Chapter 9 (The Greatest Assassin In The Universe)
As I walked alongside Marie and Sinclair, the thought of Quincey springing from the shadows enveloped my mind. I couldn’t even make out what the two ladies were talking about because I was lost in thought.
“Kegan!” Marie shouted.
I concentrated and looked at them.
“Yeah what’s up?”
“Uhm, where are you going to without saying good bye?”
Huh?
Oh, it looks like we already got to Marie’s fence and I was a walking forward. I put my hands behind my head and smiled clumsily.
“My bad.”
“You really have a problem Kegan. You’ve been lost in that head of yours too much lately.” Sinclair concluded.
But she was right. I had more things on my mind than that of an adult. Things that could spell life of death for me.
“She’s right. I don’t want to see you like this tomorrow.” Marie continued.
“Sorry.”
I apologized and Marie went into the house waving us goodbye. Now, I was left with Sinclair. She wasn’t really a bad person to be with, I just didn’t want to g get her into trouble. But even a mad assassin woul not risk his daughter’s life, right?
Well, I couldn’t take risks if my friend’s life is involved. I stopped walking and faced Sinclair who was at my left hand side.
“I think this is enough, you can go home now, Sinclair.”
“No.”
“No? But why?”
“I want to walk with you.”
It looks like there was no helping it. Once she decided to de something, she doesn’t back away from that decision.
“What do you think about father?”
She asked me.
“Well, he’s quite the character.”
“Is that all?”
I sensed a small amount of, should I say fear, in her voice. I didn’t know what she was scared of though.
I put my hands deep into my pockets and she continued talking.
“What if I say I hate that man.”
Everything stopped. How can someone hate their father? Especially Sinclair. Sure, she doesn’t show much emotions but she’s not the type of person to keep a grudge. I didn’t understand a thing she was saying.
“Oh forgive me, I didn’t mean to say rubbish.”
She said but her words still lay heavy on my chest.
“Oh it’s fine. If you want, you can tell me more even.”
“If I tell any more, it may cause the death of you.”
What is she saying? Death of me? Come on Sinclair, spill it all out, please. Who is this man? Tell me about it.
“Have you ever heard of the Rashivans, Kegan?”
She began to speak. I began to play dumb instinctively because of this question but I was shocked too, no “shocked” is an understatement.
“What is that?”

“Oh, so you don’t know about it then.”
“At least tell me what it is first.”
She looked at me now, making sure I met her eyes too. Then she spoke.
“The embodiment of darkness.”
I had heard this before from Lei and Phono. It was something I thought I was common with but Sinclair saying this made my heart sink into deep grave.
“Oh so it’s a movie then.”
I laughed to brighten up the mood but this didn’t change anything at all.
“I was told about the Rashivan by that man. I know what you are.”
Sinclair continued, piercing into my heart with her gaze. I became serious and asked her.
“Sinclair who is that man?”
She opened her mouth to answer, slowly.
“He is…”
Faster than anything I’ve seen before, but I was able to react to it and save Sinclair from getting her forehead pierced.
A sharp and pointy blade aimed directly at Sinclair’s forehead. I instantly reacted to it and put my palm in the way instead, causing it to be stabbed by it.
Sinclair fell down after looking at the man standing before us and the blood dripping from my hand.
Now dressed like an assassin from a movie with a hood with bandages wrapped everywhere except his face and blades wrapped around his waist with two guns.
He took out those guns and held them in both hands, tossing out a series of action poses. Then he smiled.
“So you really wanted to tell him our little secret, Sinclair.”
Quincey snapped but in a calm manner.
I looked at Sinclair who had a terrified expression written all over her face. She was so scared that she could almost cry.
“Run, Sinclair!”
I yelled at her.
“O-okay.”
She stood up and began to run. She stopped and hid behind one of the benches. Even though it was not a good idea to hide, no one had the time to think for using spots.
“Come at me, you bast-“
I couldn’t finish my sentence. I couldn’t even think straight. My head began to spin. I could feel the vomit rising up my throat and then going back down. The punch deep in my torso, almost destroying my ribs, was so overpowering that I could barely think straight.
“Nggg.” I groaned before falling on my knees. Quincey stood above me smiling, like a predator scaling his prey.
“I won’t let you do anything to my planet.” This was the only thing I could say, but Quincey had no business with that.
“I can’t destroy your planet. Don’t you know it’s a taboo to destroy a planet that I’m not assigned to, but it’s not against the rules to kill one of the goodie too shoes, you know?”
He was right though. Destroying a planet where a match was not decided was against the rules and would result to immediate execution, death. But killing a member of the opposition was not against the rules.
These rules came like flowing water in my head. It was too much. So much that all I could see was memories and nothing else. Then I woke up and saw a punch fixed at me.
I dodged it. My reaction speed has increased greatly even though I didn’t know how. His punch was able to create airwaves capable of shattering the tree behind me. In simpler terms, his punches were not human.
I could hear whimpering coming from Sinclair.
“Hmph, now I know how strong you are, I think it’s time I kill you.”
Quincey decided with his maniacal smile.
