Chapter 2: The parasitic Dark D-Vice

[Sarah POV]

I was running. We all were. Suddenly, Puttimon cheered, and flew forward. Straight into a wall. 

"Come on! It's a hiding place!"

We followed it inside. It was a large cave, but according to Puttimon

"You can see outside, but the outside can't see in. We can hide here!"

And we did.

It had been several hours, cowering together, as the big black creature they called Devimon stalked outside... then suddenly it left. And we waited. And waited. I was worried about Mister Matt. He saved me, or tried to, and then gave us time to escape. Just as I was praying for him, the bushes outside rustled, and something walked into the cave.

It was just under six feet tall, one arm was a dark grey with black and red parts. It had dark circles on its eyes, almost like eyeliner. Pale skin, black hair running til laid-back, eyes red where the whites should be... but I recognized the clothing. The digimon had changed in the last few hours, a process they called Digivolving, and were larger now, Especially Leo's Digimon. She was five feet tall. 

"WHO ARE YOU! I WONT LET YOU HARM LEO!"

The creature spoke, in a strangely soft voice

"WOW, you guys got bigger. Do you not recognize me?"

"HOW CAN WE RECOGNIZE SOMEONE WEVE NEVER MET?"

I Looked at the clothes again. Black pants, a grey hoodie... why was it familiar... then it clicked, and I ran forward.

"MISTER! You're alive! But what happened to you?"

The others all gasped.

"I don't know, really... one minute I think I'm dead, the next i wake up with this thing embedded in my hand. And my voice sounds strange. I hope it's not a cold. Or worse."

Now that I was closer, i could see more changes... and I started laughing. "I don't.... haha... don't think it's a cold... heeheehee... oh... I cant breathe... someone find a mirror!"

"What? Whats so funny?"

[Matt? POV]

I stared at myself in the small pool at the back of the cave. Light being provided by small blue flames Leo's Digimon, Renamon, could create. I touched my cheek. Then my lips... Then looked down my shirt(something was there)... and clenched my legs together(something was missing!).

This damned device turned me into a woman! What's more, I looked about 14... 

"WHY? Is this my reward for sacrificing myself to save these kids? I mean, I get I'm not exactly human anymore, that weird voice told me as much, but why did it turn me into a girl? Why? SIGH. Ah well, bo turning back now, may as well just roll with it. Shit! What do I call myself? NO. My name is fine, for now, if a time comes I need to change it, I will but... for now its fine."

Elias kept staring at me. I mean, they all did, but most with curiosity mixed with pity... but I could swear Elias was staring at me with Envy... that, or he had a crush on me, which is just creepy, so I'm gonna say its envy... I'd talk to the kid later.

I had to be reintroduced to the digimon, so here's a brief summary.

DemiVeemon>Veemon

???(wouldn't say)>Renamon

Puttimon>Kudamon

Nyarumon>Salamon

Wanyamon>???(its mute, and the others dont know its name) it's a small cat-like digimon.

Apparently, they were now Rookie level, the third level up from eggs, and considered to be the first step as a fully adult digimon. If fresh level were babies and in-training were toddlers, rookies are preteens. At least, that's how Veemon explained it. Moreover, I apparently now smell like a rookie level digimon myself, but only partially, according to Renamon.

So I started messing with the thing in my hand, and managed to find some kind of user's manual. It was actually a message from that odd voice.

[SO, YOU'VE WOKEN UP! GOOD! SORRY ABOUT THE CHANGES, THAT WASN'T US, IT WAS THE VIRUS DEVIMON LEFT INSIDE YOU COMBINED WITH THE D-VICE AND OUR EMERGENCY MEASURES.  LET ME EXPLAIN (PRESS BUTTON) PLEASE.]

So, I pressed the button. What else would I do. Light shot out of the kids watches and my hand, forming into a young woman made of light.

We heard her voice in our minds.

<Greetings Digidestined. I am Aurea. I was created as a guardian of this digital world, but the dark overlords trapped me and my assistant in a void prism. When Devimon struck you, Dark Chosen, We were able to intervene as your body was near death. We implanted a cursed digivice into you, which Grant's you certain abilities. First, and this you share with the light chosen, Data-Absorption. Any digimon you defeat leaves behind data, that you can add to your own to grow stronger. For the partner digimon this helps build digivolution frames. For you it's a bit different, which leads to ability 2, You can replicate digimon attacks. Just know that every time you absorb data, the Dark Virus Spreads, and the Digivice integrates itself more into you. Third, and this is our fault. Your heart was destroyed. We replaced it with a digi core, that fused with what was left of the organ. So you are technically both digimon and human now. Fourth, well... we aren't sure if you yourself can digivolve. Lastly, well... the dark overlords. Apocalymon, armageddemon, Zeedmelliniummon, and chaosmon. These four are bent on destroying the digital world, and with it the human world. It's up to the five heroes of light to defeat them. You, our Tragic hero, will simply serve as a guardian for them... and again, sorry about the changes. You should know, however children, that each of you is gifted a special digivolution method. You, For example, young Sarah, posess the capability of Digimon harmonics. Whenever you drain the data of a certain species, dark for example, your digimons affinity for the opposing element grows stronger, unlocking digivolve options. Young Eli possesses the ability of Biological Fusion, combining with his digimon to gain new, stronger forms...  and Rosa can use data from defeated Foes to perform Fusion on her digimon, granting weapons, skills, and new forms. As for the others, I wont spoil it here. But just know it's a surprise. Goodluck, heroes.>

The hologram faded.  We were left alone in the dark

"Well" I said "Who's ready to apparently save two worlds? Show of hands, kids, dont be shy? No-body? That's what I thought..." I held the thing on my hand close to my face, and pressed the reply button on the message. "YOU CAN'T JUST KIDNAP CHILDREN AND EXPECT THEM TO SAVE THE WORLD! ITS JUST NOT RIGHT! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? IF NOTHING ELSE, I HOPE THIS GIVES YOU A HEADACHE! SUCH.... IRRESPONSIBILITY!"

A Few minutes later, a different voice echoed in our heads.

<noted. Have a nice day.>

"This... this... THIS FUCKING WORLD! GAAAAAH!" I punched a wall... with my transformed hand... it turned into a puff a data particles and was absorbed. "Ok, that's new. So, kids... any suggestions?"
