“Hey, everyone, let’s go to the beach!” said Nayeon.

Everyone else: ‘You think this is some poorly written anime trope?’

After the fiasco in the outer office was finalized, Seulgi brought her entire crew into her office and closed the door. It was time for some serious business.

There was no bickering as there was nothing to argue about. Outside of the normal, everyday stuff, anyway.

There were no recriminations as there was no fault from anyone present.

There were not any raised voices in consternation, as there was no need. Everyone could have their say without being interrupted. There was no need for that kind of disrespect.

However, after what happened, there was a somberness that was rarely present when these people got together. Needless to say, everyone was shocked. Everyone had hoped that Karen would get fired, but no one expected her termination to be like this explosive.

No one, absolutely no one, was sad to see her go. Honestly, everyone was relieved to see her gone. Even people who never met her and only knew her by reputation were relieved that her toxicity was gone. It’s amazing how necrotic one person could be to the flesh of an organization.

Karen was no longer an issue, but the fallout was just beginning.

With everyone in the office, comfortably ensconced with a comfortable chair and whatever drink they preferred, Seulgi began the meeting.

Simply put, she was doing a status check on her people. This meeting would be a cross of a business update and a therapy session. By starting with business, it reordered everyone’s minds back into an orderly process to numb the bombastic explosion that occurred not two hours ago. Even the Terrible Twins were quiet.

She started the meeting with the most unflappable of her people by asking Jackson for an abbreviated status report. He was wise enough to know why she wanted him to start, too. There was not anything to really add since this morning’s meeting, but he went ahead and rehashed what was reported earlier to set the tone. Calmness, somberness, and not the usual hint of playfulness were present. Just business.

Picking up when Jackson finished without prompting, Nayeon also re-reported what was said earlier. There were a few minor details stitched into the report that was not present in the morning meeting. This was because she had actively been working on these things when recalled to the office.

Yeji, next in seniority, was next to offer her report. She was near ‘late’ to this impromptu meeting because she was physically the furthest away when called back. As this was known, she would not have been in trouble if she had not made it on time. She was still not completely sure what happened, or why everyone was seriously uptight, but she was smart enough to read the room. She also trusted her boss and companions to be informed of what was going on when the time was right.

Min-Jeon stood up to report what she had been up to. She looked at the people looking at her, blushed, and sat back down. Then she updated everyone on how the training of Audrey was going. There were many aspects that they were doing to get her up to a competent speed that would make her a more valuable person to the company. She and Yeojin were both pleased with her progress. It had not been too long ago that either of them had been the trainee that everyone was talking about, so they knew what it was like. Not that this had anything to do with their department, nor what happened earlier, but since everyone else was reporting on what they had been doing it made sense to add their part of what was happening. She wanted to contribute her and Yeojin’s part to the meeting, too.

Yeojin added a few things to what Min-jeon had said.

Seulgi made sure that everyone’s drink was topped off, a couple of snacks set out, and got down to the business at hand.

First, she started off by updating on what business had happened, what updates were made, and what had yet to be done. There was not a lot to be added, but there was still some small progress that had been made during the day. This was not quite a stalling method, but a continuation of the tone of the start of the meeting. Technically, she did not have to report to her underlings, but the flow of information would help them be aware of what was needed and why. Information was power and she wanted her people to be the strongest they could be.

Then, she started the main purpose of the meeting.

She explained what happened in the office earlier. At least to the best of her knowledge, what had happened. Being scrupulous, she did not say any names or other identifying comments. She had a pretty solid idea of what had happened, she had also listened to several of the people giving reports, as well as talked to some of the people that she knew on a first name basis.

She explained that there had been an altercation between two employees. One had said something very offensive to the other. It was an unforgivable thing that had been said in the harshest way possible. At that point, the argument turned into a physical altercation and escalated to physical violence.

Yeji went pale and actually gasped at this. The Terrible Twins both turned grim. Even the irrepressible Nayeon lost her smile.

Seulgi continued. Once the facts came out, the instigator had been terminated on the spot by the CEO. At this, there was a collective sucking in of breath. That the CEO got personally involved was already incredible, but that the same kindly old man terminated the offender personally. This had never happened in the entire history of the company, he had a personal hatchet man do that deed for him when necessary. To say that everyone was shocked would be an understatement.

Nayeon, being Nayeon, managed an irreverent comment that destroyed the mood by spitefully saying, “She had it coming.” Still, despite no one saying anyone’s name, they all knew who that was said about.

The team was not positive about what was said exactly, but they had heard enough to have a pretty accurate description. It was safe to say that no one would miss her.
