Looking up toward the moonlight, my eyes widen as I quickly realize what I have been feeling.
The very thing that I was feeling was something that I hadn’t felt in quite some time. Well, perhaps that was an understatement. I haven’t felt it in a long time.
The feeling was warmth, but it wasn’t coming from anything like the sun or anything. It was something like human skin, but the skin that was wrapped around me wasn’t human but more animalistic. However, it didn’t quite bother me. The warmth of the fur was getting to me as I was gently swayed left and right by the figure that was embracing me.
I could not see the face of the figure, but that didn’t bother me either.
What mattered to me was that I could feel the warmth. It was something that I hadn’t felt in so long that it made me feel like I wanted to cry. However, I couldn’t cry. I couldn’t even speak. The only thing that I could do was make baby-like noises like "goo" or "gaga!".
It was weird, but it was something that I could get used to.
Wait, where am I?
The thought just came to mind. I was in a prison cell, and I had been stabbed to death by the guard… So, shouldn’t I have been sent to hell? Why am I staring up at the moonlight right at this very moment?
Did… God give me a second chance?
That was the first thing that came to my mind, but it quickly goes away as I quickly shake my head.
There’s no way God gave me a second chance. I am a cold-blooded murderer after all.
I shake my head slightly, and I hear and feel gentle laughing emanating from the figure that was embracing me. It made me smile a little. It was the first time in a long time that I felt genuine joy. I really wanted to keep it. I didn't want it to leave. It was something I never wanted to forget.
At the same time, I felt as if I didn't fully deserve it. Looking back at my life… Or well, my past life, it was something that I regretted fully.
I wanted a second chance, but in truth, I didn’t deserve a second chance.

I kept questioning why God would give me such a thing, but there was no such answer.
"Such a beautiful night, and we managed to have our newborn son under this beautiful sky. I suppose we may as well have a feast the very next night." A manly voice says it out loud. I suppose that it was my new father if we go by the fact that I reincarnated.
"What shall we name him?"
"Hikaru," the man says, with what I’d assume to be a smile. In my previous life, my name was Yakumo. It was, to me, an ugly name, but perhaps there was no point in judging it if it was something that I wouldn’t go by anymore.
Hikaru…
Hikaru as in the kanji for light?
Thinking about it, I giggled a little bit out loud, which brought my two new parents to laughter.
Before my mother sat me down, I gave one last smile. In compared to what I had seen before, I could see her much more clearly now. They were human-like, but their arms were animal-like, giving the impression that they were part human and part animal.
I extended my arms in front of me to see if I had the same expression as them, but to my astonishment, I didn't! It was very weird, but it wasn’t something that I paid much mind to as having animal-like features would be strange to me, a normal human.
However, when I looked down at my arms, I observed a little little skull circling my very own wrist. It was encircled by purple flames, but it was doing nothing except circling. So it wasn't something I paid much attention to, but it was something I was concerned about.
My parents hadn't said anything, so it was almost as if I was the only one who could see it.
I was wondering if this skull was going to try to take everything from me or if it was just there to look... If it was the former, I most likely deserved it.
My mother quickly picks me up once more, taking me to what seems to be the house that we are living in.
