My third birthday had finally passed just a week ago. I was still not good with strangers and parties, but I managed somehow. I was finally being allowed outside of the castle walls and into the city below. It wasn’t my first time going outside. I would often be led by my mother or Yumi to the castle’s garden or a large courtyard where I would watch the knights train. The knights would always increase their efforts once they noticed I was watching them.

I gripped my mother and fathers hands as we exited a towering gate. Guards were at attention, saluting us as we made our way to the royal carriage that was parked out front. Yumi followed further behind. The red carriage was adorned with the Arris royal family crest. The black shield with a silver cluster of stars inlaid inside of it rested on the center of the door, and as we approached Roland opened the door in a smooth practiced motion.

“Ei!” My mother scooped me up from behind after releasing my hand causing me to squeal. After entering the carriage she sat me on her lap and began stroking my hair. I turned my head back to look into her eyes. “Fufufu, are you excited?” She looked down at my legs which were happily swinging.

I can’t lie, I was super excited. I would finally be able to see what the city was like. I had seen it from the window in my room, but nothing would compare to actually experiencing it. I heard my father let out a grunt, and when I looked over to him he was wearing a face full of envy. “No, fair! Why do you always get to hold her? Come don’t you want to sit in papa’s lap?” He asked me with pleading eyes.

I looked back to my mother, and she shrugged. “Do you want to sit in your fathers lap?” I grinned. As I looked over to my miserable father, I exaggeratingly put my hand to my chin in a thinking pose. “Hmm, I don’t know…”

“You little…” He gave me no time to react as he pulled me from my mother and began attacking me with tickles. “Hehehe, Stop! D-d-dad that tickles!” I didn’t even notice when the carriage started moving, but soon it came to a stop as Roland opened the door. The tickle attack continued all the way until we stopped, and I was trying to catch my breath. My father picked me up and placed me on his shoulders as I took in the sights around me.

The first thing I noticed were the people. It was a massive mix of different races. There were fluffy people, pointy eared people, regular people, and tiny people with beards. We were in a massive square surrounded by stalls and buildings. Some of the buildings were more advanced than you would expect from medieval culture. Some had glass windows giving you a glimpse inside. There was even a metal building with a glass door that would slide open as someone approached it. I wondered if it was some type of magic allowing that. The clash of cultures was real. In one stall I could see a cat lady was selling some type of ramen, and in another stall there was a human selling sub sandwiches. So many scents wafted into my nose as my stomach began to rumble. I didn’t even pay attention to the people staring at us as I was too focused on the delectable smells.

“Fufufu, is someone hungry?” My mother was happily smiling at me, clearly enjoying my wide eyes as I took in the sights. “Yes!” I immediately answered with my mouth watering as I looked to the stalls. “Let’s take her to that one place, dear.” My father began walking with me still on his shoulders. We made our way towards the metal building with sliding doors. As we entered my father sat me down.

The sliding doors closed behind us as I gazed at the interior of the building. It was quite large. The ceiling had a beautiful chandelier hanging down. The floors were black and tiled. Filling the tables were people with extravagant dresses and suits. I could tell that the restaurant was high class. The smell that greeted my nostrils was heavenly. I recognized the scent immediately. It was the smell of Italian food. I could smell the aroma of freshly cooked pasta, but there was also something else. There was no way this world had that right!?

I became excited as we walked to the podium in front of the entrance. Standing behind it was a human in a black and white waiter suit. “Your majesty and King, what brings you to this humble establishment today?” He bowed as he greeted  my mother and father. My mother waved him off.

“Oh please, no need for formalities. Today is a special day. We wanted to bring our precious daughter.” He finally noticed my short figure, and he grinned from ear to ear. “If it isn’t the princess! I hope the food will be to your liking. Now then, if you will follow me.” He turned to leave as we started to follow him through the building. I noticed many people stop eating, turning their attention to us. Some jumped to attention attempting to salute or bow.

“At ease, everyone please enjoy your meals.” My father quelled the people. I was nervous with so many peering eyes glancing in our direction, but soon we arrived at a room that was seemingly reserved just for us. The room was fancy. The walls were decorated with paintings, and the table had a black table cloth draped over it. In the center of the table were burning white candles.

“Please be seated, and I will be with you shortly.” He placed menus on the table. I was placed in a booster seat by my mother before my parents took their own seats. It didn’t take long for the waiter to bring us glasses filled with blood. He also placed bread on the table that was still piping hot. “What would her majesty and the king like today?”

“We will take the usual. As for our daughter… What do you want, dearie?” I had looked at the menu over and over again to confirm, but there was only one real option. Yes! I knew they had it! My enthusiastic voice left me as I yelled out. “Pizza!!”

My father chuckled, and my mother broke into laughter. “You heard the girl!”

The waiter left after taking our menus, and then I started to devour a delicious piece of bread. The parmesan covering the bread was delightful, and I wanted to squeal as I filled my cheeks. Crumbs covered my face. My mother was more than happy to wipe my face with a napkin, but she did chastise me for eating too fast. She had to tell me to slow down many times.

The waiter eventually came back with plates of food. My mother and father’s food was chicken alfredo pasta, but I quickly turned to the large metal plate that was placed in front of me. The sight almost brought tears to my eyes. A beautiful crust that was shining surrounded 6 large slices of pizza. I wasted no time barely hearing the waiter who told us to enjoy our food.

I grabbed the first slice and placed it in my mouth. The cheese was beautifully melted, and the toppings were superb. I greedily took one bite after another, finishing the first slice. I moved on to the next, then the next, then the next. Eventually the entire pizza disappeared into my little stomach. My parents enjoyed watching me eat as they ate their own food slowly and elegantly. I felt stuffed and satisfied as the waiter came back. He brought with him a chef with a large white hat. The chef was wide, but the smile on his face was even wider as he looked at me.

“I am always happy to see a face like that.” I couldn’t see the face I was making but I knew it was one of pure bliss. “Fufufu, she seems to have really liked the pizza you made.”

“I am glad I could make the royal family happy with my cooking every time you come here! It is a chef's greatest honor to serve you! Especially when the princess is able to make a face like that.” My eyes started to feel heavy as I began to enter a food coma. My head started to bob up and down. “Fufufu, It looks like a certain princess needs a nap. Send the bill to the castle like usual and we will cover it.”

The chef tried to argue against us paying for the food, but my mother never waivered. The chef relented, and said to bring me back by and he would make something even more delicious. When my father picked me up in his arms. It didn’t take long for me to fall asleep.
