Contrary to my own expectation, they actually just gave us the two kilos of meat we are accounted for and the money that I worked hard for in the farm and in the putting-corn-inside-the-sack. All in all, it's fifteen copper coins.
…How much is fifteen copper coins? I'm guessing silver and gold coins exist, too. Are there papers too? I really need to read the Hell's Handbook, I don't want to ask anybody just in case. Won't they find it weird that I can't identify something as simple as that?
"Dinner was great." Euphemia says, smiling, bringing me back to reality. She has her eyes closed because I'm currently helping to dry her hair. When she heard that I'm going to shower, she said she wanted to do so as well. And considering we have our own source of water, and still have enough wood to boil some, it was easy peasy to do as she wanted. "It was the first time I saw Amy eat that way."
"Well, the dinner you cooked was something else."
If only we had rice… ah. I really am gonna steal some rice from the farm tomorrow.
"It's only because you got the meat back." She replies.
I finish rubbing her hair with the towel. Because there's no concept of comb here, I just use my hair to fix her long, black, beautiful hair. If there's shampoo and conditioner here, I can tell it's gonna be even more beautiful. "Done."
"Thank you." Euphemia grins.
I help to get into a more comfortable position.
"You know, you really seem different." Euphemia tells me. "I mean, I know you're still you but, you just seem so… different."
"Character development." I grunt.
"Huh?"
"Nevermind."
Euphemia chuckles. "Okay."
I tuck myself into bed, too. The coldness at night in this place really hits differently here. That's why they always put wood to maintain the fire because of the heat, and then why they don't really take a bath or a shower. I can't do that, though.
"Now we have the money, we should stock up some food. Like eggs, some vegetables… also, wood…"
"Wood? We pay for that?"
"Yes… because… the only wood near here… is the Forest of Death… trees…"
I look at Euphemia in the corner of my eyes and she's asleep, mouth slightly open and breathing evenly.
Perfect.
I slide down the bed — which is just a hard mattress, like it's made out of rocks — and walk out of the room softly. And then I look everywhere. Doors locked, windows locked… okay…
I breathe in. "Hell's Handbook."
Bright orb suddenly appears in front of me, and by the moment, it keeps on glowing and glowing until I have to close my eyes. Slowly, the light fades away, only leaving a book that is, for some reason, floating.
I touch it with my hand and instead of something normal, the book releases a smoke and then I hear a voice.
Greetings, My Lord. I am your loyal servant, Nameless Butler. I exist to serve.
A human shaped object is in front of me. I say object because it is absolutely impossible for someone this pretty to exist in real time. It's just not possible. It's also wearing a suit that I realized now is a butler uniform.
It did say it's a butler. A nameless butler.
"Who sent you here?" I ask.
Lucifer.
…?
"Excuse me?"
Lucifer sent me, My Lord.
"No, I got it but why would… Lucifer sent… you?"
I do not know how the mind of my creator works.
I sigh shakingly. "Really? Okay, nevermind. So, uh, how do you… what do you do?"
I work as a Handbook. You can ask me anything and I will give you the answer.
"Am I Awakened? And if I am, what is my power and how do I activate it?"
Yes, you are Awakened and the power that is given to you is Alchemy. To activate it, please just say its name.
"Say its name?"
Yes, My Lord.
This My Lord thing is making me crazy.
"Alchemy?"
Activated.
I blink and suddenly, everything has started having labels. And the voice of the Nameless Butler keeps saying in my ears, Wooden Table, Rank E, built sufficiently but will only last for a few more weeks, built by a crafter named…
Wooden Chair, Rank F, built…
Wooden shelves…
Wooden…
Wood…

…Interesting.
I walk to the kitchen and grab some.
Egg, Rank E, is rich in… (EXPAND)
"Expand?"
EXPAND:
XXXX - good for xxxxx, if you add xxxxx it will be a good xxxxx
XXXX - good for xxx, if you add xxxx, it will be a good xxxxx, good for xxx….
XXXX - good for xxxx…
XXXX - good for…
XXX - good…
XXXX - ….
(SCATTER)
"What the Hell is that?"
Expand is a command where one object's components can be listed and will help an Alchemist to know what they can do with a certain component. Scatter is a command where one component can be taken from the object. When you scatter, the component you want to leave the object will come to you in the form of powder or liquid, depending on what form you want it to.
"Scatter. XXXX. Powder."
And a powder in a jar floats in front of me.
"Why couldn't I see the Expand and Scatter option in the woods?"
The wood is already unusable, My Lord, as the information said, it can only be used for a fortnight.
Makes sense.
"Magic told me They're gonna give me something, like an Item Box?"
Of course. Please say, Magic.
"Magic."
Numerous floating boxes pop out in front of me. Most of them are nameless. Some, however, have names underneath them.
(XX) sleeping bags
(XXX) spatial bags
They said the sleeping bags and spatial bags are a, and I quote, freebie, unquote.
I don't know where I am supposed to use them but — oh… Magic… you did something right, oh my God.
If you ever put an item in one of the boxes, time will not affect it. It won't rot, go cold, or go warm. It will be as like before you put it in the box.
Oh, Hell yeah! Just like in video games.
For Astrology, They said they informed you on how to use their gift to you. However, there's one feature that Astrology added. If you ask the map anything about directions, it will give you the safest and most likely answer.
I beam. "Thanks. It'll be helpful when I leave the village."
Will you?
"Yeah. Can you deactivate these, please?"
As you say, My Lord. Every box vanishes like it isn't there in the first place. When will you leave, My Lord?
"I'm not too sure. I need to convince Euphemia first. And I think being Awakened will be a good argument."
As expected of you, My Lord.
"Can you not call me that? Sophia is fine."
I couldn't. I am made to serve you.
"Fine, whatever, can you go back to being not here for now? I'll go back to sleep and discuss being an Alchemist with my sister. I'll call you again when I need you."
As you say, My Lord.
"Alright, goodbye, Adrian."
My Lor — but before it can go further, the butler vanishes.
I yawn. It's good that I have Alchemy now. I could make potions, furniture, or maybe be a blacksmith and sell whatever I make. I will do that kind of business to keep me afloat when I finally decide to travel.
Yes, I'm travelling. There's no way I can stay in any town or village and hope the Hero and Saintess will turn up, are you crazy? I need to actively search for them. I haven't forgotten about my mission and yes, I did promise the old Sophia but Euphemia could come with me, if she wants. Or if she wants to stay somewhere, then I'll give her everything she needs to survive just fine.
I have no concrete plan yet. For now, I'll just tell Euphemia about being Awakened and go from there.
I go back to bed, gently tuck myself in and close my eyes.
Sleep comes in fast.
