Serina sobbed quietly while looking at the ceiling. She didn't want to make a sound, afraid that people would look at her and she'd see blames and accusations in their eyes. She promised she'd save them but one of the children still died. She couldn't do anything about it. She felt useless and awful.

'Serina.' Brittislava called to her but she didn't respond. She didn't want to talk to anyone about it. She didn't want to see anyone but her situation didn't allow such thing to happen. She can't even move; how else would she avoid these people who are mourning for the loss of life?

"Serina. Are you awake?" Elder Alina called to her which brought the people's attention to her. "I know you're awake. Don't blame yourself. It's not your fault." Serina was still quiet. She didn't want to say a single word or even make small sound. "I'll bring her back to her dorm." Elder Alina mentioned and walked towards Serina.

"Wait." Brenna shouted to stop the elder, making Serina flinch in fear. "I just want to say something." Elder Alina stepped away and gave them some space. She also placed a barrier around them to make sure that no one would hear what the two were talking about. "Rina…I…I am not blaming you. Cross my heart, I have no ill feelings towards you. I know you've done your best even though you haven't mastered everything just to save my babies. I am happy and sad at the same time. However, compared to loosing all of my children, isn't it better that you have saved two of them? Don't feel bad. This has nothing to do with you. I…uh…well, thank you for doing your best."

Serina didn't say anything. She wasn't the least bit relieved even after hearing those words that came directly from Brenna's mouth. She wasn't happy at all. She wasn't satisfied with what she did.

Across the wide ocean and several countries, back in Vallardi estate, Nicholas was clutching his chest. He felt like he was going to suffocate from the pain. He felt uncomfortable and guilty as if he did something really, really horrible. He went to the kitchen and drank a glass of water but it was still the same. He felt like he wanted to hide and just cry his heart out.

"Serina." Nicholas muttered and ran back to his room. He dialed her number but no one was answering. He tried contacting her several times but there was no response at all. "Something has happened to her, Kiro."

'I know. I can feel it more than you do.' Kiro responded. 'Let's go to France. Let's go back to Paris and find her. She must be in some kind of emotional turmoil right now. This isn't the kind of pain that comes from physical wound.'

'No, wait. It's normal for women to undergo emotional turmoil let's not be hasty. She won't like us coming there without her knowledge. Let me call someone instead.'

Since he couldn't reach Serina, he contacted Natalya instead. Last time, when he visited Paris, he met Serina's friend there and left his number to her in case something happens. He didn't expect that it would come in handy at this moment.

"Nicholas? Why are you calling me?"

"Do you know where Serina is?"

"Rina? No. I don't have an idea where she is right now. She visited me few days ago and told me that she'd be busy with school activities and stuff. Do you want me to go and see her?"

"No, there's no need. I just thought that something has happened to her."

"Well, I'll go and check on her for you. I'll let you know in an hour."

"Thanks. I'll try to contact her again." Nicholas ended the call and looked for Hillary's number. He remembered that Serina will have three other schoolmates who would study with her in Paris. He just didn't know them and he didn't have their contact info. Hillary should have.

"Nicholas? It's been a while. Why are you calling me? Did you fight with Rina again?"

"Oh! No. No, we didn't but I couldn't contact her and I felt uncomfortable. I just want to know if she called you about something."

"No, she did not."

"Uh…do you perhaps have the contact number of those other students who left with her? or their social media account instead? I just want to check on Rina and make sure that she's fine."

"I'll send it to you."

"Thank you." Nicholas ended the call and few seconds later, he received the contact number of the four other students and their social media accounts as well. He remembered the man named Lambert Suede. He's the top 2 of Serina's class and also one of the students who were privileged to study abroad.

Nicholas didn't hesitate to contact the man. There's no need to be jealous because he knew that Lambert isn't the kind of guy that Serina would like romantically. He will always be the only one who will occupy every empty space of her heart.

"Hello? Who is this?" Lambert's cautious voice came from the other end of the line.

"This is Nicholas. I'm Serina's boyfriend."

"Oh! It's you. She talks about you a lot of times. Why are you calling me? Ah! Wait! You can't be jealous of me, right? I didn't really become her friend for romantic reasons. I am not in love with her or whatsoever. I just – "

"Hold it. Stop right there." Lambert kept quiet and Nicholas sighed in relief. He didn't expect this guy to have a very good imagination. Alright. That was sarcasm on his part. "I just want to know if you have an idea where she is? I have been trying to contact her but no one's answering her phone."

"That's my problem, too."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, she asked for a leave of absence because she has something important to do. We have a group activity that we need to submit next week but now that we're supposed to make it, she's not around."

"Have you checked her dorm?"

"I've been there thrice today and no one opened the door for me. I didn't hear any noise coming from her either. I asked the school guards but they haven't seen her come out of the school."

"That's weird. Well, thanks for letting me know. I'll just try to contact her again."

Nicholas ended his call again and still didn't know where Serina was. Thinking that something has really happened to her, he looked for the earliest flight to Paris and booked a flight.

'Knock! Knock! Knock!'

"Come in." Nicholas stated without looking back who it was. He knew from the scent that it was his mother.

"Our household chef told me that you don't look good and that you seemed to be suffering of something." Zalia mentioned as she sat on the couch at the window.

"I'm fine. I just think that something has happened to my mate."

"Your mate? You've found your mate?'

"I think I've found her years ago but I still need to make sure. I'm going to Paris."

"Paris?" Zalia frowned at this but then, her eyes lit up and she smiled. "So, Serina is really your mate? This isn't just a joke or a pretense?"

"I can't be sure yet. Kiro cannot feel the wolf in her and she didn't seem to be human. There's just something in her that we couldn't pinpoint yet. I can't even link our minds together."

"How can that be? If she's your mate, it would be easy for you to link your minds together."

"That's what I thought as well. But I have never been attracted to anyone other than her so I'm sure that it's her. We can't know until she's eighteen, though."

Zalia nodded her head in understanding. Last time, they were just telling the elders about Serina being Nicholas' mate but they weren't sure either. Now, Nicholas confirmed the possibility of their white lies becoming true.

On the other hand, Natalya left the three orphans in the hotel room, telling them not to come out until she returns. She reminded Corrine not to talk using her mind either or it will be troublesome if they attract vampires again.

'Rina.' Natalya called out.

'What is it?' Serina answered, pretending to be fine. She just got back in her room after Elder Alina sent her back.

'Where have you been? Nicholas called and was looking for you. He said that he couldn't reach you.'

'Sorry about that. I just went to get something and I forgot my phone.'

'I see. Give him a callback.'

'Yes, I will.' Serina disconnected their link and just went to her bed. She was lying down with her body curled into a fatal position. She sobbed and just cried her heart out. She was still broken hearted from what happened to the baby. Even if she removed the remaining curse, she couldn't bring back the life that was lost.

'Rina?!'

Serina was jolted awake from her sobbing when she heard that voice.. She knew that it wasn't Brittislava and she knew that it wasn't the voice coming from someone that she knew. 'Who the heck was that?!'
