Inside the blue carriage, were two people sitting. One was a man in his thirties, Nero Ankston, and the other was a young boy, only nine years old, Matthew. Ankston was his new family name.
Matthew looked outside the small window beside him, and looked at the streets that were filled with many people walking, laughing with their friends, or just buying whatever they desired and needed.
He took a glance at his new father, and saw him reading a small book. Once they entered the carriage, he had told little Matthew that it would take them about ten, or so minutes before they reached the territory of the Ankston family.
The book Nero was reading, was called, "The Lost Age". It sparked Matthew's interest, since from when he had heard his first story from his mother, he had already fallen in love with learning as much as he could about this vast world.
He heard many stories, he especially liked ones that told about history, like the Battle of Hope, the battle that destroyed the Black Emperor's rule over the entire world. And so, when he read the title of this book, his interest was already peaked by it.
He couldn't resist anymore, and so, he asked the question, "Amm! Excuse me, father! I wanted to ask about the book you're reading, what is this lost age it's talking about!".
Nero looked at him, and the little boy could see that there was shock in the man's eyes. Nero opened his mouth, and asked the little boy in front of him, "You know how to read?".
He was quite shocked by this, since he had assumed that this young boy, that had come from a small village, and also was at the orphanage, wouldn't know how to read.
Yes, the orphanage did teach children how to read and write, but that was at 11 and above, not at nine years old. Nero smiled, and said, "I command your late parents for teaching you how to read and write at such an early age, I assume they weren't normal farmers like I've been told?".
Matthew smiled, since this was the first time someone had asked him about his parents. Still, he also felt a little awkward in this situation. His new father was asking him about his late family.
"Yes! My dad used to be a Chief Guard of a lowly noble in the capital city of our kingdom, and my mother was affiliated with a gang, though I don't know which one it was!".
Nero smiled when he heard about Matthew's father, but his smile quickly disappeared when he heard about what the mother did. He looked at Matthew, who chuckled a little, and said, "It's a long story, I will tell you about it later! Anyway... father", Matthew said so, a little uneasy, then continued, "What about my question?".
Nero smiled again, and responded, "Hoh! The Lost Age, this is what we call the age before the Black Emperor ruled the world! So far, I have only read the first few pages, which say that the world used to live in harmony before the evil emperor came, it still hasn't mentioned what this age really was about!".
Matthew nodded, and said, "Can I read the book after you finish with it, father?". Nero smiled and nodded, then said to him, a little serious, "Since you can read, this will make it better for me to teach you about the history of Our family!".
"I will give you two books that are necessary to read, so that you can't be thought of as being unfit to take the leadership of the family once I become old, or die. Your uncle has a son that's about your age, but, in terms of strength, well, you're far above him, yet, he does know way more than you about the family!".
"And, the blood of the Ankston family does run in his veins, for you to beat that, you need to become way, way stronger than him, and also rival him in what he knows about the history of our family! Though of course, it would be better if you can learn more than him!".
Matthew nodded, and thought to himself, 'Well, I wouldn't mind being beaten by whoever this guy is, unless he's bad!'. Then, the nine year old looked at his new father again, and said, "I do have another question, this one is about, the emblem of our family!".
Nero chuckled when he heard Matthew's words, and said, "Hahaha! You want to ask why a black wolf, right? And, if it relates to the One Eyed Wolf, or not? Well, I won't be answering you, if you really want to find out, read the two books I will give you!".
Matthew nodded, and thought, 'Hah! I was already going to read them, but now! Well, let's just say that I can't wait. I mean, if they really do have a connection to the Beast of Darkness, then what is it? Is the beast a guardian of the family, did the founder want to strike fear in his enemies, and so, he chose the Beast of Darkness as an emblem?'.
'I don't know, but I do want to know! I also think this is way better than just hearing it from him!'. With that, the rest of the journey was silent, as little Matthew looked at the streets and people from the window, while his new father, Nero, continued reading the book titled, "The Lost Age".
Finally, and after about 10 or so minutes had passed since they started their journey from the orphanage, they reached their destination, the Ankston family's main mansion. The place Matthew would be calling home for the rest of his childhood.
The gates opened for them, there were two guards wearing blue armor there, they had spears as weapons they held in their hands, and swords strapped to their belts, in case a spear wasn't enough. They even had shields lying beside them.
The blue carriage entered, and stopped inside the small, and beautiful garden. After which, Matthew, and Nero descended from the carriage. Matthew took a look around him, and was quite amazed by how beautiful the scenery looked here.

There was green grass everywhere, and they even had a little fountain in the middle of the place, with a black wolf statue above it. Matthew tried to look at the eyes, to get some clues, and it seemed like he was right.
The wolf had one eye only. 'Hah! I guess they do have a connection to the One Eyed Wolf after all, now, why? Is the next question I need answered!'.
The mansion was three floors high, and looked as big, and beautiful as the Cavias family's main mansion was.
'I guess they aren't low nobility really, it's only because they don't have an heir that they are considered as such, hah! Why does this make me want to make this family great again? Especially since I am supposed to do that!', thought Matthew as he looked at the garden around him.
He then noticed two figures walking to him and Nero, one was a beautiful woman. She wore a blue dress, and the decor on it was simply marvelous, Matthew found her even more beautiful than Theresia and Rania.
The second, was a very small little girl, that looked to be about three, or four years old, she was holding the woman's dress, and pulling on it a little, as if she was a little scared, or shy of something. The little girl looked very cute, she had black hair, and wore a small pink dress at the moment.
Soon enough, the two finally reached where Matthew, and his new father, Nero were. The woman ignored the man, and looked instead at the nine-year-old beside him, she smiled a warm smile, and said, "My name is Marcela, I will be your mother from now on, but, I am quite angry at Rania, she never said you were this cute!".
Matthew smiled, and gave a small bow, as he said, "Ah! Well, my name is Matthew, and nice to meet you... Mother?". The woman smiled and said, "It's fine, you don't have to force yourself to call me like that, you can just call me by my name if you want!".
Nero looked like he disagreed with what his wife had just said, but he didn't say anything, and kept his silence as he watched what was happening in front of him. The woman named Marcela, then smiled, and hit her forehead, as she said, "Oh! How could I forget, this will be your little sister from now on, she's called Olivia, but we call her Olly at home!".
Matthew smiled as he looked at the small little girl, that tried to hide herself behind her mother. He then produced a yellow piece of candy, it was one of the ones that was given to him last time the Cavias family visited.
Nero looked at the piece of candy, and smiled, 'Hah! The Cavias family is really rich, they can even give this kind of expensive candy to a kid that's not part of their family, this also proves that the Cavias family really cares about him! Good, with this, it will strengthen the bond between our families even further!'.
The little girl called Olivia, immediately stretched her hand to take the candy, as if all that shy part was only acting. Still, she didn't manage to get the candy, since Matthew had retracted his hand.
Olivia was a little stunned by this move, as she looked at Matthew in confusion. The nine year old smiled as he said, "Well, I can't give you this, until I confirm if you're truly going to be my little sister from now on or not! So, what is your name, young lady?".
Marcela looked at Matthew, as she chuckled a bit, the same thing happened with Nero. As for Olivia, the three-year-old girl, she looked at him for a second, and seemed to think about this great challenge, finally, she said, her expression indicating that she was angry.
"Hmph! My name is Olivia Ankston, now, give me the candy!". Matthew looked at the small little girl, as he was completely shocked by what just happened. He couldn't believe it, 'Wasn't she the shy, and cute type just a second ago?'.
He then smiled a creepy smile, and said, "Ahm! I haven't received my kiss from you, so no candy, also, is this the tone you will be using when talking to me? Ahh! It seems this bag of candy will be eaten by me instead!".
Matthew shook the small brow bag in his hand, and sighed. Nero looked at the little boy, and he couldn't stop himself from laughing, 'What candy is he talking about? There is only his clothing inside there!'.
Olivia's face turned even angrier, and instead of doing as she was asked by Matthew, she looked at her father, and said in a sad voice, "Dad! Please tell him to give me the candy?".
Nero smiled, and replied, "Nope! He will be your brother from now on, so you deal with him! Anyway! Let us enter the house, we shouldn't stay here too much, I am sure little Matt would like to have some sleep!".
Matthew nodded, and said, "Thank you, father!". He then followed behind Nero, who started walking toward the mansion. Marcela did the same, as for Olivia, she stared at Matthew, and went up to him. She pointed at him, very angry, and said, "Hey! Give me the candy now!".
Matthew didn't even look at her, and continued walking toward the mansion, something that only served to provoke the little girl more. While Olivia continued asking for the candy, and Matthew continued ignoring her.
At the front, their parents, were laughing. Nero barely stopped himself to say, "I guess they will be very good friends, han?". His wife Marcela smiled, and said, "I guess so, too!".
