I hold the book to my chest, flipping the pages.

I am four years old. I have grown to know this world quite a bit, and when it comes to languages, I have been able to hold conversations very well. However, there are still some flaws in my speech, as I have been learning more complex vocabulary. However, that same vocabulary is only being learned because of magic.

Magic is something that everyone in this world uses to some extent, albeit not all to an extreme.

Offensive.

Defensive.

Support.

There are various types of magic to use, and with that, it also requires different kinds of vocabulary and learning an entire new language. The new language is very complex, but it’s also easier to learn at the same time as it doesn’t require you to learn an entire new grammar system, characters, etc. It only requires you to learn a few phrases, which, of course, you have to translate into your own language.

For example, if I wanted to use fireball, I’d have to say:

"Burn everiethyng tu eshes, fyrebell." Which, in truth, is just "Burn everything to ashes, fireball."

I take a big breath and then alternately stare at my father and mother. They were standing close to me and dwarfed my petite frame because they resembled giants. I make an effort to concentrate on the text while slowly forming the wand in my hand into the shape of a star.

A key component of learning magic is focus. Fortunately, there isn't a lengthy incantation you have to recite each time, but when there is, it's usually a powerful spell.

I inhale deeply one last time before reshaping it into the shape of a star.

I can do this…

“Y gyve nie ellyes lyfe. Y gyve nie enenyes lyfe. Neturel heelyng!”

The tree in front of me suddenly takes on a green aura that sits there for a short while before the tree gradually sprouts a few free branches, and from those branches, apples start to appear.

My eyes grew wider. My body is filled with elation. I repeatedly jump up and run up to my parents, giving them bear hugs.

My mouth was empty but for laughter.

For someone who wasn't truly accustomed to this world, being able to utilize magic was a great accomplishment that would make them feel even better. That is precisely why I am happy and pleased. I'm used to seeing folks brandishing katanas, daggers, or firearms. I won't claim that those things don't exist in this world because it has been established that they do, but magic was still something I wasn't used to.

For the first time in what seemed like an eternity, I was actually joyful. Not that I haven't been content in my four years of existence, but this particular time made me feel particularly joyful. It was something I knew I wouldn't forget but also something I didn't want to forget. Or, to be more precise, I was unable to forget it, not something I would never forget.

"Good job, son."

"Good job, Hikaru."

Both my mother and father patted me on the back, congratulating me at the same time. They, too, were happy with what I did.

"Thank you!" I shouted out.

This time...

This time I will not ruin it...

I promised myself that ever since the very first week of my being alive in this world.

If I ruin it, I will never forgive myself.

If I ruined this life, I would probably deserve a fate even worse than death. I have been given a second chance, and it’s something that I won’t, and I mean absolutely won't, ruin.

I look up at the sky. It’s been a long day learning magic, casting magic, and perfecting the small number of spells that I managed to learn.

I can use a small-scale healing spell, a small-scale shield, and, of course, a very weak version of Fireball.

Although it's an improvement over nothing, I had hoped to learn more. I was previously informed that some four-year-old kids were capable of competing with even their parents.

To a certain extent, though, I don't think that is a true story. It just looks like a story out of fairy tales that four-year-old kids could compete with fully mature adults.

To put it simply, someone who is a youngster and can outperform grownups may be regarded as a demi-god.

It’s been a long four years...

I think to myself and reflect on everything that I have learned so far.

Beast men's language... Magic... Some human and elven languages... I’ve learned how to hold full conversations...

Actually, now that I think about it, I haven't learnt much. The history of the planet was the one subject I was most interested in learning. But for some reason, my parents kept that a secret from me.

Maybe I could ask them? Maybe I'll be able to learn at least a little history as I'm about to depart for the kingdom...

When I give it some thought, history is unquestionably the most significant aspect of the world, yet my parents won't let me learn about it.

I get up and turn toward the house.

Maybe if I studied some world history, I could improve my skills with the sword, the language, and perhaps even some magic. That does fall under the same umbrella of speaking and language, though.

I walk toward the house, with one single question on my mind.

But, before I can enter, the door opens, and I see my father, carrying a sword on his shoulder. I could tell where he was going in an instant, and that would be to the training fields to practice his own swordplay.

But, before he could take another step, I looked up to him.

"Father, I have a question."

"What is it?"

"Since I am going to the kingdom in two years, may I please borrow the history books so that I can learn more about the history of the world? It could help me study everything that I have been studying…"

"…"

My father sighs, looking down at me with a small little grin.

"Well, you see, Your mother would murder me, but I’m going to allow you just this once. Study hard, as that information you’ll learn will be quite important to know."

My father moves past me, patting me on the head.
