"Huff. Huff. Huff."

Mark woke up from his sleep and sat up straight in the middle of the night while breathing heavily. His whole body was drenched in sweat.

'What was that dream?'

This question was ringing in his head again and again. Like a record, which was set on a loop.

'Am I really Luke?'

It sounded ridiculous to him. Mark had read many reincarnation novels to understand what exactly was happening. But it didn't mean he could accept everything so easily.

According to his theory, he had reincarnated as a child in this world, but somehow had forgotten about his memories of earth. Which he suddenly gained because of a dream.

But why now? Was it because he was trying to remember his childhood memories to find the reason for his fear of death? Which in turn triggered his memories of earth.

'Wait! Of course, I would fear death!'

Now, everything made sense to him, like why Leona's former master had called him a coward.

In his previous life, Mark had gotten a terminal illness, which could not be cured. He had found about it at the age of 14.

This was the age, when he could clearly understand what such illness implied for him. But he was not mature enough to handle such brutal truth.

He had gone to best hospitals, with no results. Then he began to do charity to accumulate good karma. He prayed to god, and even begged to devil.

He was clearly scared of death, and was ready to do anything to avoid such fate. Unfortunately, nothing worked and in the end, he had accepted it as truth. Hence Mark began to enjoy what little life he had left with.

… Mark was grinning from ear to ear thinking about it. His prayers were finally answered. He remembered how a crack had formed in the mid air, after he had finished playing 'The Unfortunate Hero'.

It couldn't be a natural phenomena. Right? But then who had reincarnated him, and why?

Mark shook his head. It was not the time to think about it. First, he had to find out the date.

He was reincarnated as Mark, and was currently in the capital city of the only human kingdom, Humora. He didn't need anymore clues to find out that he was reincarnated inside 'The Unfortunate Hero', and probably didn't have much time before being choosen by the holy sword.

Mark hurriedly went towards calender, and began to curse. He didn't know if he was lucky or unlucky to regain memories on the day when seven heroes would be choosen from seven races.

He soon calmed down, and tried to plan his next course of action.

Minutes passed by calmly, but his thoughts were interrupted when a beautiful sword with golden aura materialized out of thin air, and zoomed towards him at high speed.

Mark flinched, but he still didn't get out of the way. As soon as the tip of the sword touched his body, a golden screen materialized in front of him.

[You have been selected by the Holy-sword. Would you like to be a Hero?]

[Yes/No]

He also got some informations directly in his mind. Like who was a hero? How many heroes were there? Why was he chosen? And what was the main duty of the hero?

Then, a timer materialized in front of him.

Even in the game, he had gotten this timer. If he didn't choose any option within 10 seconds it would automatically be considered a negative reply, and someone else would get the opportunity to be chosen by the holy sword.

But did Mark want such a thing to happen? If holy sword chose someone who didn't have memories of future. Then, they would also be played by that bastard king, and history would repeat itself.

Which meant, the demon king would not die even if he was hit by seven curses, and the demon king would finally be able to conquer the world.

Mark shuddered just thinking about it. After all, Mark was a human. Why would demon king leave him and his family alone when demon king wanted to eliminate all seven races.

Though, Mark didn't know the whole truth, demon king held some deep grudge against seven races. So not choosing to be a hero, and leaving his fate in someone else's hands would be the height of idiocy.

Hence, Mark agreed.

At his answer, the holy-sword turned into golden liquid and entered his body. Soon, his whole body began to marge with golden liquid, and at the same time a golden pillar originated from heavens and bathed him in its light. Because of the golden pillar the outside looked like a day.

'Fuck! Royal guards will be here at any moment because of this damn pillar!!'

In the game, just few minutes after becoming a hero, he was taken to Royal Palace and met with the king. Who already had information regarding heroes, and demanded unreasonable things.

Mark's expressions turned a little unsightly, remembering that bastard king. Then he froze.

'Shit! That bastard is an SS- level mind mage!'

Remembering the king's class, Mark wanted to cry. Yes, Mark would get high mental defense because he needed to defend against curses. But the curses became powerful with the growth of the hero. Meaning, his mental defenses would only be just a little better than other newbie awakeners.

So if king tried to use SS-level mind spell to read his memories, would he even able to defend? Nope, he might not even notice such a spell right now. Or perhaps king had used this spell on Mark even in the game, but he had not noticed.

He remembered, in the game, Mark's profile mentioned he deeply care for his family. Was that why Mark's family was kidnapped?

He shook his head to return to reality. All of these were just hypothesis, but one thing was true. Mark didn't wish to even meet the king.

But how would he leave? He was sure the security of the whole city must have been increased. He was not delusional to think he could bypass such high level security.

That was not all, he had later heard, even space had been frozen by some sort of grand array. Many people didn't know about it, since it was a secret, but later in the game, he had seen the king using this array twice.

It was a city wide space array, and only the king had control over it. That bastard never trusted anyone, but it would turn out to be his greatest mistake. Since it was middle of the night. That bastard must be sleeping. Right?

If he had given control of city wide space array to someone else in case, he was busy, then Mark would not even have imagined to leave the city.

But it was not king's fault. Heroes were a deep secret which even Mark didn't know about after living in this world for 19 years. So why would a hero run away just after being choosen? No hero would have such thoughts. Hence, the king must have been a little carefree.

But what if someone saw the future? Did this possibility never cross king's mind? Mark scoffed mentally. Even if someone designed such a complex spell, the energy required to use it would be unimaginable.

Time was the domain of gods, and mortals deeply respected it. The ones who didn't, only became the example why they should have. That was the reason why the king didn't take any security measures.

His thoughts were interrupted by another notification.

[Congratulations Hero Mark. You have been successfully awakened.]
