Chapter 11: Chapter 7: Better Conditions – Unconditionally

Slowly approaching his opponent, Lake kept his [Fallen Knight’s Rapier] snuggly locked in its sheath. His intention was to drop out by losing. However, the look on his opponent’s face suggested that such a feat wasn’t going to be possible. With a terrified, disorderly expression, Lake’s opponent looked as if they were going to throw up.

Seeing that he wasn’t going to be able to fake a loss. Lake decided to make his way toward his opponent. They crouched down, holding their arms in front, completely terrified. There was no fight that was going to occur. Eventually, Lake looked over at the knight.

She thought about it for a moment.

“I guess we’ll call it your win. There’s no point.”

“That’s fine with me.”

With that, Lake went back into the line.

A few minutes later, it was once again Lake’s turn to fight. This time, his opponent had a determined look on their face. Holding an axe, they raised it, preparing to fight. Tensing their entire body, they prepared to attack with everything they had.

“I’m not afraid of you… you newbie!”

A few moments later, the knight lowered her hand.

“Go.”

The boy charged in, dashing toward Lake. He stood still, watching him apathetically. The boy planted his feet on the ground and swung his axe. Lake took a step forward, causing the blade of the axe to miss his body. However, he let his arm get caught by the handle before dramatically falling to the ground.

The boy was shocked.

“W-what…? What just happened…?”

Lake lay on the ground.

“Ah… looks like I lost,” Lake said in a monotone voice.

The boy looked down at him in pure confusion.

“Y-you’re… weak?”

Despite the fact that the boy was thoroughly convinced that he had won, the female knight was not at all impressed. She made her way to Lake and pulled him up off of the ground. Lake looked up at her listlessly. 

“What’s the matter.”

“Do you take me for a fool? Why did you purposely lose like that? Are you trying to mock me?”

The knight easily saw through the facade.

“I’ve had enough of this,” she decided. 

Letting go of Lake, she made her way back to the group of women.

“Alright, you’ve all probably seen enough. Are there any who’s caught your attention?”

Despite being a little bit more hesitant, they were all still charmed by Lake, despite his display during his seconds fight. It seemed that appearance was more important than anything. With two of the women both wanting him, the knight was forced to make an arrangement.

“Eh, are you sure you both want him?”

They both nodded.

“Ah… well, this isn’t going to work. What are your ranks?”

“I’m Captain of the 31^st Battalion,” one of them answered.

“I’m Lieutenant of the 2^nd special platoon, but I’ll give you 500 Francs on top of it!”

The knight came to a decision. Her expression was one of annoyance. In the end, she chose the easy option and left it at that.

“I don’t want to deal with this, Captain of the 31^st. You can take him.”

“…but…!”

The other woman’s disagreement was ignored.

With that, the Captain gestured for Lake to come over. Without much care, he began making his way over to the envy of many of the other men. Following her, the two of them began making their way toward the main city.

“I’m Nia. What’s your name?”

“Lake.”

“Ah, you’re not a very talkative one. Well, just to let you know, this is my first time getting a man, so I’m not too sure how everything works.”

“It doesn’t bother me.”

“W-well, that’s good. Um… so, is this like a… date?”

“I’m not exactly sure what I’d describe this as.”

Nia was obviously very inexperienced with the whole concept of boys in general. She looked down at her clothes before getting flustered. She was still in her dark green army uniform, with almost her entire body covered. She glanced up at Lake, but he didn’t show any reaction.

They were walking through the street. The other women weren’t as concerned as usual, but they still seemed to feel that Lake’s presence was disagreeable, even when he was picked up by a high-ranking girl.

“Can you wait a moment…? I want to get changed first.”

“I usually wouldn’t mind. But I’d rather avoid the harassment from standing here alone.”

“O-oh… um, in that case, you can stay at my house.”

“Thank you.”

The two of them made their way to Nia’s large estate. It was on the outskirts of town. However, it was clearly quite lavish. From a large fountain in the middle to a great white fence surrounding the entire land, it was decorated with the utmost care. 

“Ah, I had a large inheritance,” Nia commented.

They made their way through the courtyard before entering the modern, well-kept home of Nia. It was in complete contrast to the conditions that Lake had been living in for the past few days. With elegant, soft couches, expensive paintings and clean living spaces, it was something that all of the men yearned for. 

As soon as he walked through the entrance, another girl looked at him, completely shocked. 

He loud a huge scream.

“Ahhh! What the hell is a boy doing here?!”

Nia hurried to calm her down.

“C-calm down, Nora. He’s my partner.”

“Partner? Like you guys are going to make a child?”

“W-well… not exactly like that… I just want to try it out first… before we go that far.”

“Try what out, Sis?”

“You know… Alice described it as something very enjoyable…”

“I don’t get what you’re talking about.”

Suddenly, Nia’s phone began ringing. She quickly moved outside to take it, leaving Lake and her sister alone in the living room. Lake tried to just stare off into the distance, but he couldn’t help but notice Nora staring daggers at him.

Nia peeked her head through the entrance.

“There’s been an attack near the west side. I’ve been summoned over, so I’ll be back in a little while. Nora, take care of Lake while I’m gone.”

“Wait, why do I ha—?!”

Before Nora could finish her sentence, Nia had already disappeared.
