[Okay, we will still go with formation Q1.] Mark said and began to run towards the Quogoa.
His helmet had been lost somewhere, and his ink-black hair flew wildly in the wind.
[Are you sure?] Three worried voices simultaneously came into his head.
[Yes] Mark gave a short reply.
He could understand they were just worried about him. But to him, it felt like he was being mocked.
'Damn you, coward!!!' Mark cursed himself inwardly.
If it was not because of his past trauma of death, Mark wouldn't have been frozen at such a crucial time.
Yes, he would have been scared a little, but this was too much.
He was so ashamed of himself. He wanted nothing more than to hide his face. He didn't even know what his family members might think of him after this day.
But it was not just shame he was feeling. Mark was also angry… a lot. He wanted to tear someone apart, and fortunately, he had a good target in front of him.
Soon, Mark reached in front of the Quogoa, and Melanie disappeared by using [Stealth].
[Ting!]
[Ting!]
[Ting!]
Mark didn't dwell on it and used [Berserk Wave] three times.
[Energy Points: 141/200]
It seemed 1 Energy Point had been generated already. It was not that surprising since Eleanor had used [Divine Mana Recovery] on him.
The Quogoa was rushing towards him madly. Most likely because of the stacking effect of [Berserk Wave].
Again, the fear began to grip his heart, but Mark was too ashamed and angry to let it be.
"AAAHHH!!!" With a cry full of anger and anguish, Mark hid his figure behind his shield, in preparation to tackle the Quogoa.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
The Quogoa was rushing towards him with heavy steps. Mark's eyes never left it.
'Now,' He thought and tugged on his Energy Core.
A stream of Energy points passed through 'Shield-Path' and converted into 'Shield-Aura'.
Then, Mark formed a few incoherent runes out of it and sent all the runes toward his shield, which began to glow because of the influx of runes.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
Just before the Quogoa reached him, Mark muttered [Perfect Reflection] and the surface of his shield glowed like a mirror.
Mark looked at the Quogoa, who was just two meters in front of him.
Its hulking figure made Mark look like an ant. Its red eyes were filled with rage, and it had a menacing grin, that showed its sharp metallic teeth.
Suddenly its right fist began to glow, and it leaped toward Mark while making a punching motion.
'It must be a skill,' Mark thought.
Beasts also had 'Cores', and they could also use skills. Though they were not as intelligent to learn skills as humans did. Instead, beasts inherited the skills from their ancestors.
Soon, the inevitable happened.
The Quogoa put all his weight behind it and punched Mark with its glowing fist, and Mark used his shield to defend the punch.
"Huhuhu," its menacing smile turned into full-blown laughter when it saw Mark's action.
'How could this puny creature defend its fist,' that must be going on its head. At least, that's what Mark felt it must be thinking.
BOOM
Just the sound of the collision made Mark dizzy. Just how many Aura Points had it used in that punch?

Though, his thoughts were cut off because of the pressure he was feeling. He felt every bone in his body would be crushed.
Fortunately, that didn't happen. Instead, the pressure passed by him like the wind.
The Quogoa's menacing grin also froze, but that's not because it understood Mark had survived. Instead, it was totally confused.
Because there was one more Quogoa behind the 'puny creature', and that Quogoa looked exactly like it, but it was a little hazy like that Quogoa was some kind of 'Reflection'.
[Skill activated: Perfect Reflection
Description: At the same level, any attack on the user will be reflected completely. (Activation Cost: 20 Aura Points)
Warning: To successfully reflect an enemy's attack, the user may have to use extra Aura Points, depending upon the strength of the enemy's attack.]
The Quogoa didn't understand, where this 'Reflection' came from. But the Reflection's fist was glowing and its sharp teeth were protruding out of its jaws.
Before the Quogoa could react, the Reflection hit it with a glowing punch — BOOM — and it was thrown away.
[Energy Points: 71/200]
Mark had used 20 Energy Points to activate the [Perfect Reflection], and additional 50 Energy points were consumed to actually reflect the attack.
Mark gave it a cursory glance and activated the ring.
[Now!!!]
He shouted, and Melanie appeared near the sprawled Quogoa.
Its condition didn't seem good. Its chest was caved in, and the brown blood was coming out of its mouth.
But it still attacked Melanie with its sharp claw. Fortunately, Melanie was agile enough to back away. But she didn't forget to stab her stiletto in its hand to pin it to the ground before using [Stealth].
"GRRRR,"
The Quogoa growled in the pain and tried to unpin its hand from the ground, where it was pinned because of Melanie's stiletto, which she had left before disappearing.
Because of its strength, the Quogoa successfully unpinned its arm from the ground. Next, it tried to remove the stiletto from its hand, but Melanie reappeared behind it and stabbed it with her dagger on its back, about 10 inches left of its spine.
[Done.] She said and rapidly backed away.
[Good.] Mark nodded approvingly, then he looked towards Catherine, who had already taken her position behind the Quogoa.
Soon, a bluish lightning bolt left her wand and hit her target — the metallic black dagger — perfectly.
Thud
Not even a few seconds passed before the Quogoa fell sideways, and laid like that without moving.
There was only silence left for a few seconds.
Mark cautiously neared it and checked its condition.
Mark could not believe it. They had actually slain their first beast.
It all seemed magical. Like he was in some kind of dream.
Looking at the approaching figure of Melanie, he smiled.
"You did great, mother."
"I only followed what you told me," Melanie replied with a smile. "And I wouldn't have been able to stab it at the right spot if it hadn't been injured by your skill."
"And don't forget, you were the one who told us about its weakness in the first place," Catherine said after reaching them. "So the credit goes to you for our success."
'Are they trying to cheer me?'
They would have already understood how he was feeling because of his blunder and might have been trying to cheer him.
Though Mark was still ashamed, he was at least glad that they didn't feel contempt toward him.
If it was his previous party, he would have been mocked to death.
After taking out a 'Core' from the dead Quogoa, all three of them went to check on Leona's condition.
