Chapter 55: What?

Red eyes looked at him, making him feel scared. Of course, he would feel like that, after all, he was looking at him, at the Shadow Assassin! The evilest person, the assassin was known for being one of the best in the world.

A person that was supposed to be as strong as an eight-star from the Black Tower. Not even the Fierce Lion, no, not even the King's Power could move in his presence, and, that scary, and strong person, was here at the moment.

'Why? Why...is he, here? Is it really him? It can't be, right? why is he looking at me?', thought the nine-year-old, as he took a step back, feeling shivers running down his spine. The Shadow Assassin had turned his head to look at him.

And he had been focusing on him for a while now. That person, then, took his black katana out of the muscular man's body, and he let his body drop to the ground. Asvin got up from his place, and took his red sword, his mind was completely turned off, he couldn't believe it, and who would?

Asvin gulped, as he said, in a low tone, as he was very scared, "Are you, the Shadow Assassin?". The man with two black swords, looked at him, his red eyes -Which were part of the mask, and supposedly let him see-gaze at him carefully.

The man then said, in a cold voice, as he gave a simple response, "Yes!". Asvin felt his body give out, he couldn't keep himself standing, while Matthew only looked on in a daze, and both of them couldn't move.

Max, was still inside the room, she hadn't come out, so, she didn't know what was happening at the moment. The Shadow Assassin, then said, "Why are you two here?".

Matthew couldn't respond, he felt his throat dry, instead, he just waited for the young man to reply. Asvin also felt unable to respond, but, since he was asked, by such a person, he had no choice, and so, he said.

"Ah! We, we were here to save a girl, I had to fight this guy, while the kid there fought with the man inside, you can check, the girl is there!". Asvin wanted to ask what the Shadow Assassin was doing here, but obviously, he couldn't, not since he could barely speak.

The Shadow Assassin nodded, as he said, "You're Asvin, right? Your father, how is he doing?". Asvin only looked at the man, and after a few seconds passed, he said, "He's, he's alright!".

The Shadow Assassin nodded again, after which, he spoke and said, "And you're from the Ankston family, is the Beast doing okay?". Asvin looked at the man with two black swords, and he said, "You...you know him?".

The Shadow Assassin nodded his head again and waited for Matthew to answer. 'The Beast? Does he mean Sir Gleeward? Just like big brother Vin said, does he know him? I mean, they were both at the Court of Saviors, so it isn't super weird!'.

Matthew opened his mouth, as he had finally gathered enough courage to speak, "He's, he's doing alright, amm! If, if you don't mind me asking, what are you doing here, mister Shadow Assassin?".

The Shadow Assassin looked at Matthew for a moment, after which, he laughed. That laugh, made both Matthew and Asvin feel like this was the end, 'Why did I ask, I probably shouldn't have asked him, now, not even the King's Power can save us!'.

Still, what they heard, made them both relax, but also feel shocked at the same time, the Shadow Assassin said, after he laughed for a few seconds, "I am just passing by, I had a job to do, but you two took care of it, for that, you have my thanks!".

'Hah! What did he just say? Thanks? What does he mean by that? Why would he thank us? We took care of his job? What does he mean by that? No way, he doesn't mean he was coming to kill this bastard noble? But why?', Matthew couldn't figure out much.

Still, before he could ask again, he heard the Shadow Assassin sigh, and say, "So, you're here, han? What did I teach you many times? I can still feel your presence, so just show yourself!".

'Who does he...', before the young boy could continue that train of thought, a man appeared from nowhere. This man also wore adventurer clothes, and he too had a weird mask on, only, this one resembled a lion, and it was black as well.

Asvin immediately recognized him, while it took Matthew a few seconds to do so. It was, the Black Lion.

The guy that just appeared, said to the man with two black swords, "Why are you here, mas...no, not anymore, Shadow Assassin!". The Shadow Assassin let out a small sigh, as he answered, "Well, that does not matter, your lord and this young boy, have already taken care of it!".

The Black Lion, took one look at Asvin, then at Matthew, as he said, "You haven't changed then? What is the organization you created about? At least give me a name!". But, the man with two black swords, shook his head slightly, and said, "No, not now, I still need more time but don't worry, in a few years, you should be familiar with it!".

"Anyway, I have to go now, take good care of them, will you, and, what is your name, young boy?". Matthew gulped, as he responded with, "Matthew Ankston!". The Shadow Assassin turned around, and said, "I will make sure to remember it, you remind me of a certain someone, though he's talented in something else!".

"Take good care of that talent, and you shall reach the true heights of this world, I wish you good luck!", with that, the man with two black swords -one long, and the other short - The man with a dog mask, and red eyes, the Shadow Assassin, disappeared.

Not even Asvin could see a thing, 'Hah! I still can't see him, I guess I have a long way to reach his level!', thought The Black Lion. With that, he turned to look at Asvin, and said, "Young master, let us go back to your father, you too, lord Ankston!".

Matthew was still dazed, he couldn't believe that he had just met Him, the Shadow Assassin, a man known throughout the three continents, a man respected by both of the strongest assassin organizations, the Crows of Death, and the Ashai tribe.

Still, he then remembered something more important, as he made his way back inside, he found Max on her knees crying by herself, she was sad, angry, and just confused about what to do. Matthew hugged her, as he said, "You're safe now!".

Outside, Asvin could only look in a daze at the Black Lion, as he said, "You, you called him master, what does that mean? Were you, were you his student? To be honest, I don't know who you are, and I pretty much know nothing about you!".

"Is this part of the reason? Tell me, why was he here, why did he save me?", asked Asvin in a loud and angry voice, he didn't know what to think anymore, why would such an assassin save him, why would he say that his mission was to kill this exact noble?

But, the Black Lion didn't answer, instead, he said, "Young lord, ask your father, not me! Now, let us go back, I will use force if you don't comply!". Asvin blinked as he was shocked, but, he knew that this wasn't the place to talk, otherwise, they would be linked to the murder.

'Dammit! If only I was stronger, he wouldn't be able to say this to me, dammit! Why was that guy here? I still can't make sense of it, anyway, he's right, we have to leave!'.

Asvin made his way into the room, and he said, "Okay, let us go back now, shall we?". Matthew and Max both nodded, the nine-year-old, and the 16-year-old held hands and made their way outside.

The Black Lion threw a small black ball inside the room, which exploded into dark dust, he said, "This is to avoid being linked to what happened here!". He then did the same thing outside.

Asvin gulped as he said, "But, there is still one guy who saw us, will that be alright?". Unfortunately, he wasn't ready for what the Black Lion said, "I took care of that already!".

Asvin could only look at the man before him, he didn't know what to say, so, he just kept his silence, as they made their way back.
