Chapter Forty Two.

When we stopped, we could see the lines of carriages with their maids and butlers awaiting our arrival.

These should be for the others. However, which one was ours?

Before finding out which one was ours, I heard a familiar voice.

“James, I’ll miss you, however, if you ever want to become an adventurer, find us and we will gladly accept you into our party.” Ralph who was jokingly on the verge of tears said before hugging me.

“I’m going to miss you three too, make sure to send letters about your adventures!” I said, before waving Ralph, Violet, and Sydney off. They had become some of the closest friends I have made, I hope I’ll see them again. Who knows… I might see them on some of my own adventures.

As they got into the same carriage as each other, they waved back at us until their carriage went out of sight.

It was quite sad leaving your friends, however, one cannot dwell on the path for too long. Sadly I became depressed again very soon.

“It looks like my carriage is over there.” Rose pointed out, however she had a sad tone to her voice.

It was a normal-looking carriage, not fit for a princess, however, she had come here as a normal student, not as one of the royal family.

Before she left, she gave each of us a hug.

“Claire, Clara keep writing to me please, I’m going to miss you.” They were all on the verge of tears while embracing each other. However that was to be expected, over these six years, they had practically become sisters, and acted like ones as well. It would be odd if their Farwell was anything less than this.

After talking a little bit more to Claire and Clara, Rose turned to me and smiled before hugging me again and leaning close to my ear.

“I’ll keep myself for you, so don’t keep me waiting too long If you don’t accomplish something massive and get my father’s recognition, I’m afraid I’ll be married off to some other country’s prince.” She said this before giggling a little and hugging me tightly before letting go.

What did she mean by that? I was confused, however, this was the first time she had openly expressed these types of feeling for me, besides the other night…

I guess I have another person waiting for me to return.

After one more farewell, we saw Rose to her carriage, while waving until it turned around the corner the girls showed a strong face, however, when the carriage went out of sight, Claire and Clara burst into tears.

“Will we see her again?” Clara was practically had snot dripping down her face while the tears were filling her eyes, the same could be said for Claire.

They truly cared for Rose.

“Of course you will.”

While I silently comforted them, I heard someone, yes a familiar voice called my name.

“Young James, you have grown up into a fine young man.”

It was the old and wise butler, Steven.

My heart shook. I hadn’t seen him in a couple of years, he was also a man I greatly looked up to and frequently sent letters to ask for advice. However, his usual response would be. “In time you will know.” Or. “Knowing the answer straight away doesn’t allow you to grow any faster.”

“Yes, it’s been far too long Steven, how are you?” I asked casually, almost as if I was talking to an old friend I hadn’t seen in years.

However, that was the case. Although he was the head butler, he felt more like a friend than anything else.

“I have been doing great Young James. How about Young Claire and Young Clara? Are they upset about their friend leaving?”

It looks like he saw everything, well after explaining who Rose was, Steven, paused for a second before smiling.

“It’s only natural for one to cry after saying farewell.” He said almost as if he was reminiscing about something in the past. Just who was Steven? Although he had briefly told me about his life and how he got to work as a butler, I had no other idea.

However, the words he spoke, were words from a wise man…

After greeting Claire and Clara before talking for a bit, we got inside the carriage and made our journey back, and although the trip wouldn’t even take a full day, we decided to stop at a small town to get some food.

And one finishing the good, we walked around for a while, well it was mainly me talking with Steven while we got dragged around the clothing shops by Claire and Clara, who were buying massive amounts of clothing to make up for the depravity of having to wear the school uniform five days a week for six years.

Girls yearned to be fashionable, I had learned that the hard way over many occasions.

“All right that’s everything, Let’s head back now.” And with Claire saying that we got back into the carriage and made our way back to the family estate.

However while on the road, we were stopped by some bandits.

Although Claire was raring to go, Steven suddenly stood up.

“Although you are more than capable of handling these punks by yourself Young Claire, I wouldn’t be able to call myself a butler if I let you do that, please leave the dirty work to me.” As Steven said that he stepped out of the carriage.

Claire pouted slightly.

For a couple of seconds, we could hear the groans and screams of many people, however, none of the groans lasted more than five seconds.

I knew Steven was strong when he was younger, he was an adventurer, naturally one would have to be strong to become one. However, when he came back, he had no blood or dirt on his clothes.

Just how strong was he? Even I wasn’t so sure that I could go into a fight and dodge even the droplets of blood that splattered out of the enemy while finishing off my opponents in under five seconds. Each.

“Now that, that’s dealt with, shall we continue?” Steven said before signalling the carriage driver to go forwards.”

It had started to get dark, however with the sun just about setting, we finally turned the corner and the family estate came into view.

One thing seemed different from when I saw it last.

It had gotten bigger.

After a couple more minutes, the Carriage stopped and Steven opened the door.

A usual sight appeared before me.

The entrance of the estate was in line with maids and butlers waiting for our arrival.

“Welcome back, Young Claire, Young James, and Young Clara.” They said in unison.

However just after they finished and I was about to step out of the carriage, a sudden shadow jumped out swiftly before me and landed on the floor.

“Dad! Mom! Aunt Elzy! We’re back!”

It was Claire…
