Chapter 19: Chapter 19 : The First Target

After finishing their hunt, Mark's Party reached their foothold in the late noon. Though it was quite early for them. 

Because usually, they went on the hunt in the morning, rested in the noon to recover their Energy Points, then continued their hunt in the evening. They returned to their foothold only at the night. 

So why did they return earlier today?

Because they had already gathered 12 H-rank cores using the new method… Which, compared to the past two weeks, was twice what they had gathered even on their best days. 

Though it didn't mean there were no hiccups… Fortunately, Melanie was there to protect them.

Mark had also allowed them to use skills and spells when it was necessary, hence they were so successful. 

The first thing they did after reaching the hidden cave was to take a hot bath.

Next, they ate lunch together and went to sleep in their tents.

Since there was no point in practicing their skills and spells with empty Energy Cores. Hence they went to sleep to recover their Energy Points first. 

Eleanor and Melanie went in the first tent while Catherine and Leona went in the second one. Mark was the last one to enter the third tent, which was exclusive to himself. 

He had deliberately made such an arrangement because if he had to 'release' some frustration due to the curse he would have some privacy.

His family members also knew that hence they didn't question him and let him spend some 'Coins' to buy an exclusive tent. 

Inside his tent, Mark was currently laying on a king-sized bed with a thoughtful expression.

'At such a rate we may actually escape.'

If He and his family continued to improve at the same rate, Mark was sure they had a high chance to steal the mirror and escape before the King's diviners could find them. 

He relaxed a little thinking about it. 

'But what is wrong with mom?' Mark frowned. Though he had some idea of what would be worrying Eleanor, he still didn't want to reach any conclusions without talking to her.

Mark began to stand up. But remembering how tired Eleanor looked after the lunch, he decided to let her rest for now. 

'But I must talk to mom at night.' He thought. Mark was so hasty because his heart was being torn apart seeing her like that. He felt suffocated.

It was such a weird feeling he never completely understood himself. 

Unfortunately, he was sure Eleanor would never reciprocate his feelings.

She would find his feelings immoral and taboo. It might even cause a crack in their relationship if he told her the truth. 

He knew Eleanor wouldn't do anything to hurt him intentionally even if he confessed, but she would begin to be conscious around him. Hence telling her directly would be the height of idiocy.

Unless Eleanor didn't change her perception towards incest, he wouldn't have any chance with her. Though Mark wasn't someone who gave up so easily. If he had to change her perception to succeed, he would do so. 

Mark hastily began to make some plans to achieve that. But most of his plans were made based on assumptions.

After all, he was not playing chess where the pieces' behavior was predetermined. Instead, in real life, plans failed more times than they succeeded.

Though he still came up with a simple but effective plan.

If anyone among Melanie, Leona, or Catherine became his girlfriend. Then Eleanor would have to reluctantly accept their relationship in the end. 

It's because Eleanor would never be able to snatch their happiness. She was too good to do something like that. Even if she had to make some comprises to make them happy, she would do so.

After all, they were not hurting anyone, and incestuous relationships were taboo because of the problems such a relationship could cause to their future children. But that was not the case with awakened because of their superior genes. 

Hence, according to Eleanor's nature, she would accept their relationship in the end, albeit with some reluctance. 

Once some time passed Eleanor would begin to get comfortable with their relationship. Which might change her perspective and Mark was betting on that.

It was a long shot and might take some time. But Mark was fine with spending some time and effort as long as he could make Eleanor fall for him.

'But who would be the best target?' 

Choosing a single target didn't mean Mark would not eye others. Instead, he just wanted to target the easiest person first. That would give Eleanor plenty of time to get used to such relationships.

Though if it was in Mark's hands, he would have gone for Melanie. Because it would influence Eleanor the most. Unfortunately, Melanie was too cunning and might see through him. Hence he crossed her name mentally.

'So who should it be? Leona or Cat?'

Both of them were young and had never experienced a relationship. Mark didn't want to say this, but his sisters were still naive. Especially Catherine, who found it a little difficult to understand emotions and made choices based on logic. 

'But isn't it good for me?' 

As they were awakened and had superior genes, their relationship wouldn't have side effects as usual incestuous relationships had.

Catherine would also reach the same conclusion after some research. Thus 'logically' it was completely fine for her to be Mark's girlfriend. 

Though it didn't mean she would totally ignore the 'morals' of society, but Mark would still have an easier time pursuing her than Melanie or Leona.

'Cat it is, then. But… Should I really do it?' He questioned himself for a second.

After all, no good son, or a good brother, would make such moves on his family members. But Mark couldn't deny he was attracted to them. 

He also remembered how in his last life he used to fantasize about things he would do if he got a second chance.

Now that he had finally gotten the second chance he had so desperately desired, Mark really wanted to fulfill all those fantasies. 

He began to think deeply for a few seconds.

'Haah, I'll stop if my actions hurt them.' 

Mark didn't want to restrain himself. But if his actions had bad consequences for his loved ones, then he would stop.

After all, he genuinely loved them. If he had to break a promise of his past life to keep them happy, then he would do so. 

With such thoughts, Mark peacefully drifted to sleep.
