Chapter 94: Late Night Snack

A few minutes later, in Clarepar sea.

"Are you in the mood for a late-night snack?" He asked a shark.

The shark expressed its disdain seeing the so-called snack that Dairon had brought.

He rubbed a palm along its body teasingly. "I know. Ugly goddesses are not on your menu most of the time. Treat it as switching things up for a while."

When he teleported back to his mansion, he kept away the goods he had brought back before going to his room. Jasmine was sitting on the edge of the bed and looked frightened.

He had managed to trick her into spending the night with him by compelling her to wake up then reminding her of the punishment he had set in place if she was still awake in three hours. She had merely given him an odd look before obediently following him to his room. It would have been a perfect night if he didn't need to leave soon after she fell asleep.

He sat beside her on the edge of the bed and cupped her face. "Why are you awake, flower? What's wrong?"

"Where did you go?" She held his arms.

"I had to catch some fresh air." He distorted the truth before asking, "What happened to you? You look scared."

"I had a nightmare." She searched his eyes.

"About what?" He had a bad feeling.

"You were the king of the underworld. You ripped out the soul of a goddess and forced her into the underworld even though she was not dead."

"What?" His brows scrunched.

"You looked multiple times scarier than you did when you attacked Lord Blaze." She hugged his arms, relieved that it was just a dream and he was back. "I know it sounds crazy."

That was not why he was shocked. He was puzzled that while her dream was distorted in all sorts of ways, it was so close to reality.

"I'm not going to turn into the king of the underworld." He patted her even though he knew that she was not actually scared about it. "Go back to sleep."

"Mmh. Go to sleep too." She nuzzled against his chest with no intention to move. He would never say no to a hug from her so he enjoyed her clinginess. He held her against him and patted her until she fell asleep, before he put her to sleep with his arms wrapped around her.

The next morning, Jasmine was surprised at how much she had slept. She had not slept so peacefully in a while. She wondered whether it had something to do with her being in Dairon's arms. It was possible, considering how comfortable his embrace was.

What crap was she thinking? She slapped her face awake before dashing to her room to freshen up. He was reading a letter in the living room when she went downstairs. He looked up at her with a smile when he saw her.

"You're awake. Breakfast is ready. I brought an assortment of nuts from the human realm. I'm sure you will love them."

She yawned at the mention of nuts. She has missed them, especially cashew nuts. They went to the dining room and as soon as the food was served, she dug into the bowl of cashew nuts and popped them into her mouth one at a time.

She felt his gaze on her and looked up to see him smiling.

"They are tasty! Do you want to have a taste?" She excitedly offered a nut dangling between her thumb and forefinger. She froze when she realized what she had just offered.

She was used to feeding Dahlia pieces of snacks once in a while and had offered to feed him in the heat of the moment. Her face heated as she considered serving some onto his plate instead. She was just about to eat the nut between her fingers when he grabbed her hand and redirected it to his mouth.

It was only when she felt his tongue lick slightly against her fingers that she realized what had just happened.

Her face reddened as she wolfed down her breakfast to get away from him as soon as she could.

"I'm going to the academy." She announced as soon as she was done.

"I'll take you there." He stated matter-of-factly and she almost couldn't find a way to say no to him.

She bit her bottom lip as she looked for a reason. "Don't you need to meet King Rian?" She asked.

He frowned in disapproval at her attempts to dismiss him. "Blaze might have someone follow or kidnap you. You will accompany me to meet King Rian, then we can both go to the academy later."

"But I will be late." She looked at him and added in a small voice, "I can take care of myself."

"Of course you can." He stood and closed in on her, running a finger down the side of her face teasingly as he looked into her eyes. "I trust you a lot since you were able to protect yourself the last time."

His sarcasm made her lips twitch. That was an accident! She didn't know that she was being kidnapped or she would have fought back.

"Sinos will not be there." He added and his lips brushed against hers ever so slightly.

"Why not?" She asked even though she didn't want to. She closed her eyes and her lips involuntarily parted for what was definitely more interesting than talking about Sinos.

Alas, the kiss she thought was about to land on her lips did not happen. Why did she feel disappointed?

Oblivious to what he had just done, he pulled away.

"His second hearing is being held today."

"Whose…" It took a while for her mind to register that he was talking about Sinos. He had been accused of abusing a goddess and his first hearing had been the previous day.

Her face scrunched into a frown. "Is that even necessary? He didn't do anything wrong. I'm sure of it. Sinos is not that kind of god."

His brows furrowed into a frown as he brushed a hand down his face. "I am sure of that too. Someone is getting rid of the people around you, starting with those who are not very close to you so you don't realize it until it is too late."

She exchanged glances with him. It had not made sense why anyone would accuse Sinos of a crime that could result in him being banished to the underworld. Now that he mentioned it, she was certain that he was right. "That would be Scarlet, right?"

"Good guess." He chuckled. Meeting her expression that was a mixture of panic and hate, he held his arms out. "I know. Come here." He pulled her into his embrace and petted her back.

About half an hour later, they teleported to the entrance of King Rian's castle. They had to wait because he had guests. When they were finally let into his study, he looked at Jasmine in disapproval before his gaze fell on Dairon.

"Why did you bring her with you?" He asked sharply, not trying to hide his displeasure from seeing her.

He held her hand protectively. "Because she is my partner. I would tell her what we discuss anyway so I thought it might save some time if she were to directly hear what you have to say to me."

"Don't act smart with me." King Rian looked impatient.

Jasmine was about to say that she could wait outside but Dairon's hand tightened around hers. The message was clear. He didn't want her to go anywhere. She could only make her presence inconspicuous as Dairon and King Rian discussed.

"What do I have to do?" Dairon asked. The previous day, King Rian had already informed him that he would be punished for killing the innocent guards who had nothing to do with his feud with Blaze. Needless to say, he would be punished for attacking a god too.

"Apologize to Blaze, for starters." King Rian commanded.

Dairon looked displeased. "If he is going to apologize for taking my partner captive, I will reluctantly comply."

"Why are you deliberately being difficult?" King Rian asked and immediately glanced at Jasmine.

Dairon pulled her closer to him. "I'm not the one who kidnapped a demigoddess. By the way, don't make it sound like he is the victim when he is merely a culprit who suffered for his own choices."

King Rian looked like he had been challenged. If any other deity challenged him half as much as Dairon did, they would be dead. But he didn't want to go to extremes with Dairon. Especially not when he had Jasmine on his side.

He blew out a breath. "Blaze will pay for his actions too but I'm not discussing that with you."

He nodded in satisfaction. "I see. I will accept punishment for hurting innocent guards. However, don't expect me to think of rescuing a hostage as a mistake I need to take punishment for."
