While Samantha was still sleeping very early in the morning, Daniel arrived at the Kim's family estate. When he got inside, he slipped in Samantha's bedroom as soon as he could, checked on his sleeping son and then laid down next to her. There was nothing else that he wanted to do other than be with them the moment that he landed in the country.
Samantha laid on Daniel's left arm and allowed him to wrap it around her. She gently placed her hand on his shoulder and her teary eyes now smiled, realizing that she was not dreaming after all. His warmth, his scent… his everything. She relished the feeling that she had in her heart, she was now happy... as if all her worries from the previous days did not exist at all.
Daniel also felt bad for letting her go through it but because of their situation in Country C, it wasn't very convenient for him — which was why they chose to quickly settle things so that they could all go home.
Now that he was finally with her, knowing that they were already safe and that Yanovich was dead, Daniel's heart was finally at peace. He pressed his lips on Samantha's forehead for a long time and tightened his arm around her. "It's over now…"
His cool and familiar kiss made Samantha comfortable. She closed her eyes as she snuggled into him some more, careful that she won't hurt his injured arm.
Although Samantha did not know what happened yet but hearing the words from him, she was very much elated. Did it mean that they can finally be together now? Did it mean that no harm will come to their family anymore?
Whatever it is, Samantha believed that as long as she was with Daniel and Ashton, she was already satisfied. She opened her eyes once more and couldn't help but worry about his shoulder. "How did you get that?"
"Got caught up during the attack." Daniel then told her how he got the gunshot wound while they ambushed Yanovich' safe house.
"Does it hurt?" She raised her head, the sadness in her eyes was evident.
Looking down at her, Daniel saw Samantha's gaze and thought that everything was worth it... that everything he endured during those times was nothing. "Just a little bit. I'm okay." He formed a small smile.
"I don't like it when you get hurt." As if she could physically feel the pain, Samantha grimaced. She swore that she could feel it in her heart. Sometimes, she feels that she didn't deserve a man like Daniel.
He stroked her back gently. "I'm sorry… I wasn't careful."
"Tch." She scoffed… as if he had total control over what happened.
Just then, they heard a faint sound of Ashton's moan from his crib which was placed at the corner of Samantha's room. "The little potato's awake," she said with a grin.
"Why do you call my son potato?" His brows knitted a little as he wondered.
She looked at the crib from where she laid and a smile danced on her lips as she recalled the first time that she saw her son. "Well... because when I gave birth to him, he was so small and round. He was sleeping and he looked like a potato wrapped in cloth."
Daniel chuckled at her explanation. How he wished that he could have seen him like that.
Noticing the look on Daniel's face, Samantha knew what he was thinking at that moment. She felt a slight prick in her heart and she still hated herself for that... Time was precious and she knew that she could never bring that back. But for now, it was time to give Ashton his milk.
She got out of bed and Daniel immediately reacted. "Where are you going?" His arm felt light and cold without her.
Grinning, Samantha went over to Ashton's crib and picked him up. "Your son's hungry. I need to feed him."
"Hello, sweetheart... I missed you so much. Did you have a good sleep? Huh?" She kissed him everywhere it made him giggle. "You're getting heavier."
She went back to bed and sat next to Daniel who was then on his side, half sitting as he looked at his son. He wanted to carry him but because of his injury, he couldn't at that moment so he just played with Ashton's hand instead. "Hey, little guy... You look like you've grown since a few days ago." He brought Ashton's little hand to his lips. Daniel was already in love with him.
"Yeah, he grows up so fast. I'm afraid he'll leave me to marry soon." Samantha pouted.
Daniel threw his head back, Samantha's exaggeration was really amusing to him. "Then we should make some more… that way you won't feel so lonely."
Samantha looked at him as soon as his words left his mouth. Though she did not say anything, the blush on her cheeks was already enough for Daniel to form a smirk on his handsome face.
She bit her lip as she tried to keep herself from smiling while she returned his gaze. The two did not speak for a while but their eyes seemed to already have been conversing.
…
Later that morning, Daniel visited Samantha's father in his study to talk to him. When Father Kim knew about Daniel's arrival that day, he had already deduced what he was going to tell him.
"Sit." Father Cho gestured Daniel to sit in the armchair.
Compared to the last time that Daniel was there, the atmosphere in Father Cho's study had a more calming vibe.
Father Kim went to the shelf and poured two glasses of the limited-edition whiskey that Daniel gave him a few years ago. He gave one glass to Daniel before he sat down next to him.
"It's good to see you again, son." Father Kim raised his glass and Daniel did the same as the two of them exchanged smiles.
Daniel and Father Kim talked for a couple of hours before the former came out of the study with a smile on his face.
Samantha had already finished bathing Ashton and they were outside the garden to play with Mother Kim.
By the time that he reached the foyer, Samantha had already noticed him standing there so she turned to her mother and said, "Mom, can you watch Ashy for me? I need to talk to Daniel."
"Sure, sweetheart. Take all the time that you need. I can take care of my grandson, don't worry."
When Samantha came to his side, Daniel took her hand in his and walked out of the house. "I can't drive for now…" He raised his injured arm slightly and continued, "Can you drive for us?"
"Sure.. but where do you want to go?"
A knowing smile flashed across his face, giving Samantha the hint of where to take him.
Soon enough, they arrived at the one place that they had always loved for a few years now.
With their toes in the sand, the couple walked along the shore of the beach that was beside the Cliffside Villa. It had been almost two years since the last time that Samantha had been there and to her surprise, it was still like before – calm, peaceful and private.
She loved the place and it was just so perfect to share with the man he loved the most.
Finding a spot on the shore, they sat down and leaned on each other as they enjoyed the nice weather and admired the view of the vast sea before them
Draping his arm around her, he kissed the top of her head. "It's good to be home."
