Chapter 8 (Quincey’s Vengeance)
Everyone sat down to eat in the spacious dining area. Food was spread widely across the table, which different varieties capable of making, even someone who was not hungry, drool at the mere sight.
“Dig in.” Sinclair’s father, mr Quincey, insisted.
And so we did. Sinclair’s mom sat at the far end of the table opposite Quincey. She was just like Sinclair, emotionless and speaks only when needed. I knew her since I was a child and so was used to her.
“This is really good, Mrs Freyja.” Marie spoke. Freyja being Sinclair’s last name.
“Thank you.” She responded and continued her meal.
Marie looked at me and I shrugged.
“Now, I hear you two have been taking good care of Sinclair here.” Quincey spoke.
“Well, it’s more like she’s taking care of us.” Marie said happily.
Sinclair was a year older than me and I was a year older than Marie. Marie really seemed to be enjoying the food, seeing how well she stuffed her face with it.
It wasn’t our first time visiting for dinner, so we were really used to Sinclair and her mother.
“That’s good. Because, you might never know when someone tries to stab you from the back.”
Quincey said this in a chilly manner. I was sure that he was talking to me. What seemed weird to me was that this man was somehow present in my memories, or was it memories of the past users?
I only laughed this off in an awkward manner and continues eating. Then he asked me something unexpectedly.
“Is that a tattoo on your palm, mr Kegan?”
This thing that they called “Navègat “ was written at the back of my palm. It looked like a symbol drawn as a tattoo, so anyone that did not know about the Spuino Graila would often mistake it.
All eyes were fixed on me. I didn’t even know what to say.
“Kegan, I didn’t see that earlier today.”
“Well you see..”
“It looks just like the same one that was on Trish.”
No one spoke. I was unable too. Sinclair didn’t speak either. Marie realized her blunder and began to apologize. I told her to not worry but she was convinced that she had made a grave mistake and was ready for any punishment.
“What happened?” Freyja asked.
No one knew about Trish’s death apart from the three teenagers seated.
“Trish is dead.” I replied.
“I see, please excuse me.”
For the first time, I saw Freyja change expressions, even though it was none noticeable. She got up and walked away.
Sinclair followed after her and Marie did the same. Now, the people left behind were I and Quincey.
“Please excuse me.” I stood up.
I couldn’t move. I felt a spine breaking aura aimed directly at me. What am I saying, I couldn’t even breath. He grinned widely and opened his eyes slightly revealing his demonic gaze.
“Please sit down.”
I did as I was told. I still feared death. I was neither a god nor was I immortal. I was just a human that could die easily if a blade was thrusted deep into my chest.
“Now let’s talk about the business at hand.”

I didn’t understand. I could perceive faint scents of his power and his true nature. He was a Rashivan. A very strong one at that, I stood no chance.
“What business?”
He looked up again, this time he dismissed his smile and only had a grave neutral look on his pale face.
“You killed a good friend of mine.”
Kill? I can’t even harm a fly if it was denying me of sleep, so how can I kill your friend?
“Sorry Quincey, but how did I kill your friend?”
He was clearly pissed.
“I see. So you remember nothing from your earlier encounter with Hildem. But just because you don’t remember doesn’t mean I won’t kill you.”
What on earth is he talking about? Hildem? Kill?
“Hildem was the Rashivan you killed.”
He revealed.
Come to think of it, I was told that I eliminated a Rashivan who Lei or Phono could keep up with. Was that who he was talking about? But still, he was a threat and needed to be neutralized.
“I don’t have any memories regarding that, but if it was for the good of my planet, then I have no regrets.” I said confidently.
Quincey was beyond enraged. He was fuming, so much that I could see the smoke coming out of him.
“Do you know how to use your source?”
“No.”
“Then you should know that you are going to die.”
“Not without putting up a fight.”
“I forced someone to transfer his source to me just for you. You should be glad that you’re about to die in the hands of the greatest assassin in the whole universe. If you beg, I might give you an easy death.”
“I refuse.”
He stood up and reached inside his clothes. I was about to stand up when the ladies then came out of the rooms.
Sinclair had come to see us out. It was already twelve past nine, and Marie was late.
“Mrs Freyja should be asleep now, we’ll take out leave now.”
“I’ll escort you both.”
“Oh, okay then.” I faced Quincey, who gritted his teeth.
“Good night sir.”
I said this and I walked out. As I closed the door, I could feel his piercing gaze targeted at me but I kept up an invisible wall of courage and faced him.
