Samantha picked up the envelope from the table and read the card found inside. The reunion will be in a few days and the venue on the card put a smile on her face, as it will be held at a beach resort. It will be a two-days and one-night celebration so everyone was expected to stay there overnight. After giving it some thought, Samantha placed the envelope back on the table.
"I'll think about it." She responded and Hannah just nodded.
Her thoughts drifted back to when they were in high school, Samantha had always been just with Hannah. And if her best friend wasn't around, she just kept to herself and not bother with anyone else.
Just like how she was in middle school after her transfer, she decided to maintain an average grade. She believed that as long as she stayed 'normal', she won't attract that much attention.
Unfortunately, even if she did that, a lot of teen girls were still quite jealous of her. Samantha always wore her clothes neatly even if they weren't as expensive as Hannah's usual clothes. If their classmates didn't know that she was the young miss of Kimsun Electronics, they would think that she came from an average family.
And this was one of the things that they didn't understand about her because her family can clearly afford more beautiful and more expensive clothes but why was she wearing lesser ones? Some had even started to speculate that maybe... there was a mystery about her birth.
Hannah would always wear pretty dresses while Samantha would rarely wear dresses and just resort to jeans, shirt, and sneakers. When they were wearing uniforms, she kept a bare minimum appearance with no makeup or any pieces of jewelry on; even her school bag was plain.
But what she deliberately did, only attracted more eyes from the guys. They found her mysterious and refreshing compared to other girls in school who were always just showing off their family's wealth. And so because of that, they still noticed her despite her trying to be 'normal'.
Her neatly combed hair that always went past her shoulders, fell on the right places and bounced when she walked. Her fair and flawless skin seemed like she had not been exposed to the sun yet she still looked radiant with her rosy cheeks and pink lips. Although she wasn't specifically smiling at anyone, her resting face was very pleasant making her look more feminine and lovely. She wasn't a fan of wearing makeups despite Hannah's attempt to let her wear even just a lip gloss.
And Samantha was always seated beside the window. The young men in their classroom were always drawn to her as her appearance and behavior emanated a mysterious air. She had no drama or no complaints and the young men liked her even more.
There was one time that one of them was brave enough to try and talk to her. His name was Oliver Su and boy was he hot. He was actually the school's prince charming and the girls fawned over him like he was a god.
Oliver was the young master of the Su Group and he exuded a grace of royalty, but he was nowhere near as charismatic as Daniel Cho, of course. Even so, with his looks and background, he held the highest rank of the male students that girls wanted to date back in high school.
"Hi, Samantha." Oliver greeted as he sat down on the empty chair beside her, observing her as he thought of what they were going to do when she agreed to go out with him.
She glanced over at him and gave a weak smile, "Hello." She wasn't even affected by the bright smile that Oliver gave her. If it were any other girl, Oliver would have gotten more than just a hello and an indifferent attitude.
His brows slightly lifted as he did not expect to have that reaction from her but he still went on and asked her out, showing his handsome smile, "Will you go out on a date with me?"
She stared into his eyes and without hesitation, she flatly spoke, "I appreciate it. But… No, thank you." She opened her book and started to read silently.
Oliver felt like he was hit by a huge slap on his face with her rejection. He couldn't believe that he was told 'No'! He was Oliver Su!
Their classmates who were watching them the entire time since Oliver decided to sit next to her, didn't know whether to laugh or cry. A few of Oliver's friends snickered as they thought it was hilarious that he was turned down.
Was Samantha an idiot? The school prince had just asked her out but she declined like he was no one special. And also, it was the first time that Oliver had asked someone out in front of a lot of people. He was actually feeling confident about himself but then he got rejected.
Growing up with a silver spoon in his mouth, Oliver had never experienced rejection from anyone. He was always arrogant and acted like he was very special as everyone around him were always nice to him.
Not only was he embarrassed, but he also felt very bitter about Samantha. He swore that he wasn't going to forget that rejection.
While the boys were having a laugh, the girls, on the other hand, were feeling very sour about what just happened. They hated Samantha for how she was and they hated her more for doing that to their school prince.
While they didn't particularly like that she was asked out by Oliver Su, and would probably also hate her if she had said yes, they didn't like that their prince charming was humiliated in front of everyone.
And because of that incident, she was even more talked about in the entire school. She couldn't escape being the talk of the town, whether she was going to say yes or no.
Hannah knew that Samantha didn't like their classmates and as much as she wanted to defend her all the time when they were talking behind her back, Samantha would just stop her and tell her not to get involved as she might also become the target. It was frustrating for Hannah.

Samantha hadn't seen her high school classmates for years and she wasn't even looking forward to it. But with everything that was happening to her lately, she thought that maybe a one-night beach getaway will be a good thing. Hannah was going to be with there with her, it wasn't like she was going to attend the event alone. So why should she worry? She could just go and enjoy being away from the city and distress.
Thinking that there was no harm in it, she agreed to go with her best friend. "How about we go shopping the day after tomorrow?"
Hannah raised a brow, unsure why her best friend would suddenly propose a shopping spree.
"We do need clothes for this reunion, right?" Samantha asked.
Hannah beamed at her and clapped her hands, "You are awesome! Of course! I know exactly what to get for us. I can't wait!"
