Samantha scanned the parking lot to make sure no one saw them as Philip carried Devyn and placed her at the backseat of the car.

What she did not know was that Logan followed her since they left that morning by Daniel's orders. So as soon as he noticed that there was a black car following them, he had already alerted his boss.

Just a couple of minutes earlier, Daniel was on the phone with Logan while everything transpired. "Shit-" He cursed when he noticed a figure approaching Samantha from the back. He immediately opened the car door so that he could get to them in time.

"What's happening?" Daniel worried from the other end of the call.

But before Logan could get out of the car, he noticed Philip was actually sneaking his way to catch the figure. The line fell silent, making Daniel extremely anxious over the phone as he tried to listen for some clues until he heard Logan snicker.

"Logan." Daniel's threatening voice brought Logan back to earth.

Clearing his throat, he replied, "Boss, you will not believe what just happened."

And so, Logan told Daniel about the scene at the parking lot in a very detailed manner. "Your woman sure is full of surprises."

The corner of Daniel's mouth slightly raised and Samantha's image flashed before him, making him feel proud despite being worried at the same time.

"Their car is leaving."

"Follow them," Daniel ordered while he grabbed his coat and headed out of his office.

In the car, Samantha kept glancing at the woman who was tied up in the backseat. She took out her phone and thanked God that she had asked Philip to get her a new one that morning. She found it extremely hard not to have anything to use to contact anyone.

When the screen opened, she naturally dialed Daniel's phone number that she had long memorized. However, she did not press the call button. Her finger hovered over that green circle yet she did not know why but somehow, she felt that calling him was not a good idea.

She recalled that when he called Hannah back then, he had used a burner phone probably so that the line would not be traced and so now that she wanted to call him, she had second thoughts. 'What if it was not safe? What if calling him…'

Before she could finish her thoughts, she had already cleared the dial pad and instead, she took out a card from her purse and dialed the number written on it.

As soon as her call was picked up, she spoke to the person on the other line, "Hi… this is Samantha Kim. I need your help."

The phone call lasted for only about a minute before Samantha instructed Philip to drive to a particular location. She glanced at the backseat and saw that Devyn was still unconscious.

And thus, Philip drove them towards the outskirts of the city until they reached a restaurant where a man had greeted them outside when they arrived.

"Samantha, it's so good to see you again!" The man welcomed her and offered his hand.

Seeing the familiar face, Samantha could not help but feel relief. "Sean… thank you for doing this favor." Samantha shook hands with Daniel's friend with a smile. She remembered when Daniel brought her to his restaurant back then. Daniel had even told her about Sean's background when he confessed his dark past to her but for some reason, she did not feel scared meeting him at all.

"Nonsense, we're already family. Naturally, I would do this for you. Tell me what's the situation?" Sean asked as if it was not a big deal at all.

Samantha who was obviously new to the whole thing swallowed and gestured her hand. "I think it's better if I show you." She got a little nervous as she walked back towards their car.

"Very well." Sean followed her and waited when Samantha opened the backseat. He was not aware of what she had done since their phone call was very brief and she did not tell him any details.

When he saw the woman who was knocked out cold, Sean let out a whistle before a sly smile formed on his face. He did not know why but he felt a sense of pride when he looked at Samantha. Though she was not his woman, seeing how they caught Devyn easily even after so many attempts from his men to locate her, he felt that Samantha was not a simple woman. Truly a befitting match for his friend Daniel.

What he did not know was that Samantha was just smart and lucky at the same time.

"Boys," Sean slightly tilted his head on the side. "Haul this one out and bring her downstairs."

Quickly, a few of Sean's men took out Devyn who was still unconscious and then brought her towards the basement.

"How did you manage to capture her?" Sean curiously asked as he walked with Samantha by his side.

"That's... not important." Samantha bit her lip. "What shall we do with her now?"

"Why don't we wait for Daniel to arrive?"

Her brows furrowed when she heard, "You called him?"

"Hmmm? No, actually… he called me saying that he was on his way here. Ah… speaking of the devil." Sean nodded his head towards the Range Rover that just pulled up.

"Huh?"

Turning her head to the side, Samantha saw Daniel in a dark blue suit, getting off the vehicle and walking towards them.

It had just been last night since she last saw him but it seemed like forever for her.

The two friends greeted each other in a man hug and Samantha expected that he was going to scold her but instead, Daniel only looked at her for a brief couple of seconds before he walked past her.

Samantha's heart raced when she saw how icy his glare was at her. She did not like the feeling at all. It felt like she was suppressed and could not move from where she was standing. She remained frozen until Philip called her.

What kind of look was that? Was he mad at her? If he was, she would prefer that he scold her instead of ignoring her.

"Ms. Kim? Shall we?" Philip escorted her as they went to the basement.

Samantha could not believe what she had just experienced from Daniel. It was the first time that he looked at her like that. Has he always been that cold?

When they arrived at the basement, Samantha looked around and noticed how dingy it was. She felt that it was kind of eerie to stay in that place. Not more than a few steps later, Daniel turned to her and with a fierce look on his face, he told her, "Go home, Sam."

"What?"

"This isn't a place for you to stay, you need to go." Daniel's voice was still somehow gentle, it was just the way that he looked at her that made her feel nervous.

"And why not? Because I'm a woman?"

Daniel's brow jerked when he heard her question. He just did not want her to see whatever they were planning to do to Devyn later when they 'question' her. He wanted to spare her such an unsightly scene. Turning to Philip, he said, "Take her home."

Furrowing her brows, she did not like that she was being chased away. "I will stay." She insisted.

Philip was conflicted. He knew that they were going to torture that woman and that Daniel just wanted to protect her boss but who was he going to listen to?
