been centuries since he last saw her physically, and she still had that forlorn gaze when their eyes met.

"Did you follow me just to stare at me, Goddess Alaya?" He probed when she remained silent.

"Dairon," She reached her hands out to touch his face.

He evaded her touch. "Why are you following me?"

Alaya was disappointed but she couldn't blame him. Technically, this was the first time she was officially meeting her son. The first time he saw her, he was a young boy and didn't know who she was. All the other times, she had been sneaking to his side to secretly comfort him when he needed it. She had nearly forgotten that he would not easily develop affection for her.

She clenched her fists to stop herself from hugging him. "I wanted to see you. I was not invited to the banquet so I have to be sneaky. Please don't tell anyone that I was here."

"Don't worry. I will not rat you out." She was about to sigh in relief when he added, "I have nothing to do with you. Please go back to… wherever you crawled out from."

The words shot into her heart like daggers. She took a careful step forward. "Son, I know I don't deserve your forgiveness for leaving you but…"

"Since you know that you are not deserving of my forgiveness, why do you still bother yourself?" He stared down at her coldly.

"Son..." She reached her hand out, but he turned to leave.

Jasmine was waiting outside the hall when he caught up to her.

"Did you find out who the stalker is? Should I be worried?"

"No." He sucked in a breath.

Based on his attitude, she made a guess. There was only one goddess who would sneak around to see Dairon. She even felt a sense of déjà vu.

"I didn't expect that the stalker would be Goddess Alaya. Phew. I thought it was Scarlet." She didn't ask about the details knowing that he did not want to talk about his mother.

"Do you know what grudges Scarlet has against you?" He asked.

"Some insane struggle for power." She tiredly shrugged.

"I'll go look for Sinos." They had used him as an excuse but she did have to look for him now that she thought about it.

"You can just summon him." He suggested. "You may not know where to find him in this huge castle."

He had a point. "How should I summon him?"

"The way you summoned Blaze before." He smiled.

She chuckled, recalling how she basically yelled at him. "I'm not sure I want to get used to treating everyone around me that way."

"Just kidding. Call his name." He instructed.

"Am I not supposed to chant some mantra or something?" She frowned, thinking about the insanely difficult to pronounce words that made her infuriated when Bardumond tried to teach her how to summon Blaze before.

"That's just to tell them why you are summoning them. If it's a deity close to you, calling their name will do." He explained, and she did.

Sinos appeared mid air and did a turn before he landed on his butt.

He redeemed himself by flashing a sweet smile as he steadied up.

"Beautiful Jasmine, you finally summoned me. My day couldn't get any better."

"You have wings? I didn't know you did." Jasmine took note of the large emerald wings on his back. They looked shiny and beautiful as he gently flapped them.

"I don't use them often since I prefer teleporting to wherever I go." He said with his nose in his air, then realized that neither of them believed his crap. "Fine, I'll admit it. I got them tonight. King Rian says it's because I became the trainer of a goddess of earth and fire, you. I'm still learning to use them."

"Me?" She pointed at herself in shock. What did this have to do with her?

He flapped his new wings a few more times, admiring them before he coughed at his own childishness. "Deities get their wings at different points in their lives and usually, it is triggered by a specific event."

"That's exciting." She gushed.

"Yeah, I wouldn't say that." He grumbled. "It's not general like when you get to a certain age and whatnot. It's specific and random if you ask me. How the hell was I to know that I should take in a demigoddess with two elements to bring them out? If I knew, I would have done so hundreds of years ago!" He sulked. "Sometimes, the event does not happen so the deity does not get their wings. If King Rian did not assign you to me, I would still be what I believed I was—a wingless god."

"I still think it sounds cool." She gushed. The thrill of looking forward to it yet not knowing what had to be done was all the more exciting. "I wonder what will bring mine out in this incarnation."

Dairon and Sinos smiled and exchanged a glance behind her back. They hated to piss on her parade but once wings were destroyed or lost, getting them back was like finding a needle in the meadows.
