With Jasmine in his arms, Dairon shot a last glare at Blaze. He didn't need to say any words and he had caught sight of Jasmine's eyes that were masked in fear. Not wanting to scare her anymore, he kissed her forehead. "Let's go home."

Home.

She was shocked by the kind of feeling that the word evoked in her. In the past, the only place she thought of as her home was Efinchil, in her parents' house. But when Dairon said it, she automatically pictured his mansion. She wanted to convince herself that she only thought of the place because she knew that was where Dairon meant but her mind called her out for bullshit.

"Wait. I forgot something." She spoke up before he could teleport them away.

He didn't want to let her go but knew that she would insist so he carried her to the top of the stairs that led to the main entrance of the castle. He whispered to let her know that the flood level would rise and seep into the castle soon so she should be quick. She nodded and disappeared into the castle, returning a few minutes later with the syrup that Bardumond had given her, which she had forgotten in his room. She also had two books in her other hand. One of them was the one she had read several hours ago whose content she had forgotten as soon as Bardumond asked. She had not given up on knowing its contents.

He glanced at her as she ran back to the entrance and frowned in disapproval. "Your leg is still injured." He pointed at the wet bandage that had slipped down to expose the cut.

"It doesn't hurt." She caught her breath as she held out a hand to hold his. Instead of taking it, he leaned slightly and held her waist and behind her knees, carrying her in his arms instead.

"I'll bandage that up." Bardumond spoke, having returned after helping Blaze to his room.

Dairon pulled away before Bardumond could touch Jasmine's leg. "I can take care of my mate."

He was still bordering on angry so she didn't say anything unnecessary and wrapped her arms around his neck. Perhaps she was imagining it but she thought his face softened when she held his neck.

"Remember this path in case you end up here again." He said as he walked away from the castle. He would never let Blaze imprison her again but it didn't hurt to be cautious. When she nodded, he slowed down so she would remember the path. When they reached a humongous tree, he tapped it and looked down at her to make sure she remembered it. "This is not a tree. It's a portal that will lead you to my island. Don't worry, no one else knows it exists. In case that dirt bag locks your powers so you cannot teleport, you just have to call this little guy and he will open the portal for you."

"What little guy?"

As soon as she asked, a small colorful bird landed on Dairon's shoulder and pecked at her fingers that were wrapped around his neck. She almost lost her balance when she suddenly let go.

"Knock it off!" He warned the bird and it flew to a branch. As an added layer of security, he instructed the bird to let her in if it ever saw her on the island.

"I didn't realize you speak to birds too. Last I checked, you only communicated with water animals." She chuckled as they made through the portal and as he said, they were now on his island.

He sped up and only let her down onto a chair when they arrived at the mansion. He dried her hair before finally answering her. "That's my pet. His name is Cat."

She pressed her lips together to drown a laugh. Who names a bird 'Cat'?

He left the room and returned with a bandage and an assortment of medicine, then went down on his knees to clean and dress the wound on her leg.

"Don't hurt yourself next time. You just have to call me." He looked at her to make sure she understood the warning.

"I…" She was tongue-tied, not having expected him to figure out that the cut was not an accident. She nodded in the end. Finishing up, he left the room with the medicines and returned to sit beside her.

She observed the side of his face. He no longer looked angry. Although she was still a little frightened, she knew that he wouldn't hurt her. She didn't know when she started trusting him so much either.

"Did you miss me? Is that why you can't keep your eyes off me?" He flirted.

Actually, she did. But she shook her head with a face that was starting to redden. He pecked her face and chuckled when she averted her gaze.

"Why are you still so shy?" He asked, tucking a lock of her hair behind her ear and cupping her face.

"I'm not shy." She shook her head.

"Does that mean you are embarrassed because you have a crush on me?" He pushed, enjoying watching her face as her mouth dropped open before she blurted a string of excuses that her own ears couldn't believe.

She let out a small sigh when he stopped messing with her. "What did you do to Goddess Lolanthe?" She asked.

His eyes narrowed before he spat one word. "Nothing."

She breathed a sigh of relief even though she knew that he would never hurt another goddess to get back at Blaze for kidnapping her. That would only intensify a disagreement that didn't necessarily have to exist.

"Since I'm back, can you let her go?" She carefully asked and watched as his expression changed from calm from upset. She knew what he was going to say but was still saddened when he said it anyway.

"No."

She cupped his face before he could leave as she knew he would, in an attempt to avoid the topic. He was surprised so she used the chance. "Lord Blaze may be hurt now but as soon as he recovers, he will come here and pick a fight with you if you don't let her go. He might involve other deities too… like King Rian."

He held her small hand that was still cold. "She should have said no to her husband instead of agreeing to trick you into that castle to be held captive."

"You are right. But she didn't know what he was planning either. She was shocked too." She insisted. It was not because she trusted Lolanthe. She didn't trust anyone after what had just happened, but she didn't want the feud to intensify.

He took one glance at her and knew that she was lying. Nonetheless, he couldn't resist her pleading eyes. He pressed his pointer and middle fingers between his brows helplessly. "What will I do with you?"

She broke into a relieved smile and wrapped her arms around his neck. "You are so cute when you are helpless."

"Let's get you something to eat." He stood. Even though she insisted that she was alright, he still carried her to the dining room and would have fed her if she didn't lie about being uncomfortable with it. It was just a small cut on the leg! She was alright! If only she could make him understand that.

He seriously served her the foods he said were good in speeding up recovery and forbade her from having any wine. He also made sure she had cleared her plate before he was convinced that she was well nourished.

When she said that she would skip dessert because she was already full, he frowned at her. She laughed and rubbed her belly. "It's just a small cut. It's not like I'm pregnant or anything."

Her hands flew to her mouth. Was that the best she could say? Couldn't she come up with something else? Great. Now he was eyeing her like he was considering knocking her up.

"What I mean is, I'm really full and since you chose all the best and yummiest dishes, I have no space left for a drop of anything else."

He nodded, accepting her explanation.

She breathed a sigh of relief when she was let off. "I'll go to my room, then. I have two books to read."

"Read them tomorrow. Get to sleep before the moon is overhead." He instructed.

"I'll just read a little and sleep early." She promised, though she didn't think that would be possible. She usually got engrossed in a book as soon as she opened it and her mind wouldn't settle until she had finished it. Then she would pick another one no matter what time she finished reading the last. When she was a teenager, she got into a fight with Sophie most of the time because she couldn't get her head out of books for long enough to clean her room.

She had just taken a few steps when she heard his voice behind her. "I'll check on you in three hours. If you are not asleep, you will sleep beside me in my bed."
