“Doesn’t sound like an elvish name to me.” Prince Edmund said before turning to his men, “Why are you all just standing around? Get a fire going!”

“That’s because I’m not an elf.” I clarified, removing my helm to reveal myself. This resulted in a questioning look from the prince.

“Interesting…” Prince Edmund nodded, “Normally, we humans don’t go around casually wearing that kind of gear. Where did you acquire it if you don’t mind me asking?”

“Yeah… that’s a long story.” One that I doubted we had the time to explain. It seemed like this guy was powerful, so I thought, why not give it a shot, and try to scan his stats.

[System Error: Target cannot be scanned.]

“That’s not going to work,” the prince grinned as if he knew what I had tried to do, “the same way your magic spell was going to bounce right off my armour.”

What the heck! How did he know what I was going to do? There was something really off about this guy, or there was something I was missing.

“Don’t worry,” He smiled, “Anyway, I want you and your party to come by the palace after this is over. There’ll be plenty of time for you to tell me how you acquired that armour.” He then turned to his men once again, “Come on! How long does it take to light a damn fire.”

By this time, Atreyu had sorted himself out and moved forward, which got him a funny look from the prince.

“My lord,” Atreyu said, scratching his head.

“Well, if it isn’t Atreyu… the clown.” Before patting him on the shoulder. “How are you keeping? Still active in your ploughing game, I imagine.”

“You know how it is…” Atreyu slurred as we approached the dancing campfire. This was the same time Azer, and his men emerged from the tree line.

“Good, there’s a fire,” Azer mumbled, pushing the cart, “Hurry up and push this damn thing, I need to get warm…” He huffed and puffed.

“It’s about time.” Artos gave him a disapproving nod, “Shouldn’t have run that far, you sneaky shit.”

“Is that Azer?” Edmund asked after taking a moment to recognize him, “Now that explains why half of you are drunk.” He said before turning to the merchant, “You have any of that Bosa left?”

We spent the next hour getting warm and sorting ourselves out for the battle ahead. Atreyu and Lanakis had been banned from drinking any more Bosa after getting a scolding lecture from Artos about acting properly in front of the royal prince. After eating food and getting our bellies filled with drink, the storm had died low improving visibility many times over.

Edmund carried an enchanted compass, which according to the prince, could detect highly concentrated amounts of magic and would lead us to where the Drake was no doubt wreaking more havoc. What had surprised him the most was that it had bounced in the direction of Sparky and Lanakis before finally settling in the direction of our frosty enemy. It made sense as they both had formidable pools of MP. What sucked the most was it didn’t even come close to the direction I was standing.

We came to a part of the forest where a large chunk of snow had been disturbed. Atreyu had noticed giant footprints before we followed them to a large opening in the trees. It looked as if the Drake had been waiting for our arrival and had its sights set on us as we entered what was going to be the battlefield. At the whisper of the word “Drake,” Azer and his men fell back like scared little kittens.

Edmund had naturally taken over leadership of the group, with Artos following his every command like a good little lap dog. Even the badass Atreyu was behaving himself, so I assumed the prince to be someone not to trifle with… for now, anyway. His company surrounded the beast in a giant oval, with Edmund himself in the centre, joined with me and the rest of my party. Atreyu took his place at a high vantage point perched on the large, sturdy branch of an oak tree where he sat ready with his bow.
