Elder Alina brought her to a huge tree house where a lot of people gathered together. They all looked at her when she arrived with one of the elders. Serina just bowed her head at them a little and sat in a corner while looking at the woman who was lying in bed.
"Elder Alina, why did you bring her back here? We have tried our best to chase Michael out of our tribe and now, you actually brought her daughter here. And she's even carrying the spirit of the fire dragon. Do you want history to repeat itself?" one of the men questioned, not bothering to mask his anger and dislike towards Serina at all.
"She's not here to curse anyone. She's not that kind of person."
"Oh? She's not? How do you know?"
"I brought her here because she wanted to lift the curse that her predecessor has lift. Also, she won't be staying here for long so, you don't have to worry about it."
Serina just lowered her head to avoid looking at this people. She didn't want to have any conflict with them like what her deceased auntie did. She didn't want anyone to hate her. 'It turned out, my father and mother didn't leave out of their own volition. They were chased out of the tribe.' Serina thought. 'I felt sorry for my father. Now, there's not even a chance for him to come back because of me.'
Beside her, Elder Alina reached out her hand and gave Serina a gentle pat on her shoulder. "Trust me and your dragon, everything will be fine. One day, they will no longer hate you but revere you instead. They will forever look up to your kindness."
"O-okay." Serina whispered softly. When she raised her head, she found everyone looking scornfully at her. "I…uhh…" She stood up and decided to face them head on. She cannot just cower because she's outnumbered. She didn't do anything wrong. What happened in the past isn't something that she did. She shouldn't be a coward. "I'm here to lift the curse. My father has told me about what happened hundreds of years ago and Elder Alina also informed me about it. I want to make things right. I don't want to be blamed for something that I have never done."
"And how do you plan to do it? When did you just learn about the dragon? How many years have you practiced this skill?"
"Does it matter or does that woman's babies matter more?" Serina answered the question with another question. She has guessed why Elder Alina brought her there. Seeing the woman's bulging tummy, it's obvious that she's pregnant and since it's really big compared to other normal pregnancy, Serina thought that the woman was probably carrying a twin or a triplet.
The other people kept their mouth and just looked away. They knew that they couldn't anything about it. When they learned about the curse, it was already too late. They could no longer prevent it or rewrite it. Brenna will have to give birth to children but they will die in the end – all of them.
They even tried aborting the babies using many herbal decoctions but nothing worked. The babies continued to grow and when it was time to give birth to them, they will die. In the span of two centuries, she got herself pregnant thrice. This is the third time.
"When is her due date?" Serina asked as she walked to the woman's bed. She was sleeping soundly but there were dark circles around her eyes and tearstains on her cheek. "I'll do my best to help her." She touched Brenna's belly and felt the movement of the little children. She felt the life inside the stomach beneath her skin and she saw the curse reacting to her energy. They were like a string of negative films that got tangled altogether and was messing up around the babies. Some of the string of curses were even wringing the neck of the child. "I need to concentrate. Can you guys please leave for a while?"
"I want to stay. She's my wife." A man from the crowd stepped out in front of everyone and faced Serina. "I want to be with her."
"O-okay. Just make sure that you won't make any noise. I don't want to be distracted." Serina asked for candles and some herbs that she needed. Using the candles, she arranged it into a shape that only fire dragons knew. It was unique to them but the purpose was just to do rituals. She lit all of them and stood in the middle.
The man was just watching as Serina started to chant some words that he was both familiar and unfamiliar with. The candle lights flickered and soon, it grew bigger and bigger. The fire was getting bigger but the air didn't feel hot at all. It felt like there was barrier separating everyone from Serina.
"Suzko herensugea naiz. Izaki guztiak makurtuko dira nire aurrean. Eman ditudan gauza guztiak, hartuko ditut." Serina started chanting as she moved closer to the woman who was still lying on the bed, still clueless of what was happening around her. "Bere esku utzi zaitut eta orain deitzera etorri naiz. Suzko herensugearen izenaz, itzultzen zaitut niregana." Serina mumbled as she placed her hand on Brenna's stomach. She repeated this chant again and again while slowly getting ride of the curse from the woman.
Unbeknownst to her, the firedragon crest that was on the woman's left arm was slowly fading but not all of them. At the same time, on Serina's left arm, another incomplete tattoo appeared.
She continued to chant but because of so many years that this curse had stayed in the woman's body, it's difficult to get rid of it in one go. She was expending too much of her energy but she felt that not even ten percent of the curse was lifted. Her eyes were becoming bleary and she her arms were becoming numb. It felt like something heavy was clinging to her left arm and she was having a hard time lifting her arm.
In the end, the fire inside the room was extinguished and she collapsed on the floor. It was the first time that she felt so tired in her whole life.
When Serina woke up, she was already back in her dormitory. It felt like she was having a dream but Elder Alina confirmed that it was real.
"How are you feeling?"
"I'm okay now but I couldn't completely get rid of the curse. It was exhausting."
"I understand. I already explained everything to them. They knew that you've done your best and they've seen the result."
"Oh! What happened while I was unconscious?"
"Nothing much. If you can see your arm and find the incomplete dragon crest, that means it was a success. You just have to keep doing it until you see the complete dragon crest on your arm."
"Dragon crest?" Serina stood up and walked to the full-body length mirror. She raised the sleeves of her shirt and found a small tattoo that looked like a dragon's tail. "Wait! By lifting the curse, does that mean it will transfer to me?! Does that mean I will be carrying the curse that they were supposed to carry?"
"Yes."
Serina felt like her whole world has crumbled down. Her whole earth was shattering like a magnitude 10 earthquake was shaking her. She felt cheated. She felt betrayed. She didn't know that she'd be carrying the curse if she chose to lift them. Nobody told her about this.
'Rina! Get yourself together. It's not the end of the world yet.' Brittislava stated to wake her up. 'Don't think too much! Trust me and Alina. Everything will be fine. You won't carry this curse for the rest of your life. Things will change soon. Just trust me.'
'You could have informed me about this. Why didn't you tell me? What if things will go wrong and I'll have to carry this curse. Let's not forget that I will have to find the Luna of the blue moon pack. I will have to carry two curses with me.'
'Trust me darling. I won't forsake you. Everything will be fine.'
"Fine. Fine. I will trust you two in this matter. I just hope that nothing worse will come in the future." Serina stated as she went back to bed. "Also, is there a way to hide this tattoo? I would be fine if it was on my back like the first one but this tattoo is on my arm. People can see this. I don't want to be expelled just because of this."
"Don't worry. No one will see that tattoo. Isn't that what happened to Nicholas over a year ago?"
"Oh! Right. Nicholas didn't see my tattoo on the back that time, too. Ah? Wait! Why didn't he see it? I was probably too tired to think of hiding my tattoo that time."
'I did it without you telling me to. I just know that we're in danger so I hid it just in case something happens.'
"My dragon is really reliable.." Serina commented but she has no idea that she will lose what she had in the next few months.
