"So... are you going to tell me what happened?" Samantha looked at him, waiting for his story.
"Do you really want to know? It's not very interesting..."
Shrugging, Samantha wasn't really sure if she wanted to know the details but she felt that if she was at least aware of what happened, she'd feel safer knowing that everything was really over.
...
Yanovich's safehouse was a mansion in the middle of a forest. It had a lot of rooms inside and had probably a lot of his men all over too. Therefore going inside and capturing him was going to be challenging.
Daniel and the team managed to reach the area around the safe house and with his command, he raised his right hand to signal the team. "Go!" The whole group swiftly invaded Yanovich' safehouse.
They started firing their guns towards Lavro's men and the whole place turned chaotic in a span of ten seconds as soon as they came in.
The smell of gun powder mixed with blood and testosterone of the raging men inside the house filled the air.
Although Daniel had a gun with him and was also quite capable of using one, he preferred hand to hand combat. With his agility and superb skills in grappling and martial arts, he was able to expertly attack and defend himself as he pushed forward to look for Lavro Yanovich.
Since they had entered the safehouse a couple of minutes ago, Lavro's men kept coming towards them from all directions, he was aware that it was crucial to find Lavro as soon as possible to prevent him from escaping.
Daniel continued to go towards the middle of the house, fighting men head to head while he was on his way.
A man with a knife came rushing from behind him while he was busy tackling another one on the ground.
A kick from Gael sent the man with the knife flying to the side, catching Daniel's attention just as he knocked one down. Daniel turned to Gael and muttered, "Thanks," before the two of them headed upstairs.
Not wasting any more time, they opened the first door on the right and stopped in their tracks when they found a woman whom they have just seen last night was now already dead on the floor with a bullet in her head, laying on her own pool of blood.
Metallic stench reached their noses yet they seemed not bothered by it even with the unpleasant sight on the floor.
Devyn Nam died in the hands of Lavro Yanovich.
~Before Daniel's team invaded his safehouse, Lavro went back to see Devyn's miserable state. She was very badly beaten – full of wounds all over her face and body, she was already unrecognizable.
Just as he was about to walk closer, he heard one of his men shout "We're being ambushed!"
Snapping his head to the side, Lavro's eyes grew wide and without any delay, he grabbed a gun from the closest man, pointed it to Devyn and pulled the trigger without hesitating. The bullet went straight to her head. "Let's leave!" He shouted right after.
The woman who was almost dead after being beaten up was now lifeless after Lavro's shot. After all the torture that she experienced, Devyn died from a gunshot wound.
Lavro ran with the help of his men towards their escape while gunshots started blazing from the first floor.~~~
"Let's split up and cover more grounds," Daniel ordered the men around him and immediately, he started checking every door that he found, defending himself whenever he encountered Yanovich' men.
Just as he was about to reach the end of the hall, he noticed some movements on the opposite end, making him turn towards it.
And there he was, the old man Lavro Yanovich staring back at him with a malicious smile on his face. He was all by himself, looking proud and confident with a gun in his hand.
"You've finally shown your face." Daniel sneered as he looked at the wretched old man. He found it sickening to see him face to face, knowing that he had done a lot of awful things to a lot of people.
"Hello, Daniel Cho. I'm the father of the man you killed!" Lavro raised the gun in his hand and pointed it at Daniel. "And now I'm going to kill you."
Daniel could feel himself burn with rage when he saw him. All of the terrible things that he and his family experienced because of this hateful man standing several meters away from him resurfaced.
His heart was beating erratically when images of Samantha suffering from the poison flashed before him. Though she had survived the poison, what scared him was the present; it wouldn't only be Samantha… there was also his son Ashton… his family.
There was no way that he could allow Lavro Yanovich to live anymore.
Feeling resolute, Daniel clenched his hand. "Not if I kill you first." Daniel rushed forward and took out the glock from his holster. However, before he could even point and pull the trigger, Gael suddenly appeared from the side blocking his view and catching Lavro's sight.
The old man pointed the gun at Gael instead and pulled the trigger. He didn't even know that it was Gael and just blindly fired a shot.
"Get down!" Daniel shouted.
He managed to push Gael to the side — however, Daniel got hit by the bullet just as he fired a shot towards Yanovich. He fell to the floor, groaning in pain. "Shit." His shirt immediately soaked with blood.
Everything happened so fast that Gael was not sure what exactly transpired until both of them were on the floor.
Gael then looked to the side where Yanovich was but only saw blood on the floor where the old man stood. His heartbeat rose and he was quick to help Daniel up. "Where did you get hit?"
"I'm fine," Daniel pushed himself to get up and ran after the old man. "We need to find him!"
The two of them dashed towards the end of the hall and stopped. At the corner, they were surprised to see Lavro Yanovich limping while his hands were bound. And an extremely sharp knife was pointing at his neck.
"Heh- Look what I caught!" Sean proudly announced with a huge grin on his face.
The old man had a notably glum and pale expression but with Daniel, Gael, and Sean surrounding him, there was nothing else that he could do except surrender.
Breathing out a sigh of relief, Daniel's shoulders relaxed and an arrogant smile formed on his lips. The three of them exchanged satisfied glances.
Because the leader of their clan had been captured, all of Yanovich men had also surrendered.
