Having a person without the blood of the family, inheriting the rulership of it, was very uncommon thing with noble families throughout the world. And in actuality, only the lowly noble families, or houses that were falling from grace, tried this out, as a last resort to try and strengthen their rank with a strong and talented orphan.

The same was happening now with Matthew. Only that, out of all the orphans adopted with this strategy, few were as talented as the nine-year-old boy, and even fewer were as strong as him at this age.

Still, Matthew, now was the heir to the Ankston family, and he wasn't quite sure how to take this news in. Yes, he had been practicing the entire month to win the position, and he had done just that on this day.

But, he didn't truly know if he wanted it or not. After all, his goal in life was to become a very strong Mage, and destroy the Black Tower! With a secondary goal that was growing weaker every day, "To hold back the Black Emperor!".

First off, he didn't know when this emperor of doom would be back, and second, he wasn't very much interested in him. His real goal, was the destruction of the Black Tower.

For that, he needed to become very strong, and acquire the help of many others. His first target of help, was of course, Max. But, for now, she wasn't interested in joining his cause in the least, and so, he was still very much alone.

That was why he needed to go adventuring when he was of age, to make many friends, and become even stronger, since a person can't truly become strong just by training. He needed experience, and that wasn't something Matthew would be acquiring by sitting here.

As such, he  wasn't interested very much in taking command over the Ankston family. Why would he want such responsibility? It was too much for him. This way, he would have to rule over people, look after them and everything.

Even though, the Ankston family was declining over these past few years, they still owned much land, as well as villages. And so, under Matthew, there would be around 1000 people he needed to rule over.

Yes, that was until his father, either passes off, or becomes very old, like in his eighties, or nineties, and that was a long time in the future. Still, Matthew needed to rule at that point.

'Hmm! Now that I think about it, by that point, I should have already achieved my goal, right? So, then, I could very much do it! Of course, I still don't want this burden, but I can handle it at that point, since I would have already achieved my goal by then!'.

The day ended after that. Dunken and his father left in a hurry, as they were very angry with the result. The other uncles and aunts, stayed until dinner. Matthew had a lot of time to get to know his other two cousins'. It ended up being a lot of fun, as he showed them some magical tricks he knew.

He played it as though those were real magic as well, which really left a big impression on them. Until, Olivia told them the truth. She had also been fooled by him before, until her mother told her while laughing.

That made her so angry, she didn't speak to Matthew for the rest of the day. Now, she finally had her revenge on her older brother, as she watched the two girls get quite angry while the nine-year-old tried to explain while laughing in awkwardness.

With that, the day had already been over. The day when, Matthew Ankston, was dubbed the next in ruling the noble family called, Ankston!

A few days later, Matthew woke up in the morning as usual, today, he had no training, and instead, it was more like a vacation day for him.

'Haah! Finally, I get to relax a little, it's been over two years now! I had to train my magic every day. Even when I didn't do so, there were other stuff to do. But, not today!'.

He had asked his father yesterday, to let him take a day off tomorrow, since he had been working none stop all this while, and Nero agreed to give him this day as a gift for his excellent show in the tests he took to win the position of the heir.

'Okay! I want to take a look outside the mansion for once, I've barely traveled to the Cavias family mansion in a carriage, so, for an entire month, I have been here! Well, not like it was any better in the orphanage, I rarely got to go out there as well!'.

'Hmm! But, if I do go out, what should I do? I have no idea! I guess just take a look around the city! Yeah, that would be enough for me!'. With that, Matthew had made up his mind, and so, he went to his father.

"No! Either you take Gleeward with you, or you stay at home today! Is that understood?", was the reply he got from Nero Ankston. 'Hah! What did I expect, I am the heir to the family after all, so I guess this makes sense?'.

'But, I don't want to attract attention, not really! Ahh! Okay, or... Hah! Hahaha!'. An idea came to his mind at this moment, making him look at his father for a second. He gave it some thought, and nodded to himself, before saying, "Okay! I won't go out today, I will stay at my room and read a book. Can I borrow the one you were reading when I first came here?".

"You mean, the one that talks about the lost age?", asked Nero. Matthew nodded, and heard his father say, "Okay! You can take it, but return it to me at night, I haven't been able to finish it yet, since I've been so busy with another village attack by... Ah!", Nero stopped after that.

He then said, "Sorry for talking about that in front of you!". But, Matthew smiled and said, "It doesn't bother me, actually, I would like to stay informed about everything they are doing, can I come over later, so we can speak about it?".

Nero nodded, and said, "Yeah! Anyway, have a good time reading the book, I will keep your sister away from you, so you can enjoy reading!". Matthew chuckled a little, then smiled and said, "Thanks!".

With that, the nine-year-old left the office. Gleeward, the Chief of Guards was there at the moment, he smiled, as he said, "You know what he will try to do, right?". Nero smiled as well, and replied, "Keep an eye on him in the shadows!".

Matthew shut the door of his room behind him, before he then opened the window, and smiled. With some techniques he had learned at the orphanage from Max, he descended from the height of one floor, onto the next, without taking even one injury.

Once his feet hit the ground, he looked around, and found that no one was guarding the backyard section of the mansion. He quickly made his way to the gigantic wall, it was only three meters tall, but for a small boy like him, it was truly gigantic.

'Hah! Great that Air is my main type in magic, and that teacher taught me this spell, Levitating!'. Matthew gathered a small amount of the crackling One Power beside him, and, quickly turned it into wind.

The wind was so strong it made him float a little in the air, with a bit of controlling from the nine-year-old, he passed above the wall, and was put on the ground swiftly. From behind a tree nearby, someone was hiding.

It was Gleeward, the Chief of Guards at the main mansion of the Ankston family. His eyes shined, as he was very impressed with this young boy. He followed behind without making the boy the least bit suspicious.

The boy then continued forward, running at a moderate pace, and looking behind him from time to time, to make sure no one was following behind him, but, even with that, he never noticed, that there was indeed, someone who was following after him all this while.

Soon after, he was quite far from where the mansion of the Ankston family was. Here, he saw many people walking around, there were many buildings everywhere. Many of them were about three floors high or so.

Matthew had worn his clothes from the orphanage, the ones that looked like they belonged to a medium class commoner, or even a very lowly noble. He walked on the streets alone, as he took a look around. He was very much surprised by how noisy it was.

Even when he had heard it before, he didn't imagine that it would be times higher when he was inside the crowd of walking people. He continued walking, until he stopped, as he saw a young boy like him being beaten by other young boys.

The young boy that was being hit at the moment, looked to be about 9, or 10 years old. He wore very expensive looking clothes, they appeared to belong to a very high noble family, and they even had a sigil inscribed on the shoulder.

'This is... the tiger emblem, that means he's from the Charlton family! One of the highest ranking noble families in Coupitia city! What is he doing here alone, hah! No way, did he also sneak out like me! But, he's getting robed, it's funny how no one is reacting!'.

'I guess those boys must be from a gang or something, otherwise, helping a noble family means gaining their favor, who wouldn't want something like that? Anyway, it's time for me to arrive and save the day!'.

The other boys looked to be a bit older, at around 12, to maybe 15 years old. Matthew smiled, as he walked toward them, he started clapping his hands together, which immediately got him noticed by the group.

The group was off to the side of the way, close to the entrance of an alleyway. The group of three kids beating up the 9 or so years old boy, raised their heads, and turned to look at however was clapping his hands, and advancing toward them at the moment.

After they saw Matthew, they started laughing. One of them said, "Hey, boy! Do you want to be hurt as well? Just get out of here before we change our mind, and take your money as well!".

"Oho! So you speak just like bandits do? Okay, and I thought I might be dealing with some intelligent people, I guess you're just animals after all, very sad to hear that! Anyway, would you like to be beaten up for a change?", said Matthew, as he stopped clapping his hands together, and flashed the three boys a devilish smile.

One of the boys advanced further toward Matthew, as he smiled and said, "What did you just say?". This one looked like he was the weakest of the three, as well as the most arrogant of the bunch.

The other two stopped beating the young noble boy, and watched what was going to happen. The boy that was being beaten up all this while, raised his head, and looked at what was happening as well.

Matthew smiled, and used Gust of Wind. He had grown accustomed to using this spell a lot over these past two years, he liked to start his fights by making his opponents lose balance and fall on the ground.

The kid that was advancing toward Matthew immediately felt something invisible pushing him, and in the next second, he found himself on the ground. He was very shocked, as he looked at the creepy boy who started approaching him.

"What...what did you do? You didn't even touch me!", the boy who was on the ground started trembling a little. At this moment, everyone heard the young boy that was being beaten up only a minute before say, "He used... Magic!".

It seemed like the boy himself couldn't believe what he said, the two kids beside him smiled, and started laughing, "Hahah! Magic? Really? This young boy here? Martin only tripped over, so don't try and scare us like that!".

'I am sure I didn't trip over, I felt something pushing me down, so, did he really... Hah!', Martin's thoughts were cut short, when he saw Matthew summon a black sword from nothing.

The other two boys' expression's darkened as well, as they started screaming from fear. 'Dammit! Now, there is no way father won't know that I snuck off on my own!', thought Matthew as he sighed.

He didn't know that his father already knew, and had even sent a guard following behind him. Gleeward watched what was happening with interest, as he let out a small smile.
