A hoard of HR piled into the room asking what was going on. It seemed as if the entire department showed up with pens and steno pads.

The higher-ups have sent out feelers to assess what’s going on as well.

The head of HR went to conference room A to talk to the very distraught man. The HR department #2 was tasked to talk to Karen. With a look of distaste, she knocked on conference room B’s door and entered. Evidently, Karen’s reputation preceded her.

Seulgi and the manager broke people up into smaller groups and got statements from them. It quickly became clear what happened.

Karen does not have a filter on her mouth. She says things without regard for repercussions. She is as rude and offensive as a four year old child could be, even a four year old had a better self censor than Karen did. At least the four year old has an excuse for lack of manners.

Min-Jeon and Yeojin both filtered back to see if they were needed. The Terrible Twins were enmeshed in the proceedings and information began to flow like the Spice on Arrakis. As with a proper police interrogation, people were individually interviewed so as to not influence what others said.

After all the statements were made, everyone was gotten back to work as the routine might help settle their minds. Some people needed to take longer than others to get their equilibrium back. Some people took an early afternoon break.

The office had mostly quieted down. Except for room B. That only got more strident.

Room A, remind quiet. The only thing that was heard from there was the head of HR saying “…and go ahead and take the rest of the day off. With pay.”

The man came out. He started gathering his stuff to leave when Seulgi bee lined over to him. Without a word, she wrapped him into a bear hug. It was a near thing, the tears. He managed to escape both her arms and the office without further indignities.  Head held high, he walked to the elevators and left like a puff of smoke in the wind.

All that was left now was how Karen was dealt with.

All of the reports were collated, and placed in order, while the manager read them. They decided to write the man who left’s report later. He had enough to think about now rather than rehashing it while his wounds were still bloody.

Then, the next most shocking thing happened. Elevated #5 dinged into the silence. Nobody used Elevator #5 except the CEO, CFO, and the CIO. Someone big was heading inbound.

The Old Man himself stepped off the elevator. Everyone stood up, including Seulgi. Without a word, he walked over to the manager’s desk and held out a hand. The manager, equally silently, handed him the stack of reports as to what happened.

Everyone remained standing while he read over the reports, one by one. His frown turned into a scowl. The scowl deepened into furrows that could politely be referred to as a fury.

The look on his face was fierce enough that Seulgi’s brood instinctively headed to her side as ducklings would take shelter from their mother's wings. Even she was nonplussed at the look on his face. She had seen him mad before. Even angry before. But this was pure, elemental rage.

The Old Man looked at the manager.

“Give him the rest of the month off. If he needs more time after that, give it to him, no questions. Her, I’ll deal with personally.”

Handing back the reports, he moved over to Room B. It may have been human nature to want to place an ear to the door and listen to what was about to happen. Seulgi knew they would not have to, it was about to get loud.

The door opened.

“…and then that man had the audacity to open hand…” and the door closed.

Silence.

More silence.

Then – “Wait….What?!”

Silence returned.

“You, you, you can’t do that!”

Silence.

“I don’t care if you do not want me to raise my voice at you, sir! I’m telling you that HE is the one in the wrong! You cannot do this to ME!”

Silence.

Then, without warning, a male voice volume increased so that everyone on in the office could clearly hear.

"Here it comes," Seulgi thought to herself.  "And me without my popcorn," she continued sardonically.

“This is MY company! I can do with it what I want! I have read over the reports about you for a while now and you are without a doubt the most troublesome, incompetent deadbeat we have mistakenly ever hired! I am going to correct this RIGHT NOW! GET OUT! YOU’RE FIRED! If you are not gone in 10 minutes, the police will be called! Now, get out of my sight!”

A satisfied sigh psychically went through the room at this. No real sound was made as Karen fled the fury of a righteous man.

After ten minutes, the Old Man walked out of the room. Straightening his tie and hair, he calmly walked over to the manager's desk.

“If she has left anything personal, have HR pack it up and send it to the last known residence on record. I do not want anything that she has tainted left in this building within the next thirty minutes.  Every trace of her. I. Want. Them. Gone. You get me?”

The manager nodded. The HR people gathered like locusts at Karen’s desk and started razing it. Seulgi went to the break room and got everything that Karen had left behind. A lunch, a coffee mug, and even a salt and pepper shaker combo that was brought from home. All of it. She added it to the pile of personal things that were left on and in her desk, that was to be sent away. A lesser person may have been tempted to spit in her lunch box, but Seulgi was normally above such petty things. Even if it was deserved.

People like Karen were a rancid canker in both corporate and personal lives. They both needed to be excised for the health of the body. To let such an infection infest the rest of the body quickly becomes toxic.

“Make a copy of those, and send them to both HR and Legal. If she is stupid enough to fight the ‘terminated with cause’ designation, I want her slaughtered. I want her to have absolutely zero room to have any sort of case. Everything is documented, everything in triplicate. If she pushes it, push back. Hard. Hold nothing in her records back.”

The manager, all of HR, and everyone else who heard that collectively gulped. The Boss was serious this time.

Nothing more was said. Nothing more needed to be said. He went back to elevator #5 and went back upstairs. The silence that was left, was deafening.
