Chapter 10 (An Assassin’s Wrath)

We continued our battle. I summoned the courage to stand up and forgot about the pain in my left hand and my stomach. Blood was still dripping down from the palm.

Instantly, I met eyes with Quincey beside me. He executed a clean roundhouse kick and I leaned down to dodge it. He smiled and tried to punch me, but I blocked it with my left elbow.

This punch shattered a few bones. I winced in pain and let my elbow fall. I could barely raise my arm.

“How do I end this quickly?” I said to myself.

Seeing as how he has the upper hand and my current knowledge on classes, I could say that he is close to a B class whereas I am a D class myself.

Unfair isn’t it? Having an extremely strong opponent to battle against. Was definitely not something I planned on doing anytime soon.

He took out his gun and pulled the trigger.

“Finne Ehn Blitz”

(Law of Motion)

“Shit”

I realized something. I was no longer far away from him or the bullet. Instead I was drawn closer to him. I tried to move back but I couldn’t. I was lucky to be able to see the bullet so I moved my head to the side to dodge it. As I moved my head to the side, I noticed that an attractive pull drew me back to the initial place I stood when he shot. It was true sheer strength that I was even able to move my head.

As soon as the bullet hit something, I realized that I was able to move now. I took a lot of steps back.

“If this keeps up I’m going to die soon.”

He continued shooting at me. Each shot drew me closer to the bullet. Even if I was in entirely different country, if he chooses me as a target, I will be drawn closer to him and his bullet.

-Finne Ehn Blitz (Law of Motion) makes the user of the spell define his own law of motion, pulling his targets closer to him to fulfill his desires.

I was barely able to dodge all his bullets. A few grazed me and my blood was spilled.

Clak. Clak.

The bullets were finished. This was my chance. As he’s reloading I’ll execute my attack. This was what was in my head. So I did that. I pulled out the blade thrusted in my palm and groaned. Using that blade, I moved faster than the eye could see and thrusted his chest.

But then I remembered. He’s still Sinclair’s father. I couldn’t bring myself to make her an orphan.

I was never aware of when I hesitated to eliminate Quincey.

“Little punk.”

I felt the hole deep in my shoulder. If I didn’t move sooner, it would’ve been in my chest. Blood spilled everywhere.

“Argh.”

I stepped back and fell on my knees. Quincey shot at me. A huge bang was heard.

Sinclair heard this sound and looked at the scene. Sweat falling down her face.

“Kegan!”

She ran out. I’ve never seen Sinclair like this even when I had broken my leg. Instead, she would always call the ambulance instead and walk away. Now she ran to me with tears almost falling down her eyes.

“Kegan, are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m not dying yet, don’t worry. It’s just a scratch, argh.”

I couldn’t lie I’m this situation. The wound was so deep and great. I couldn’t lift up my shoulder. It was like my left arm was a magnet for several injuries.

“He’s not dead yet?”

Quincey said.

He walked closer to me. I tried to get up slowly, with Sinclair as a helping aid.

“Stupid brat. Holding back your attack because of some stupid emotions. How do you expect to fulfill your stupid role if you’re this weak.”

He made fun of me. Sinclair held me in her arms and tried to help me stand up completely.

“Kegan, this man is not my father.”

“What are you saying?”

“He threatened me and my mother. My father died a longtime ago. He said he came from another planet and was a Rashivan. He used his guns and his weird powers to make us kneel to him and obey him. He said that he wanted to see you so I brought you to him. I betrayed your trust. I’m sorry.”

She began to cry. I was surprised, not betrayed. I looked at Quincey and a this demonic sin of anger raced in me.

“Oh wow, now you’ve told him everything, it’s not like it’s going to help y-“

I punched him. I punched him in the face sending some of his teeth flying. He was taken back and hit a car, denting it’s exterior.

“Gahhh.”

Blood rushes out of his mouth. He laughed maniacally and got up.

“ How did you do t-“

I landed another blow to his face. This time I did not allow to get flung away, and held him by his collar before dropping him down on the ground. Th impact caused a short earthquake and cracks on the ground in that area.

He pulled out two of his guns and shot at me. This time, I caught hold of the bullets until every single one was in my hand before dropping them on the ground.

I didn’t know what happened to me. My head was filled with information, guiding me, telling me what to do, movements to make, how to use my source even.

I slipped and fell directly on him with his gun pointed at my head. A stupid mistake to make considering that my life depended on this.

“Plot twist, I win.”

Then he pulled the trigger.

“Kegan!!!”

Sinclair screamed. There was no way I could survive that. It was aimed directly for my head. But I didn’t die. Instead it had no effect on me. I admit that I felt pain at first, but then it vanished. The bullet fell from my head to the ground.

“Huh?”

Quincey was confused. How can someone, a newbie, be able to nullify his attack. It doesn’t make sense. How is he in a higher class than him?

NOTE: Power levels determine a soldiers status in each group. If one’s power level is lower than his opponent, no spell or energy attacks of his will have any effect on him. Only physical attacks will be able to aid him, and this is difficult, considering that his opponent has more spells, stats and experience.

I laughed. Mainly because my head told me to. As of now, I was a slave. A slave to my own self. I got control over myself once again.

“Look, I’m not a killer, so I’ll let you off the hook this time. If I ever see you again, I’ll not spare you. You have my word.”

Only I knew that this was an empty threat. I couldn’t kill. I’ve never killed. It was simply something I never thought of doing.

“Stupid, stupid.”

“Kill.”

“Don’t be stupid.”

“Destroy the source.”

“Or else the cycle will be continued.”

Stupid? The voices spoke. The memories spoke. They told me to kill him. I guess being a killer was allowed if it was for the sake of good. But I couldn’t do it.

“Heh.”  Quincey smirked. He looked at Sinclair.

“Elai Sheba…” He crawled closer to Sinclair. Sinclair was scared and she began to run but she couldn’t evade what was coming next.

I remember this. This was how Trish transferred her source to me. He wanted to make Sinclair one of them. I couldn’t allow it. I won’t it. I spoke only out of instinct.

“Heloz gade.”

I was no longer in control of my body but at the same time I was. My hands stretched forward and a sword with a long handle and a longer blade appeared out of no where. It was like I was the main character in a war film.

I took hold of the weapon before me.

“Rakh…” Quincey continued his spell.

I raised Heloz Gade.

“Vh…”

And that was how I became a murderer.
