Chapter 9: Himawa

It was now cold enough to where I could see my breathe in the air. Everyone was dressed in fur skin and so was I. It was warm, but it was missing something. Maybe it was because I was wearing the fur of a red fox, but it just felt wrong. There were no sleeves, no zipper, nothing of that sort. I felt naked even though I wasn't.

This was something I had to get used to as being able to make proper clothing was still a ways away for me. I wouldn't complain though.

"Himawa, how was hunting?"

I asked my wife as she came inside our home at set her bow down. She looked a bit under the weather as of late so I hoped everything was going alright.

"It was fine there are still plenty of animals to hunt."

She said.

"Then what's wrong?"

"Wrong? There's nothing wrong. I went to my tribes shaman and she said I should be expecting soon."

Oh? Oh. Oh!

No wonder she looked a bit out of it as of late. However, this was wonderful news!

"That is great, yes?"

"Yes. But, who will hunt?"

"I can hunt?"

She laughed a little. I could hunt but I was not the best at it. What took the others in the village an hour or two to do, took me four hours or longer. It was safe to say that I was terrible at it.

"No. I will hunt, I will ask Ale if he wants to trade. Your wooden figures have a small following. Maybe Ale would like some."

"Maybe. I was thinking that I could start working on a new project. With winter approaching travels will slow down so our population won't grow much. I think nows a good time to build a road between our village and your old tribe."

Himawa looked a bit confused.

"Road?"

I nodded.

"Yes a pathway that will show people how to get to us. Something that is easy to follow."

"You'd have to ask the chief about that. It should be alright, but best to ask."

I would ask, but felt it wasn't needed. What could one do about it anyway? I'd just come along one night and create a stone sidewalk leading into your village. Before anyone knew I appeared I'd already have vanished.

A road connecting us would be important in the long run. Especially once winter came.
