Jasmine watched her leg bleed and gritted her teeth. It stung but it was enough for her to cave. She wanted Dairon to come. She needed him to come. She would never have admitted it with a knife on her throat before but the hope in her eyes couldn't be concealed as she counted down the minutes it would take for his arrival.

Bardumond didn't make a move to try and treat her wound, although watching her bleed out and not do anything about it was the hardest thing he had ever had to do.

She found a topic to talk about to keep her mind off the stinging sensation. "Why would Dairon give me his soul? We didn't even know each other." She looked up at Bardumond and waited for his answer.

She thought he would say that she had to ask Dairon or something along the lines. Instead, he smiled. "Because he wanted to."

"Thanks for the elaborate explanation." She smirked sarcastically.

He chuckled and picked up a bottle of jameela syrup that he had prepared the day before. "That's all there is to it, really. He did it for his own selfish reasons and seeing as you ended up on his island, the reason is obvious." He passed the syrup to her. "After the cut stops bleeding, apply a few drops around the wound once a day. The scar should completely disappear within three days."

"Thank you." She nursed the small bottle in her hand. She was still shocked. What were the odds of anyone giving half of their soul to someone they just met? Simply because he felt she was his mate? It was insane when she thought about it. It turned out mates meant so much in the realm of immortals.

"Are there any effects of what he did?'' She asked Bardumond who was starting to look anxious.

He sat down and poured himself water in the extra glass before drinking all of it in a few swigs. "There are consequences, yes."

Once again, he didn't explain the consequences. Knowing that it was probably better if Dairon were to be the one telling her that, she yawned sleepily. She must have been anxious earlier and now that her hope of getting out of here had been rekindled, she couldn't wait to curl into bed.

Bardumond couldn't watch her anymore. "Go to sleep and I'll take care of that. I'm pretty sure that was enough to alert the hero." He made fun of her as he took her leg to clean and bandage her wound. She slept through it so he placed a pillow on the couch and let her rest her head on it, then covered her with a fluffy blanket.

….

An ear-shattering roar of thunder woke her from her slumber. Startled, she slid off the couch and almost tripped on the blanket. Bardumond was not in the room. The closed curtains were too thick to let anything in so she rushed over and drew a small gap in them, just enough to look outside. Her eyes widened at what must be part of a nightmare. It had to be, because she had been asleep for what felt like a few minutes. How could the situation turn into this mess in such a short time?

Flashes of lightning assaulted the sky as if with a vengeance. There was almost no interval between them and the thunder sounded like a continuous ramble. It was raining heavier than she had ever thought possible. The flood surrounding the castle and looking like it wanted to swallow it whole made it look like the entire castle was sinking into the sea. Her heart picked up its pace in horror.

The door barged open and Bardumond rushed in just as she ran to the door. "Let's go, quick." He urged her and grabbed her hand when she didn't move.

"What's going on?" She asked as he rushed them down the corridor.

"A battle that I need you to stop from getting out of control." He spoke.

"What?" She didn't immediately catch up.

"Dairon is here and…" He didn't need to explain. They reached the entrance just as Blaze was struck down by what looked like a flash of blinding light.

In front of him was Dairon, who looked ready to murder. His blue eyes were red in rage as he held his sword against the neck of Blaze who was in a sorry state after being struck by lightning.

"Let her go!" He roared.

Blaze planted his hands on the rocks buried in the flood and used them as support to stand and knock Dairon's sword out of his hand, pushing him away at the same time as the sword melted. "Quit it, will you?"

"Let her go!" Even with his sword gone and melted, he charged at Blaze and grabbed his neck with both hands. The impact had them both falling into the flooding water in a ridiculous heap. The fierce fist exchange in the muddy water was the prelude to Dairon sending another bolt of lightning to strike Blaze.

"Do you get off on destroying lives?" Blaze roared back at him.

"This is much worse than I thought." Bardumond cursed under his breath when they reached the door. "Don't come out."

She nodded even though she had no intention of staying inside the castle while an insane battle raged outside and had everything to do with her. She intended to rush over and try to stop it but seeing the two deities entangled in a fight, she stopped at the door.

Bardumond rushed into the heavy rain but stopped dead in his tracks when he realized that something was wrong. Where was Lolanthe?

It didn't make any sense that she was not here. She was definitely in the castle a moment ago and she hated war. She would have tried her best to stop it from happening. She didn't even leave the castle, which could only mean that she was not here.

"Dairon!" He called through the rain as he rushed close enough to them. It took a while for the demigod to glance at him and he grabbed the chance. "Let him go. And tell me where my mother is. I will hand Jasmine over to you."

It felt weird making that kind of deal even though he was not really selling off his sister.

"What did you do to Lolanthe?!" Blaze's fist connected with Dairon's face out of the blue. He had been on the verge of passing out but regained his strength when he heard the mention of his wife.

Dairon didn't bother to dodge his attack. The damned firefly was much weaker under so much water and couldn't use his fire powers to strike. When he grabbed Dairon's neck, the latter chuckled evilly.

"Go on. Piss me off, then you will never know where your wife is."

Blaze let go of his neck in frustration.

Dairon laughed like a maniac. "It took you long enough but don't worry. You will soon know how it feels to know that your partner is in the hands of your enemy."

"I'll kill you!" Blaze threatened but his whole body was trembling in pain.

"Stop! Please." Jasmine's voice was a shaky mess when she finally plucked the courage to speak up before the two got into another fight.

Dairon's brows knitted when he heard her voice. He turned to the direction of her voice. He couldn't see her clearly through the heavy rain but he was certain that it was her. His Jasmine was walking towards him and looked anxious.

The realization that she was walking in the rain and making her way through a flood jolted him out of his thoughts. He made the rain stop and met her halfway. He was not planning to get rid of the flood—that was his gift of thanks to Blaze. He hugged Jasmine and lifted her into his arms. She shrank in fear.

The Dairon she had seen a moment ago was nothing like the one he had been since she met him. A moment ago, he was like an enraged monster who killed without thinking through it. She had not missed the several heads or limbs peeking in through the flood—bodies of guards that had faced his anger.

He didn't notice the fear in her eyes, his having caught sight of the bandage on her leg. He zoomed in on the soaked bandage and turned to glare at Blaze. The latter was staggering into the castle with the help of his son and Dairon looked like he was ready to strike him again.

"It wasn't him!" She quickly explained when she noticed his eyes start to flare. Her heart raced as she bit her lip. "I accidentally dropped a glass and…"

His gaze made her shut her mouth. She knew that he didn't mean to scare her and definitely wouldn't hurt her but she couldn't help it. His eyes right now were scarier than the lightning that had been flashing in a flurry a moment ago.
