Chapter 7 (Sinclair Father: a huge turn of events)
These past few days, I didn’t realize that I have been ignoring my only friends. But this was not my fault. The things on my mind, ranging from the Spunio Graila to the concept of good and evil, just made me forget them. It almost made me lose my grasp of reality.
I didn’t know that I skipped classes or left home early or didn’t pay attention anymore. It was like I was living in my own little world.
The sky looks lovely today. I see the clouds forming together to create many bizarre shapes and copy of our everyday objects. I see birds flying freely in the sky and just sigh.
“Here.”
“Huh?” I asked.
I saw Marie and Sinclair standing before me. Sinclair only waved at me, while Marie looked sad for some reason. In her hands, was a paper. Likely my test sheet. I collected it from her and saw that I had scored ninety seven. I only smirked and continued my phase.
“What’s wrong with you Kegan?” Marie asked.
I opened my eyes and sat up. This was our common hangout. Outside the school, under the shade, a roof, of the auditorium.
“What do you mean?” I replied.
“You’ve been acting strange.”
“Oh. I’m sorry.”
These were the only words that could come out of my mouth. I didn’t want to tell them anything about the issues I’m facing because this will cause a huge complication. I decided to keep this a secret from anybody on this planet we call earth.
“Trish is dead, right?”
Sinclair said out of the blue.
My eyes widened without my knowledge and tears began to form gradually. Marie scolded Sinclair.
“How could you say that?! That’s not a nice thing.”
“But people’s behaviors determine the situations that they are facing, and if you notice Kegan’s huge change from optimistic to a pessimistic rat in the shadows, you’ll understand that someone important has been lost. So it’s Trish isn’t it?”
“Stop Sinc-“
I didn’t allow Marie to complete her sentence.
“Yes. Trish is dead.”
It was like time itself stopped. No one spoke a word and neither did I. I felt my air covering my eyes as I looked down and shielding them from the light.
I tried my best not to cry, I really did, but the laws of grief was indeed to powerful against the likes of a weakling like me.
“I’m so sorry Kegan.” Marie finally sat down beside me and held my head close to hers. I didn’t push her back.
Sinclair touches my head and assured me.
“Now that Trish is gone, it is our responsibility to take care of you. We will try our best and you in return will not fail us. Hm?”
Her emotionless expressions never failed to surprise. I chuckled and nodded. This was the first time that I ever saw her smile and it made me happy inside.
Marie punches my arm.
“Owww, what do you want you savage?”

I saw tears dropping from her eyes almost ready to become a violent flood.
“Don’t keep things from us again.”
I smiled.
“I promise.”
The ball rang, and the school day was over. I left school alone again but unintentionally until Marie and Sinclair locked eyes with me and I stopped.
I ruffled my hair and smiled. I heard my smile was enough to make the meanest meanie have a change of heart and I hoped this would oils make them forgive me again. They just decided to ignore my mistake and followed me home.
“So what are we doing today?” Marie happily asked.
“Hm?” I replied.
Sinclair didn’t say anything. She held her fingers together in a way that showed that she wanted to say something but didn’t know how.
“What do you want to say Sinclair?” I decided to intervene.
For the first time, Sinclair was shocked.
Marie looked at the both of us.
“I thought you said no secrets.” I continued.
“The thing is…I..I..”
She was stuttering. I looked at Marie and Marie looked at me. This was stage first time that we saw her like this.
“So my father is back from his travels and he w..wants to meet my two friends, but I told him that they aren’t my friends that they are just people that talk to me and they see me as their classmate, right?”
She spoke as fast as a jet. She was clearly nervous. Marie let out a little laugh and I smiled and held Sinclair’s shoulder.
“We are your friends Sinclair. Hell, we’re best friends so you don’t have to worry. We’ll come see your dad, okay?” I assure her.
She doesn’t smile but I know she’s happy.
“Thank you.”
We walked a few blocks from school and finally arrived at Sinclair’s house. To be honest I expected a graveyard or something darker but it was a decent duplex.
It looks like they didn’t change a thing since we were children.
She knocked and the door was opened. A huge and tall man opened the door and looked at us. His face was as hard as concrete. He smiled.
“So these are Sinclair’s friends that I hear so much about? Welcome, welcome.”
He told us to come in and we did as we were told. As I passed him, I felt a familiar and string scent. I looked at him and he looked at me, smiling, knowing who I was. And, in a way, he was someone I knew as well.
“I hope you enjoy your stay here.”
