With a woosh, I saw her arrow fly forward. The deer were minding their own business until they noticed a group member crying out in pain. Her arrow pierced the deer's side where I assumed its heart was located. Not wasting a second, the other deer darted off, but the one that was shot slumped to the ground. A clean kill, which impressed me.

I was not queasy, as I've seen turkey being shot while on the firing range. So the sight of dead animals did not upset me at all.

She seemed to have noticed my presence as she glanced in my direction. First, she was surprised, but quickly dismissed me. She pointed at the deer's corpse and then said some words. From how she spoke, I assumed she was telling me that was her kill, so I should not try anything stupid. Which I was something I was not thinking.

I slowly approached her and the corpse, which drew her suspicion. However, after raising my arms, signaling that I meant no harm, she sort of dropped her guard. She reached for her stone knife at her side and drew it. After looking it over a few times, she shook her head and sighed.

I examined her knife, it was really rough all over and did not even look like a knife. More like a sharp rock. Even then, I could see why she was sighing. The tip of the stone knife was dull, which would make it difficult to pierce the skin of this deer.

Reaching for my knife that I stored in my pocket, I grunted. It was best not to speak, as I wanted to learn more about the language here. Could I learn it, or should I teach others what I knew? It would be difficult either way, but I assumed eventually i'd have to get around to one or the other.

Glancing at me, she noticed the knife in my hand. It looked refined compared to hers, which caused her to be shocked once more. I smiled and offered her the knife. She reached for it, but before she could grab it I also pointed at the thigh of the deer, then pointed back towards myself. I figured this motion should be enough for her to know my intentions.

She hesitated but nodded in agreement.

Before she did anything to the deer she placed both her hands together in a praying motion then mumbled some words. Once that was done she went to work skinning the animal.

As she was doing this, I wondered if there were any horses, cows, and sheep around. There had to be some in the area, but I needed a way to secure them. A horse was necessary to cross vast distances and to capture or hunt other animals. It would be good if I started raising my own livestock. I figure everything would be okay if I give them a large area to live in and some water. That was the best I could think of, as I was not skilled in raising farm animals. I was more of a dog person growing up. This also gave me the idea of looking for a sort of dog or pup I could raise. Eventually, breed them to help with hunting.

While I was no professional in that field, I figured I could learn given time. If I did it correctly and raised them right, I might be able to sell the hunting dogs in the future. Wait, the concept of money more than likely did not exist yet. Therefore, my best bet would be to barter them for another animal I'd need. Which meant I'd need to find a tribe,

The woman finished skinning the deer and removing the thigh I asked for. She did all of this while I was lost in my own thoughts. After she finished, she said some words, but seeing how confused I was, she sighed. Picking up the deer, she motioned for me to do the same. Oh, she needed help lugging this back to her home. I understood.

I nodded in agreement and helped her by grabbing the other end of the deer. I followed behind her as she lead me back to her home, but every so often, I stopped to make marks so I could find my way back. She seemed to be patient with me, probably curious as to why I was doing this.

It took around an hour or so before I saw smoke in the distance. I could also hear voices, and that's when I realized I was about to meet my first tribe.
