Chapter 4 (Lei’s Blunder II)

“So you really don’t know about the War between the Spuino Graila and the Rashivans?” Leith asked Kegan.

Kegan shook his head no and was extremely confused. Not knowing how all these things had to do with Lei sending past and present information to his head. This was truly an out of the book thing that had been done.

Lei shook her head and looked at Kegan. She shook her head again and sighed.

“Okay let me explain. You know the theory of how things are divided into two parts. Good and evil, black and white, even the spirit world, heaven and hell. Everything. Well, I am a member of the Spuino Graila, a group that fights for the good side and defends the entire multiverse from the hands of the bad side, the Rashivans, a group of evil beings that only seek to destroy everything without a cause for it. This is what we call the order. ”  She explains and looks at Kegan.

She shakes her head again. Following her patterns, it is easy to note that she is deeply disappointed in Kegan and the people of earth for being so ignorant and knowing nothing about the century lasting war.

“Wait, I don’t understand. Then what are you doing here?”

“Are you so foolish, Kegan? We are here because your planet is next on their target list.”

These words put Kegan in a deep shock. He widens his eyes and looks at the table. As hard as it is to believe, he cannot deny what happened to his head. He shrugs and laughs it off.

“Even your guardian, Trish, is one of us.”

He continues to laugh and reaches for his bag.

“You really are a funny one, Lei. I’ll see you at home.” He says and walks out through the door.   Lei shakes her head in disappointment. She did not expect the people of this world to be so, “uninformed “ and foolish. Instead, she expected them to be smarter, maybe even smarter than her. She gets up and follows Kegan.

“Why are you following me?”

Kegan speaks.

At the busy roadside, high school student, Kegan and Lei walk side by side. They look  truly like a really beautiful couple, so much that an old woman selling heart shaped balloons offers them one for free.

“I hope you two will last forever.”

“Pfft, tough wish.” Kegan says after they’ve walked a safe distance from her stand. He hands the balloon to Lei.

“Have it.”

“Thank you.”

They keep on walking without saying a word to each other.

“So, do you believe what I said?”

Lei asked Kegan who was rather focused on Trish and other secrets that she ought to be keeping from him, like could he get powers? Is he one of the Spuino Graila? Is he an alien?

All these races across his mind.

“I find it very hard to believe, but considering that I have already felt what you can do, there’s no harm in it. I’m just …”

“Scared?”

Lei helps him complete his sentence.

“Yeah, and I feel betrayed.”

“Why so?”

“Trish kept all these away from me. I know she might have a good reason for it, but it still hurts, you know?”

Lei looked at him with compassion and tried to calm his spirits.

“Commander Trish was a very brave and caring warrior who cared about saving lives, whether it was the life of a planet or any other thing. She probably kept it from you to avoid panic and live a normal life. She already decided to retire after this battle.”

“Retire? Why?”

“Because of you.”

Kegan looked at her.

“Because of me?”

“Yes, apparently, our “beloved” commander Trish cares about you more than anything now and will do anything to protect you, maybe that’s why she wants to retire and make sure she dies only after seeing you grow up and become an adult, one capable of taking care of himself”

“Oh.”

-Because of me, Trish is leaving her duties, what she cared so much about. She’s  sacrificing everything and going against the order for me. I don’t even know if this is good or bad. Am I burden to her? She always finds ways to take care of me and my awful weak body always disappoints. I even find it hard to walk sometimes. Wouldn’t it be better to leave her. I mean, this is the right thing to do at this point. I know what I must do.

_ _ _ _

I woke up from my slumber, because I took a break from work and was exhausted. I opened my eyes and saw Phono standing at the balcony watching, waiting for any detection of a Rashivan.

“Oh you’re awake.” He noticed and came over.

I gently stood up and asked him for the status of the whole thing. He told me that his Navègat had blinked once and stopped. This means that only one of them has landed on the planet.

“Okay, so does that mean that we have to move out?”

I asked.

“This might be a trap to lure us in. It’s better we wait for the other Rashivan to arrive, then we attack.”

“Okay then. Do you want anything to drink?”

“I don’t know anything from this planet so I’m not sure.”

“Okay then, I’ll make you tea. Let’s see if that gets on your taste buds.”

I almost entered the kitchen when I heard the door knob being twisted. The door opened and Kegan walked in. I sighed and welcomed him in. Even though my Navègat did not blink, I still feared that the Rashivans had found my location.

“Welcome Kegan, I’ll go make you something to ea…”

“I’m not hungry.” Kegan stopped me. This has never happened before. Normally, he would thank me and go to his room to put down his belongings but today I could sense something different from him. Something like guilt and doubt. Then I turned my gaze and saw Lei near him.

No, she wouldn’t. But I didn’t tell her about the nature of this planet as well. Isn’t this my fault as well?

“Why didn’t you tell me about the Spuino Graila?” He finally confronted me. Not knowing what to say, I began to stutter.

“You see, the thing is..”

“Hm?”

He stopped me again, not giving me any time to talk. I felt so bad for him.

“It was for your own safety.”

I told him. He looked down and I could feel the amount of guilt from him. I didn’t know why he was guilty though.

Phono confronted Lei.

“What did you tell him?”

“It’s not my fault. I didn’t know that the people here were so being held in the dark.”

“You little…”

I extended my arm signaling them to stop, which they did immediately.

“I’m going away.”

“What?”

What was Kegan saying? Going away? I didn’t understand him at all.

“G-going where?”

He looked up at me ready to cry.

“It’s all my fault, isn’t it? You try so hard to take care of me, to the extent of retiring from the one thing you care about and I,..I only push you back.”

What is he talking about? He should know by now that I would choose him over anything else in the world. But he still doubts me.

“No, Kegan. That’s not how it I…”

“That’s exactly how it is!!!”

He begins to yell.”

“I love you and want what’s best for you, even if it means that I’ll never get to see you again. So you should do the same. Follow your own path and don’t make a heavy weight like me push you back.”

He began to cry now, not scared of what would happen to him but scared of losing me instead. This act was incomprehensible to me, but I had to save him from every negative thoughts at all costs.

“So please, defeat the Rashivans and rejoin the Spuino Graila.”

The doorbell began to ring. Everyone ignored it, focused on the scene before then. It rang endlessly. Kegan stood directly in front of the door. No one noticed that the Navègat had blinked three times.

Phono finally came back to earth and looked at his palm. He stopped for a second and looked at Kegan and the door.

“Kegan, move away from there!!”

“Huh?”

Kegan did not understand what was happening but could feel something. Something cold then hot and painful.  He touches the area of this pain and felt a thick liquid dropping out of it. He looked at his hand and saw blood.

He looked at his stomach and saw a black colored blade thrusting out with blood dripping from its surface.

“Kegan!!!” I shouted out of fear. Fear that the thing I live for, will die. Fear that I will be alone once again.

He slowly fell to the ground with his knees. The door was opened and we saw them.

The evil and deadly Rashivans. I recongnized these two, they were the same ones that killed Mathias and almost killed me.

Their menacing smile only made me grind my teeth together and curse out. Veins bulged out of my forehead.

There was only one thing on my mind now and that thing was

“KILL OR BE KILLED.”
