It was nine AM and everyone was gathering for the morning meeting. Greetings were given. Inquiries about the prior evening activities were asked. Jackson showed new pictures of his baby like the proud papa that he was. He tried to maintain a sober, professional demeanor but got all gooey when baby pictures were shared. Seulgi was no better when the pictures of Suki came out. Nayeon and Yeji showed off the cute pictures of their puppies as well.

However, there was something missing from the staff meeting today. It seemed dimmer today. Someone was missing and it was strongly felt amongst Seulgi and her clique. This is a hard reason for this. It’s because not one person was missing, but two. The Terrible Twins were on assignment elsewhere.

Min-Jeon would be gone for about a week because she would be training a new girl named Audrey. She had been referred by one of the managers named Margie, so they knew that they needed to treat this girl well. While still young, Min-Jeon was still very professional (when she was not goofing off) about her duties. So, she took this assignment seriously.

Yeojin would be shadowing them as well. Min-Jeon might not have been the very best example for her to use as a role model, but she was the one currently available. Besides, they were becoming fast friends. Much to the chagrin of most everyone else. Even their friends outside of work started noticing the difference between the two girls. Once the external friends met the source of the change, they all knowingly accepted the inevitable.

So, with the Terrible Twins gone, they might have to do a bit more work themselves, but it was going to be quieter.  Significantly quieter.

The Terrible Twins were good, very good, at what they did. However, as with all young people, they were very noisy at anything and everything that they were doing. It came from being excited about being there and with whom they were with.

They could be annoying at times, like cute but over-eager puppies. They were fun despite the occasional urge to strangle them. Sometimes they needed a good beating, but they were so cute you couldn’t bear to do so.

So, while they were off training Audrey, there was a chance to do some serious, uninterrupted work. Progress would be made! They hoped.

This was Seulgi and her clique, after all. There was always something happening to make life more ‘interesting’ than strictly necessary. That was part of what made working with these particular people interesting, seeing how they deal with and overcome adversity. Or, perhaps, in their more paranoid dreams, their Adversary.

This morning, in particular, Seulgi wore a smile that out shown the sun. More than one person was nearly blinded by side glances alone. It was impossible to look directly without getting blinded. Unless you had the proper optical eye ware to observe her, such as the casual irreverence of Nayeon that made her nearly immune to Seulgi and her smiles. Jackson used his wife and child as a shield against Seulgi’s charms. Yeji, who was still developing her immunities, was still both blinded and re-smitten.

The Terrible Twins managed to evade today’s trap.

Nayeon: “Something happen last night?”

Jackson: “Something definitely happened last night.”

Seulgi: smile brightens up about ten degrees.

Yeji: Manages to contain her drool.

Nayeon: “What? Do you think it was a guy?”

Jackson: “No, her smile is not sloppy enough to be a guy. Remember the last time she found The Man of Her Dreams? She was a fool for a week.”

Seulgi: smile dims about ten degrees.

Yeji: Perks up.

Nayeon: “Did she go by another cat café?”

Jackson: “That’s likely. Or a new drama.”

Seulgi: Smile stays unchanged.

Yeji: Slightly less interested. Yeji is a dog person, after all.

Nayeon: “No. That’s not it.” Glares. “This is something else.”

Jackson: “She is being smugly silent. If it were a guy or a cat, she’d have told us to shut up and go back to work by now. This is about to get interesting.”

Seulgi: Looks down to avoid their eyes and her smile brightens up about a hundred degrees. Her minions know her too well.

Yeji: Cocks her head to the side inquisitively while question marks float about her head.

“OK, ok, guys. Let’s get serious. There’s a lot to do today.” Seulgi starts the morning meeting.

She explains the missing Terrible Twins and how they will all need to pick up the slack. It will not overburden the team, but some of their own progress will understandably be slowed down a bit. Also, while no one would be willing to admit it, they will miss their brightly obnoxious presence. Even if it is only just for a week.

Nayeon keeps probing about what happened to make her so happy. Seulgi kept evading the subject triggering Nayeon’s (and everyone else’s) hunting instincts and they kept trying to dig further until Seulgi metaphorically slapped her down and stopped the questioning.

This only delayed it, because it was time for business, not personal matters. Her heart was not really into the chastisement, so the grilling would definitely continue. Probably during lunch.

Nayeon was already immune to this form of abuse. Mostly because this was hardly the first time it’s happened. It would be closer to triple digits than not.

Yeji looked slightly shocked because she had not seen this side of her boss before and was aghast.

Nayeon and Jackson both just looked predatory.

Seulgi was slightly miffed at their lack of decorum, but she continued the meeting anyway. She was also already used to these two’s lack of respect. She would teach these two a lesson. Eventually.

They put on their Serious Grown Up faces and got down to business. Reports were given, plans were discussed, and assignments handed out. They were comfortable in the routine, each knowing their parts and doing what was expected. Doing it well.

Yeji went off to gather her data that was needed for the current project.

Jackson left with an evil grin to scare some poor schmuck into behaving.

No one was really sure what Nayeon ever did. Neither did Nayeon for that matter. But things happened around her to make it look like she knew what she was doing. She left with a malicious grin, thinking about all the questions she would inflict on Seulgi during lunch.

Seulgi felt an ice-cold breeze float down her spine, she was momentarily terrified about lunch, but then she ignored it and got back to her duties as well. This project would not write itself, she had her duties, too.
