Seulgi’s minions were trying to mitigate the more salacious and outrageous stories that were immerging. The rumormongers were promised a proper accounting once they knew what happened to appease the masses. Even Nayeon and Yeji were aghast at how fast the stories were spread. And they had even worked for the company for a couple of years, they had seen a lot of things happen there, too. But, when it came to their boss, stories spread like wildfire, even on a good day.

Jackson was actively fighting this particular fire when Seulgi reappeared.

The elevator dinged. The office went into a hush, all eyes pointing at the opening door.

To everyone’s amazement, Seulgi was brushing cookie crumbs off her shirt when she exited the elevator and headed to her office. With the Old Man’s reputation, they were expecting evisceration and entrails. Not cookie crumbs and a cup of tea.

The rumor mill kicked back into high gear about what might have happened. Needless to say, the rumors were just as silly as before she went up to the Old Man’s office.

Seulgi sauntered into the office floor.

The silence was deafening. The proverbial pen drop that everyone heard was a ballpoint pen that rolled off someone’s desk.

There were no obvious signs of blood.

She still had all of her limbs and digits.

She walked with her normal floating grace, so no damage to her knees.

In her normal oblivion, she was looking down at her shirt as she was brushing crumbs off herself. She was unaware of just how many rumors she was destroying as she waltzed into her office.

Her Mona Lisa smile also simultaneously destroyed and created even more rumors.

As she was almost at her office, still looking down, she said: “Jackson. Yeji. I know you’re here, I can feel your eyes. Come see me.”

Even both Jackson and Yeji were caught by surprise by this. Everybody had to reevaluate their notion about just how oblivious Seulgi actually was. Everybody looked at everyone else in surprise. After all Seulgi’s disregard for her surroundings, and the people in it, was legendary.

Was it possible that just maybe, just maybe, everyone had been played by an elite player?

Then when fervent speculations were rife, Seulgi reclaimed her title by walking nose first into her office door.

The soft ‘Oh!’ was heard clearly by everyone.

The whispers restarted. This time, there was a hint of humor and relief in them.

The former surprised trepidation was replaced with the comfort that this was the Seulgi that they all knew and loved.

Seulgi side-eyed a look over her shoulder at the office behind her with a killer smile that poleaxed everyone that saw it. Doubt about just who and what she was started again. Jackson saw it and sighed. The rumor mill was going to have a field day with this bit.

Good thing Nayeon was not here: she would have started a betting pool by now.

She started humming a little ditty as she opened her door and walked in. Jackson and Yeji looked at each other as they approached her door. A small knock and an ‘Enter!’ later, they gained access.

They had no clue about what to expect. They were in absolute, uncomfortable ignorance. That she had gone to see the Old Man and that was never a good thing. The possibilities of what they could find were astounding to think about. The ingénue could be crying, sobbing, hysterical, maudlin, calm, numb, or even packing her things as she was no longer needed in the company.

What they didn’t expect was a full body howling laughter. The pair was expressionless and dumbfounded a second time in as many minutes. The look of shock on their faces only made her laugh harder. At its manic height, the door behind them closed, cutting off the howler monkey-esq laughter. This had made her sound as if she was either laughing or crying, and no one was quite sure which it was. The questions about her sanity started surfacing.

Several cell phones were pulled out, calls were made, and Nayeon and the rest of the coterie hurried back to the office. There were various states of concern within the converging masses. They all converged nearly all at the same time. Mostly, the younger ones waited on Nayeon to request entry as they were not sure if they ought to, or even allowed to, or not. Naturally, Nayeon strutted up to the door and rapped the door frame, as she was virtually immune to the speculation about what was going on in the office.

She received a quiet “Enter!” and they opened the door and then entered. Again, no one knew what to expect. Which was a good thing as they would have never, ever expected what they found.

She and they were aghast at finding out the three people that they all looked up to and idolized most on the Earth, to the most were actually crying. Tears were down their faces, snot running down their nose, Yeji and Jackson were actually hugging each other for support.

The group shuffled in, completely unsure of what was going on. They looked at the trio. The trio looked back. Once the door closed, the recent additions could be knocked over with a feather. And nearly fell over when Seulgi, Jackson, and Yeji all did the unexpected: they started laughing all over and quite literally fell on the floor from laughing so hard.

Quiet, composed, unflappable Yeji was actually pointing at the team and started thumping the floor.

For the first time ever, both of the Terrible Twins were so shocked, they could not say anything. They could not even move, let alone speak. They were even scared to smile, despite the trio on the floor just starting laughing at them all over again.

Nayeon, the good natured, always smiling, never bothered by anything Nayeon actually roared: “WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!”

If anything, that she had lost control enough to swear made matter worse and the trio on the floor just went back into gales of laughter.

It took several fuming minutes of laughter to subside and hiccups to finish before anything short of a semblance of order was restored. It took significantly longer than it should have and the roles were reversed with Nayeon frowning and tapping her foot with angry irritation at her errant superiors.

The giggles never really fully subsided. They’d start again until Nayeon’s glare finally finished the last of them. Up off the floor, comfortably ensconced back into her chair, Seulgi called for chairs for everyone, some drinks, and snacks. Once she, Jackson, and Yeji were back into their normally composed selves, answers came.

Smiling, Seulgi coughed into her fist to stifle some incipient giggles and cleared her throat.

“Sorry about that.”

“Just tell us what’s going on already!” the left half of the Terrible Twins demanded.

She was answered with smiles and a near giggle from Yeji that was stopped just after they began by a frowning look from Nayeon.

With an unrepentant grin, Seulgi began explaining.
