Chapter 18: Chapter 16 – Cat girl meets the guy who should not be trusted

"Cleo, you already know the situation, right?" Elemiah asked, his voice echoing across the main hall.

"Of course, a demonic person appeared in Merton East," Cleo said, her hand reaching out to shield me, "That's why my mission was canceled. But Grand Inquisitor, what does this have anything to do with Felicia?"

"Seriously?" Elemiah raised his voice. "The demon in question used Ice and Space magic. Cleo, you already know what this means, don't you?"

As Elemiah spoke, I felt an intense gaze directed at me.

Demons? Are there also demons in this world? And more than that, this demon uses Ice and Space magic? Those are the two elements that DeathWhizkersz use!

It didn't take much effort for me to see what was happening here. So Elemiah, the Grand Inquisitor, suspected me. So that was why he wanted to meet me in the first place.

I was about to speak up and defend myself, but then I remembered Cleo's warning. Elemiah's should never be trusted. So, under no circumstances should I speak. All I must do was to remain silent and trust Cleo instead.

"Elemiah, she has been with our family for the past two days. She can't possibly be the demon you are looking for!" Cleo's voice was stern as she stood up to vouch for me, her eyes blazing with fierce determination.

However, Elemiah completely ignored those words. "Demons are extremely cunning," he said, his voice low and menacing. "Cleo, you are letting your guard down. Although she may not be the exact demon I am seeking, that does not mean that she cannot be involved. There is no guarantee that there is only one demon after all!"

"What?" Cleo exclaimed, her voice rising in anger. "Do you know what you're saying, Elemiah? How could someone like you bully a young and innocent girl like that? Are you so consumed by your own hatred and fear that you cannot see the truth standing right before you?"

"Young and innocent girl? Ha!" Elemiah sneered, his face twisted in disgust. "That's ridiculous! Cleo, she's a DeathWhizkersz! An unknown DeathWhizkersz! How can you have no suspicions at all? Are you so blinded by your own emotions that you cannot see the danger she poses?"

"Of course I have suspicions!" Cleo yelled. "But let me make one thing clear. The investigation of the girl's identity is being handled by the Knight Order and it is not the Church's place to intervene! Don't you dare question the capabilities of us! We will not stand idly by while you accuse an innocent of a crime they did not commit!"

"I'm not accusing anything," replied Elemiah. "If she's really that innocent, why don't you just let her come with us? Are you perhaps hiding something?"

"Ha! Come with you? Don't make me laugh! You think I don't know what interrogation methods the church are using? How many innocent lives have you ruined just to catch one single demon?" 

"Tsk, this is pointless," Elemiah clicked his tongue, his eyes cold and calculating as he turned to me and pulled out a small black stone from a pouch on his belt. As he held the stone, a stream of dark smoke spewed from it, filling the hall with its foul and nauseating odor.

"What? Madness Gem?" Cleo's face twisted in shock as she saw the object. "Inquisitor! Have you lost your mind? Felicia, we're leaving!"

But as we were about to make our escape, suddenly, a shower of light swords descended from above, crashing down to the ground and blocking our path.

Elemiah's voice boomed out, filled with authority and power. "Stop right there!" he commanded.

I turned and saw Elemiah holding an open holy book, the pages emanating a dazzling light. His eyes struck fear into me. He then raised his hand and a barrage of light swords materialized in the air, all aimed at me and Cleo.

"Hah? You want to fight?" Cleo bellowed, her eyes ablaze with anger as she drew her giant sword. The weapon glowed, bursting with purple sparks of electricity. Those sparks sounded like mini explosions.

I took a step back, my heart pounding, terrified.

But Elemiah refused to back down. "Either leave her here for us to investigate, or make her face the Madness Gem trial! Otherwise, don't even think about leaving!"

With those words, dozens of other priests emerged from the shadows, encircling us from all sides. Their magic was at the ready, waiting for Elemiah's command to strike.

But Cleo stood her ground, her body engulfed in lightning and ready for battle. "Ha! Do you really think I'm afraid of you?" she sneered. "We're leaving. And there's nothing you can do to stop us!"

However, as I looked at Cleo carefully, the beads of sweat rolling down her face already told me about our chances of getting away. Yes, Cleo was no doubt very strong, but against so many enemies like this? Not to mention that behind Elemiah stood the entire church. Even if we managed to escape today, the conflict would not be over. They would never leave us alone. So not only Cleo, but Lizz could also be dragged into this hell of a mess.

Dread filled me at the thought of them being caught up in this turmoil. I was shaking, terrified, and worried about my own life, but I didn't want to be the cause of harm to those I loved. 

So, "I'm sorry, nya," I said, bowing my head in apology for not being able to follow her words anymore.

"Felicia you idiot!" Cleo yelled and glared at me with disapproval. "Do you even know what the Madness Gem is?" she said.

But I had made my decision. Of course I had no idea what that ugly stinky stone could do, but was it really that important? What mattered most to me at the moment was Cleo and Lizz's safety.

So turning to face Elemiah, I spoke firmly, "The Madness Gem trial, right nya? I'll do it, but only if you order your men to back off and not cause any harm to Cleo nya!"

"Deal," Elemiah replied. "Now come here."

But as soon as I stepped forward and moved away from Cleo, that bastard Inquisitor instantly lowered his hand and hundreds of swords came raining down!

"What? Stop this nya!" I charged at him and raised my fist into a punch. But he quickly grabbed my wrist and slammed me down onto the ground!

"Arrgh!" I screamed in pain. It hurt like hell, but at least the guy finally held his end of the deal and stopped his assault as soon as he had me under control. Then, as the dust cleared, Cleo emerged unscathed.

There was no visible injury on her body. I was so glad.

“Angel!” Cleo then pointed her sword directly at Elemiah and announced. “If anything ever happens to my girl, I will tear down your entire church!"
