I could feel my heartbeat, it felt as if it wanted to jump out of my chest. I saw a few people wearing fur for clothes with shabby homes. This was my first glimpse at a real tribal society. I could not help but feel excited as I observed the citizens of this terrible. There was a man with four young children around him, showing them a stone knife and a dead rabbit. He was pointing here and there as if he was teaching them.
In another group, I saw some messing around with different types of fur that hung on a wooden rack.
This was pretty amazing in my eyes, as I could see how their society worked. Their homes could use a lot of work as it was simply made of sticks and hay. It did not look sturdy, but at least it blocked them from the elements. In the back of their camp, I spotted a couple of horses, which made me want one.
As we approached closer to the camp, I could see the tribal markings on their bodies. Various black symbols and lines on their bodies, which made me wonder what they meant. I managed to spot an elderly man with a red circle on his forehead instead of it being black.
After we arrived at the tribe, we were greeted by three people. Two men and a woman. They started speaking, and the woman I was helping responded back to them. One of the men with his long ponytail smiled and patted her on the shoulder. After which, he looked at me with a questioning gaze and then said something. To which I stayed silent, but the woman I was with replied back instead.
She pointed towards the knife I lent her and started speaking some more.
As excited as I was about this whole ordeal, I was nervous as the same time. This was a situation that I had no clue how things would turn out. Would they murder me? For a knife? I mean, people killed over less, so it was possible.
That was my greatest fear, but it did not come true. Instead, the man that patted her nodded his head then looked at me. He pointed towards the knife, said a few words, then motioned for me to follow. We dropped the dead deer and followed him. He took us to a rack of spears with stone tips and bows. Pointing at the weapons, he said something then motioned towards the knife.
I understood. He wanted to barter. My knife for one of these weapons. I did not know how to use a bow, and this spear would be nice to have, but I could create my own. If I managed to find a stone large enough, I could create some javelins. Therefore I shook my head and walked toward the tied horse. Pointing towards it I smiled.
He gasped and shook his head. Was this not worth it? After I thought all was lost, he tapped his finger and then held up five fingers. Five knives for one horse? It would take me two or three days to create that amount. They did not have any other animals here, so I shook my head and sighed.
He motioned towards the woman that I helped. I turned back towards her, and we were both surprised. Was he trying to set me up? It wasn't a bad idea when I thought about it. As I would need to create some sort of dynasty here, but was this right? We did not even speak the same language. I took a long time to answer and seeing my silent expression, the man seemed to be worried about something.
I nodded and glanced at her. She did not seem to mind.
A moment later, he flashed ten fingers. I gasped.
