Daniel just nodded at her before he turned around and gave his father a brief hug.
"Let me prepare some snacks for you, wait here.", Mrs. Cho patted her son's back before she left the gazebo and entered the house.
"How are you, Dad?", he asked when he sat beside his father on the outdoor sofa.
Mr. Cho nodded his head and gave a slight smile, "I'm good. I have slowly gotten back to my morning routine exercise so I'm doing well. I also started going to dance lessons with your mom."
"Well, you shouldn't tire yourself. Take it easy.", he suggested.
"You're father's a champ. I'm sure he will be okay as long as he keeps a healthy lifestyle.", Dr. Devyn Nam added.
Just then, the butler approached, he came over to Mr. Cho's side and whispered something to his ear.
"Ah, is that so?", Mr. Cho responded. He carefully stood up and turned to Daniel and his doctor, "I have a phone call that I need to take. I'll leave you guys first.", he said before he turned around and left with the butler.
Daniel and Devyn were now alone in the gazebo. He stood up from the sofa and walked over to the other side where there's a view of a koi pond, Devyn followed him behind.
"What exactly are you doing here?", he asked when he noticed her presence.
She smiled slightly and leaned on the railing, "I am your father's doctor, Daniel. I'm here to help him recuperate."
"Why don't I believe you one bit?", he questioned.
Devyn glanced at the handsome man on her right and stifled a laugh, "Why? Were you expecting a different answer?", she turned to face him, "Did you want me to say… that I came here because of you?"
Daniel felt uncomfortable with Devyn Nam's response, he looked at her briefly with a glare before he returned his stare at the beautiful fishes in the pond.
She chortled, "You are still the same, Daniel Cho. Or shall I call you… Swift?"
Seconds had passed but Daniel didn't answer. Devyn glanced at him again and continued,
"Actually, now that you have matured… you look even more… appealing. It's been several years since I have last seen you, and I gotta say… I find you more attractive than before.", Devyn Nam's voice was very seductive as she tried to emphasize her words but it didn't have any effect on Daniel as he only found her irritating.
Seeing that Daniel didn't respond to her, she added, "I'm surprised that you are in a relationship with that woman. She doesn't seem like your type."
As always, when it comes to Samantha, Daniel wouldn't let anything pass. He scoffed, "You say that as if you know me so well, Dr. Nam. Don't you talk about her like that."
With a sly smile, she knew that she had pushed a button somewhere. She moved closer to him and very slowly, she spoke, "Of course I know you so well, Daniel. I know everything that I need to know about you… including your deepest… darkest… secret."
Daniel stiffened when he heard her but he didn't respond. How he wishes that he could-
"Do you know the difference between me and your woman?", she asked and Daniel turned to face her, his expression dark.
"Even though I know about your dark side, I don't care. I actually like it. Dangerous men are very attractive to me, Daniel. And amongst those whom I know… you're my favorite."
Devyn's hand moved closer to Daniel's, "Now tell me, how do you think your woman would react once she knows about the real you? A woman like her… I don't think she can handle someone like you."
"When she finds out, do you think… she will still love you like I could?", her hand had just touched Daniel's but he quickly caught it.
Gripping her hand hard, he looked at her in the eyes with a menacing stare. His voice was low and dangerously sharp that it could cut wind as he warned, "Don't provoke me."
"Aah! That hurts!", she winced in pain. She tried to pull her hand from his grasp but Daniel's grip was preventing her.
"If you really know who I am, you should be smart enough not to taunt me.", he squeezed her hand tighter and she flinched.
"You say that you know me so well, then I'm sure that you know what I'm capable of. So if you value your life so much Dr. Nam, stay away from my family.", he added before he released her hand.
Devyn Nam suddenly felt threatened as Daniel actually frightened her. She rubbed her hand to ease the pain as she watched Daniel turned his back on her.
"This will be your last day as my father's doctor. We will no longer be requiring your service.", he firmly announced before he took out his phone and called his assistant.
As soon as Assistant Ahn picked up, he ordered, "Find me the best cardiologist as soon as possible. I don't care how much-"
His voice was getting fainter as he left the gazebo, leaving Devyn Nam feeling distressed. She didn't expect Daniel's reaction earlier as she didn't believe that his feelings for Samantha were that deep.
Gritting her teeth, she was even more determined to take Daniel away from Samantha. No matter what it takes, she will definitely find a way. After all, she believed that she was the only one who was capable enough and the only one who can truly accept Daniel's dark side and his past.
A wicked smile appeared on her face as she muttered to herself, "You can't get rid of me that easily, Daniel Cho."
