This had to be a freaking joke. Scratch that. It had to be a dream. A nightmare—the kind that had one waking up heaving, drenched in cold sweat and screaming at the top of their lungs. What the fuck was Blaze doing here? Or rather, why the fuck did she end up here, of all places?

She stared at the god who was facing away from her and had his wings flapping about even though he was not moving. Her gaze was fixated on him as though she was waiting to wake up, then he would disappear and she would heave a sigh of relief finding that it was a dream.

But none of that happened, of course. With the kind of shitty luck she'd been riding on lately, it was already a surprise that she didn't end up in front of King Rian.

"Can I maybe just die?" She let out a deep breath when he turned.

"It's nice to see you too, daughter." He flashed a smile she assumed must be fake. There was no way he could manage to give a real smile. Was this some kind of prank he'd set up?

He took a seat behind the desk and only now did she realize that she had teleported to his study.

He must have been reading her mind because he waved a hand in the air in triumph. "After the last time you sought Narilia's help to escape, I came up with a measure against it. That portal will lead you to wherever I am no matter where you try to go." He seemed pleased with himself.

"What portal?" She feigned ignorance.

"The one you opened to try and leave. You know, the one that looks like a golden door? Were you in such a hurry that you sped through whatever exit you saw?" He asked in amusement.

Her jaw slacked. There was no golden door. At least none that she knew of. She'd gone through a black metallic…. Her thoughts trailed off as she remembered the color of the door she'd walked through in her past life. It was golden.

It turned out, there was a portal that Blaze didn't know of. She would rejoice if it hadn't led her here. But she quickly realized that it didn't change a thing. If there were two doors and he was oblivious to one of them, she could later find a way to make it function in her favor. Who knows? She might need it for emergency situations.

She had been disgruntled about being here a moment ago but now she understood Scarlet's words. The doors sealed by Tolvethor were said to lead one where they needed to be. She couldn't argue with that. If she ended up somewhere else, she would never have found out this valuable information.

Her expression didn't change as she reacted the exact way she was about to before finding out the shocking news. "Can I maybe just kill you and be done with all this?"

He let out a hearty laugh. "Of course. If you are ready to face the wrath of an infuriated earth goddess, you can go ahead and try."

She groaned.

"Don't be so upset, dear. We can be friends. You know what they say about fathers. They are their daughters' best friends." He made an insane attempt at coaxing her.

She would have jumped into Harry's arms and kissed his cheek. But looking at Blaze? All she felt was spite. "Your affection is misplaced, Lord Blaze. I am not Catalyah."

His brows flared. The friendliness in his eyes faded and was replaced with a dark glint. She would have sworn that he was going to kill her. Only, he didn't. He sighed and stood from his desk.

"Narilia is a demoness. I remember telling you that and yet, you decided to go against the rules by summoning her." He faced her with a stern glare. "Do you want to settle this with me or would you rather face King Rian?"

She shrugged. "I don't think I have much choice here, do I? If I decide to settle it with you, you will make it excruciating. But if I choose King Rian, you will probably have already rattled out some things to make sure he doesn't let me off easily either."

"You're a little smart." He coughed. "I take that as you choosing to settle it with me."

She grunted. "What's my punishment?"

She watched him pace the study. Great. It was definitely going to be some impossible task. Except, what he said was nothing like she had expected.

"First off, be fair to me. Stop assuming that I'm a bad father based on the punishments I give you for things you do wrong." He sounded almost sad and she found it amusing.

"I don't know of a father who will make his daughter float in the sea all night in the name of punishment." She rolled her eyes.

"One who is certain that it will teach his daughter a lesson without actually hurting her." He countered, making her brows furrow. Sure, it didn't hurt her.

Seeing that she had nothing else to say, he gave the second part of the punishment. "Call me father every time you see me from now on."

"Call you…You're insane!" Her voice pitched.

"I see." He shrugged. "See you in King Rian's chambers then."

When she walked out, he let out a breath. The door opened a few minutes later and Lolanthe walked in. He forced a smile. "Is your meeting over?"

She nodded and walked over to him. "How did things go with Jas?"

"She would rather get her punishment from King Rian than call me father."

She let out a sigh and hugged him. "You're obsessed with her, Blazey. She is not Catalyah. Just because she has earth as her element doesn't make her our daughter."

"I know." He sighed. "I just missed the word, I guess." His mind uncontrollably filled with happy giggles as he recalled various scenes of his daughters buzzing around him and calling him "papa". Catalyah would climb on his back when she was learning to use her wings, because she was scared to fly and end up falling. Narilia would sit at his feet and laugh at her sister who still didn't know how to fly even though her younger sister already did. At the end of every day, they would each cling to one of his arms and drag him to the library where their mother would be reading a book, then they would use their adorable eyes to beg her to read the three of them a story before going to bed.

"My partner has been kidnapped and you are telling me to calm down?!" Dairon roared at King Rian.

"Mind your tone!" He warned. Dairon had come barging in through the doors, accusing Blaze of kidnapping Jasmine. His response was that he didn't believe a troublemaker like Jasmine could be kidnapped and that a father could not possibly kidnap his own daughter.

Dairon narrowed his eyes. "I see. You are on his side on this."

"I'm not taking sides here." King Rian denied the claim. "You need to have evidence before you can accuse anyone."

"Why don't we go to his castle? If Jasmine is not there, I will accept whatever punishment you set." He gritted his teeth, hating that he couldn't go to Blaze's castle on his own. Eight hundred years ago, he had raided the place and wrecked havoc, making them set up measures against his intrusion. They would be alerted if he so much as neared the place.

King Rian didn't approve of his idea. "For the last time, a father cannot kidnap his daughter."

Screw that paternal crap! Adoption only happened if both parties were willing and the last thing Jasmine had ever wanted was to be that firefly's daughter. He may have adopted her in her previous life but things were different now. Besides, Jasmine had the right to choose.

He swallowed down the words at the tip of his tongue. There had to be a reason why King Rian wasn't being compliant. He probably knew that Blaze had forcefully caged Jasmine in his castle and for some reason, he was doing nothing about it. He even seemed to support Blaze's actions. And that reason was most likely related to him.

His lips twitched. If that was how they wanted it to be, they shouldn't blame him if things spiralled out of control.

Leaving Blaze's study, Jasmine was so upset that she could set someone on fire if they so much as teased her. The last thing she wanted was to be confined for being a danger to other deities because her anger flared up, so she decided to calm herself a little. She headed for the library, certain that she would get a book she would like. Halfway down the hallway, she remembered the book that Bardumond gave her. She had walked around carrying it and eventually left it in Catalyah's room. She took a detour for the room and entered, locking the door behind her. She grabbed the book and lay on the bed before opening it.
