As we thought that those things were running away, they began gathering in one place until they merged with each other. At an incredible speed, all of those monsters were being fused together, growing bigger and bigger each time it sucked a monster.

That mutated monster also sucked the corpses of the monsters that should have disappeared by now.

“What is… that thing?” Sweat was running down Aya’s face as she was looking at that monster.

"GYAAAYAAAUUAUAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!"

"YGUAUAAAAAAAAA!!!"

"HYAGGGAAAAAAA!!"

Countless screeching voices could be heard from thousands of faces that were visible on that mutated body.

"This is unbelievable!" Theresa spoke after trying to resist those loud voices. "I've never seen something like this in my whole life."

Even Aya was having trouble keeping herself calm from that monster. But she kept trying to stand up, resisting any kind of vocal attack that monster gave.

On the other hand, many of the adventurers that I could see from here were trying to understand what kind of monster that was as well. They were really far from here so they couldn't really give us any assistance for the time being.

"Do you have any plans for this?" Theresa suddenly asked me.

I'm glad that she wants to rely on me, but I need to understand what kind of monster that is first before we act.

I wanted to inspect it's status from here, but for obvious reasons I couldn't get much details from it.

Since that thing was created from thousands of normal monsters, it wouldn't be weird if I would see thousands of different stats instead of the mutated one. And sadly, I was right to figure out that my appraisal won't be much help to me.

""...""

Both Theresa and Aya were waiting for a plan while that monster was gaining full control of its own body. But preparing a plan in this kind of moment wasn't going to happen.

“Everyone, dodge!!” I alarmed both of them before it would be too late.

“whAgH!!!?”

And in an instant, a dark beam of liquid cut through the air, burning the ground in a straight line that reached thousands of meters away.

“W-what was that?” Aya asked after seeing what had happened to the place they were before.

“We’d be goners if that thing hit us.” Even though she could’ve died in an instant, Theresa didn't panic or react in any kind of way that would distract her.

A monster with that much power could even overpower the whole town in no time if it wanted.

Even though I didn't take any physical damage, I still didn't avert my eyes from every move that monster made.

But that doesn't mean the same thing goes for Aya and Theresa.

————————

With each step that monster took, the ground shook a little, scaring most of the adventurers from the size of that monster.

They could even see from far away how powerful it was, and what it could actually do with one of its attacks.

“W-w-what is t-that!?” The same girl who was observing the fight using her magic, stood in fear after witnessing the deformed giant monster.

While the fight between the monsters and adventurers was over, another inevitable battle was about to begin, and she knew that if that thing got near the town, casualties would be inevitable.

“Ugh… my head…” Laying on the ground was a shirtless guy with bandages on his head. He held his head with his hand for a bit as he was trying to get up. “...What happened?”

And after the healer girl who was looking at the disastrous monster, noticed the adventurer that had woken up. “Y-you shouldn't get up so fast. You haven't been healed yet!” She worriedly said to him.

“A little hit in the head wont stop me.” But that adventurer didn't seem to care about her warnings.

“...so, what's the situation?”

"..."

“Very bad… the wave of monsters have moved away from the town, but they merged together, creating a colossal disaster.” She explained as she showed him a close image of that massive dark monster.

“I see… What about those guys over there?” He asked after noticing Hiroki and the girls beside him that were trying to dodge liquids falling from that monster.

“They are some adventurers that wiped out an incredible amount of monsters before they could even get close to us.”

“But from the looks of it, even they can't seem to fight that monstrous thing…”

“Seems like it… but if that colossal monster decides to approach this town…. Then the only one who can save us is god…”

….

Hiroki’s POV!

————————

Crushing down everything on its way, that giant monster tried stepping on us with its massive body. It's skin and bones were rottened as it released some kind of fluids from its body which almost melted the rocks with it's toxicity.

“This is bad, we won't be able to last long if this goes on for any longer!” Even though Theresa was a 'BB' ranker, she still had trouble dodging attacks coming from that monster.

"It must have some kind of weakness." Aya added after taking some steps behind.

Since Aya didn't have any long reach attacks, she only deflected any liquid attacks using her dagger. Some drops would even fall on her clothes, but thanks to her cloak, she was uninjured.

"A dungeon monster must have a core within its body, so if we manage to locate where it is, we might be able to defeat it." I said to them as they were trying to catch their breath.

"Have you seen how massive that thing is? We'll never find it's exact location, and besides, we don't even know how big its core is. It could even be the size of a pebble."

But even so, we don't have many choices here unless we decide to abandon this town and let this dangerous monster wander around in the wild until it finds its next place to destroy.

"If you want to retreat for now, then I'm okay with it since we don't have many choices right now." I replied back to her as we were trying to come up with a plan.

"I won't retreat and leave this town behind!"

And as I had expected, she won't be retreating from here no matter how dangerous the situation was.

I could try to possess that monster but there were two main problems preventing me from doing so.

The first one was that there were way too many monsters merged with each other, so I won't really have much control. And the second one… I don't think I will be able to keep my cool again if I possess a monster like that.

"What about it's legs? I-if we can at least injure its legs then won't we be able to slow it down?" Aya suggested.

But before we could reply to her suggestion, we dodged another dark attack made out of something dark.

"That's not a bad idea. With the amount of monsters merged together, we could at least manage to slow down its legs."

Since that monster was considered as many beings merged inside each other, I couldn't attack it with my paralyzing attack. But if I only attacked its legs, I could slow it down since there were fewer targets for me.

"Let's go with that then." Theresa also agreed before I tried approaching that monster.

Since that giant monster was about to charge up another attack, I rushed towards it and tried getting its attention.

"Try killing me if you can." And after provoking it, it immediately noticed me and tried stepping on me.

While I didn't receive any damage, it made it easier for me to paralyze both of its legs. And of course, that took a huge amount of strength from me since there were way too many targets.

"Now!" And after I gave my confirmation, both Theresa and Aya tried cutting each of its legs at the same time.

While Theresa immediately cut down its right leg, Aya had a little trouble doing so since she was only using a dagger. It only took a few more swings before she cut off its other leg.

"Back away!" I warned everyone as that massive monster was falling down.

Now it was my turn once again to expose the exact location of its core. By collapsing this monster in the ground, It was full of openings for me to burn it alive.

<Fire element>

"Burn"

And in an instant, I created several fire balls which continuously were shot at the surface of that monster's skin.

“Aya, fall back!” Theresa dragged Aya further from here since the smoke could potentially harm her.

Thanks to Theresa’s quick acting, I had no reason to hold back anymore.

I didn't want to give it time to get up once again and continue its destructive plan. But since I used a huge amount of my mental strength, I wasn't sure whether I was going to last or not. And what's worse, I couldn't see the location of its core no matter how many times I was burning it up.

No, wait… Isn't it regenerating before I could even expose its main core?

And it didn't take long before I no longer could burn this monster. “Aya, Theresa! Our plan failed!”

I rushed towards the girls as they were looking at me who had failed to defeat this monster.

“What happened?” Theresa asked after seeing that that monster was forming itself back again.

“I can’t use my skills for a while. We need to get out of here before it gets up.” I told Theresa as me and Aya were preparing to run away from here.

Even Aya could already tell that there wasn't anything else we could do here.

“...” But Theresa still didn't seem to be listening to me. She stared at me for a moment before looking back at the monster that was slowly getting back up.

“Take Aya with you and get out of here.” She calmly told me as she gripped her sword.

Even though she was saying that, I could see her hands shaking a little. Her body was reacting like that while keeping a confident look on her face.

“You’ll die if you fight it on your own.”

What I said… was something that Theresa knew very well, and from the looks of it, she was ready to die rather than running away from the battle.

But why would she go this far and sacrifice herself knowing she won't be coming out alive? Is she that eager to be a hero, to the point of sacrificing herself for nothing?!

“...”

For a second I thought that everything around me was moving much slower than usual, but I didn't let that bother me until the answer of my question gradually came to me within my head as I was trying to come up with a reason to convince her.

Theresa was a warrior from a fantasy world in the middle ages. She hasn't said much about her past and how she came to be this person that she is right now. But if I had to guess, Theresa felt like a knight in shining armor who was ready to save an entire city, no matter how dangerous the situation was.

...A hero…

But the real reason why she was going this far, was much deeper than I had thought…

Theresa… wants to die…

But the question is, why?
“Theresa… why are you going this far?” Even though me and Aya were supposed to get away from here, we still didn't want to leave her behind.

“That's none of your business.” She harshly responded back to me while that monster finally regenerated its other leg as well.

“It is his business, and mine as well!!!!!” But before I could respond, Aya snapped at her.

I was also a bit surprised to see Aya yelling at someone like that.

“Aren’t we a party together?! Don’t we spend most of the time together? I don’t understand it, why do you reject Hiroki this much?”

Forgetting that there was a massive monster coming back once again, Aya continued glaring at Theresa. And I knew that that monster wasn't going to be considerate of our situation.

“...”

“Why aren’t you saying anything?”

Even though we were waiting for an answer, Theresa turned her head around and began running towards the dark monster that seemed to be pissed at us.

““Theresa!!!”” Both me and Aya called out to her as she was charging up her attack towards that monster.

I couldn't believe how reckless she was acting despite the way she usually acts in front of everyone.

Somehow, it hurt seeing how she was acting, not wanting to share how she truly felt.

“Aya, I’ll try to get Theresa back. You should run and ask for help from those adventurers.” I told Aya as I rushed towards Theresa in order to assist her in any way I could think of. But as I was on my way there, I noticed that Aya was right behind me.

“I don’t want to leave without you!” She said the moment I noticed her running right behind me.

While I felt glad that she didn't want to leave without me, she actually made this situation much harder since I had to give support to both of these girls at the same time.

That monster slammed one of its massive hands, trying to squash down Theresa like an ant, but she immediately dodged it and swung her sword at its fingers.

“HA!!” She easily cut four of its fingers and proceeded to move behind that monster. But her situation was much more dangerous than she might have thought.

Dark liquids were constantly dripping everywhere, and a single drop could do more damage than anyone could think of.

I tried creating some kind of barrier for her using levitation and all of the small rocks that were around her.

“Ughh!!” But that barrier wasn't strong enough to block every single drop of that dark liquid. And Theresa continued going forward even though her skin was being damaged heavily from just a few drops of that toxic stuff.

“Theresa! Just fall back!! We can come back with a new plan!!”

But no matter what I said to her, she continued attacking that monster from every direction she found an open spot, not realizing that the monster's blood was destroying not only her clothes but also her skin.

“Shut up!”

And with how she was self destructing herself, she came to the point where she was pushed back several meters away until she crashed into a boulder.

“Agh! I-i’m not done yet!” She had severe skin burns, caused by that monster's liquids, and from the looks of it, one of her arms was broken.

But even in that kind of condition, she still tried getting up in order to continue the fight with that monster.

Looking at how Theresa was still alive, that monster began walking towards her with the intention of finishing what It had begun. And I could feel the way that monster was pleased with how easily was going to finish Theresa like that.

“Aya, get Theresa while I distract that thing!”

“Yes!”
And after I instructed Aya about our next move, she immediately agreed and moved to help Theresa get out of there.

While me on the other hand, had my hands full with this monster that had already spotted me. And just like a person who would slam its palm to kill a bug, this giant monster used its massive hands to instantly kill me with one move.

But of course, physical attacks like that won't even leave a scratch on me no matter how powerful it is.

"You're gonna need more than that to kill me." I said as I tried distracting it away from the girls.

Aya was having difficulties carrying Theresa since she was badly injured, and that monster didn't seem that interested in me anymore.

"I'm over here you fuckhead!" I tried getting its attention once again but it didn't seem to care anymore.

After realizing that it was pointless to continue this, I immediately rushed towards Aya and tried helping her carry Theresa.

Even my skills had a limit, and I was getting way too tired to even help the girls. My right hand was becoming slightly transparent and I could feel my power draining away. It almost felt like I was about to disappear.

"Get… out of here. Leave me be..." Theresa told us as she was barely conscious from the pain of her injuries. I could even tell from her weak voice that she was going to die if she didn't get treated anytime soon.

"Shut up! We're not leaving without you!" I told her as both me and Aya were trying to get us away from that monster.

From behind us I could feel the ground shaking from it's steps as that thing was getting closer to us.

I didn't care about myself, but these girls didn't deserve to die, and I wasn't going to allow that.

But life wasn't going to be that easy in this world…

The moment I tried looking behind, that gigantic monster was about to squash us down with its feet.

The way it moved was fast, but in my sight I could feel it moving much slower than usual. It almost felt like I was about to die and my life would be flashing at the split of the second.

From our side I could even see the adventurers coming to take down this thing, but the moment they arrive here, it would be too late for Aya and Theresa.

Even though time for me was moving much slower, It was actually moving way too fast as I was about to witness everyone I loved... die.

"Infinite puzzle slash!"

In that moment, just like the wind, I saw a blue light flashing at an insane speed all around that monster's body. It almost looked like it was cut down thousands of times to pieces. I even heard someone chant some kind of words.

And within that second, that monster was reduced to pieces and turned to dust before it could even touch Aya and Theresa.

"Thank god I was on time."

And near the place where that monster just died, was a boy with black hair and a dark cloak. He didn't seem to be wearing any armor and his sword was really thin.

"Are you all okay?" That boy asked as he was walking towards us.

Even the other adventurers finally arrived here, finding that the monster was already defeated.

"..."

From behind that guy were also three girls who seemed to be in a hurry to catch up to him.

"Kaito, we already told you not to act on your own." The first girl to say that seemed to be a priest based on the clothes she was wearing. Even her hair was blonde and her eyes were blue, typical for a priest character.

"That's right, you aren't on your own anymore so you shouldn't just leave us behind." The other girl also said to him.

The other girl had light red hair and purple eyes who seemed to be cautious the whole time. But around that boy, she seemed to be very relaxed. Not to mention that her clothes and armor revealed her stomach, arms, and thighs…

"...Husband shouldn't leave me behind." And the last one was a girl with short gray hair and a calm look on her face.

And from what she said, she was his wife?

I was a little weirded out by the fact that they were married at this kind of age. But since this was another world, I tried ignoring such a thing.

"If it wasn't for him, we would have died. So we are thankful for what he has done."

All four of them looked at us for a moment after I thanked them. It almost felt like we were being judged for a second.

"They have… white hair?" The calm looking girl wondered.

But that guy named Kaito, immediately tried stopping her from speaking anymore.

"I-I'm terribly sorry about Mizuki! Even though she has a loose mouth, she doesn't mean it." Kaito wryly smiled as he tried apologizing.

But after realizing that I was being distracted, I immediately looked at Theresa who was breathing much faster while being in pain. I needed to help her recover from those injuries.

Aya immediately understood what she had to do, that's why she brought out the regeneration potions.

"Those won’t work. Let me see her." The priest got near us and tried checking Theresa’s condition.

Since Theresa was in a bad condition and that priest didn't seem to have any bad intentions, that's why I opened the way for her as I carefully laid her on the ground.

"Her skin has been infected by a paralysing poison…" She said the moment she noticed the dark veins flowing through Theresa’s skin. That's why she didn't waste any more time and began healing her.

"#%$vbd sjdj jskd" She started chanting as her hands were releasing a light green color which was healing Theresa. "Dhjd… heal."

And after a few more seconds, Theresa’s skin was turning back to its original shape. Her burns were also being healed and her arm was fully healed.

"Ugh…" And gradually, she got up while holding her head in a bit of confusion.

"Thank you." I thanked the priest the moment I saw that she was okay.

She looked at me for a second before closing her eyes. "It's my job to heal those who are injured." Her response was just as pure as her intentions were.

.

..

Later on, after confirming that no one else from my party wasn't injured, we decided to head back to our room and rest until tomorrow.

But as we were on our way there, one girl who seemed to be a healer just like most of the guys wearing the healer's uniform, came to me and asked. "I-I'm sorry to suddenly ask you this, but can you come to the guild and meet me there tomorrow?"

I thought it had something to do with the monsters we had killed, so I accepted and went to our room.

.

..

Everyone was already tired, that's why I let them rest for as long as they wanted.

While me on the other hand, was standing by until a new day would begin. The night was quiet once again and the people in the town were already back in their houses with their loved ones. Thankfully, no one died and there were no casualties since the monsters couldn't manage to reach this town.

“...”

Suddenly I noticed Aya rustling around her bed until she got up and looked at me who was standing near the window,

“Can’t sleep?” I asked after I saw her messy hair from sleeping.

She shook her head left and right in denial while making cute sounds, then she approached near me and looked outside of the window.

“...I was scared.” There was a moment of silence as I wasn't sure how to respond to that.

I didn't want to make her uncomfortable, that's why I decided to continue listening to her.

“I don't want any of you to get hurt… if I was just a bit stronger, I could have helped, but…” Aya felt really sad about not being able to become much stronger. But she should know that she already is, and she no longer is that weak girl who couldn’t do anything anymore.

“-in the end, I ended up watching Theresa almost die right in front of me…”

“'Almost dying' isn't something you should be worrying about. Both you and Theresa survived, and that's thanks to your hard work~" I began explaining as she was finding it hard to see this truth.

"I don't believe in fate, but us meeting together proves the fact that you have gotten stronger. When you were younger, you didn't just run away, you seeked a place where you could get stronger. And even after your life got harder once again at the orphanage, you didn't just give yourself up to that bastard. You wanted to become stronger.

And thanks to all that, I got the chance to meet you.

I was just a weak ghost who couldn't even talk, and thanks to you, I was able to get out of that house. We went through many hardships together. We even completed a whole dungeon that wasn't even known to the adventurer's guild.

It was thanks to you that we are where we are right now, and it was thanks to you that Theresa didn't die today."

Aya continued staring at me as I was saying all that. She wasn't giving me much of a reaction that's why I tried not hitting any sensitive topics.

"So, don't be too harsh on yourself… because you're already strong. At least you are much stronger than that girl who used to cry and hide all the time."

Aya's eyes widened after listening to what I had to say to her. Then in the next second she showed me an unexpected smile which almost caught me off guard.

She made a sign that she wanted to say something in my ear, that's why I lowered myself on her size.

"Thank you for being with me…" She whispered those words in my ear, then kissed me on my cheek before getting out of the room.

Even though we've kissed before, somehow I felt much happier than usual. It was an incredible feeling of happiness and accomplishment at the same time.

The feeling of being loved…

...

"Is your relationship with Aya always that awkward?" From my side I heard Theresa’s voice asking me that.

"You were awake?" I asked as I saw that she was looking at me.

"Yeah, your speech woke me up."

I got a little excited while I was proving a point to Aya, and I forgot that she was sleeping here. I should probably apologize to her…

"Sorry…" I apologized as I was trying to let her sleep a little longer since she probably needed a lot of rest.

"...Why didn't you run away?" She suddenly asked me.

"Isn't it obvious why we didn't run away? There's no way we could have left you behind. And Aya already said that, didn't she?

'We are a party'." I told her as I got closer to see if she was feeling unwell, or if she was still injured somewhere.

"But the real question is… why didn't you run away with us?" She averted her eyes away from me the moment I asked her that.

It almost felt like she wanted to avoid that topic. But no matter what she does right now, she won't be able to brush me off that easily.

"I already told you that I had to help those peo–"

Again, with the same kind of response… She must have something making her act like that.

"Stop it already. That's not being a hero, that's just suicide. Why did you act like that? Don't you care how your family will feel when they hear that you died?"

"My family wouldn't care…"

And as I had guessed, something has happened to Theresa.

From her usual proud and strong confidence, she had something inside which was holding her back.

"My family was killed before I could even know it. Not that you’d understand anyway."

She is right. I don't know how she feels, but I do know that she isn't alone.

"I don't even know if my family is alive or not, but I do know that they are sad about me. But the thing is… I don't even know how I died in the first place.

It happened so fast and I never got the chance to do anything with my life."

But Theresa still didn't seem convinced, that's why I tried explaining to her that dying was not an option.

"If your family was alive, would they want you to die?"

She stayed silent for a few seconds before looking back at me.

"No, he wouldn't…"

"They wouldn't because they love you! And they want you to live the best out of your life. Even after their death, I'm sure they are watching over you as you accomplish many things in your life."

"But what is the point? My sword skills are all I have left. If I can't even defend a monster then why should I even bother to live?" She sounded a little ridiculous as she was saying that.

She also reminded me of a classmate of mine who used to think like her.

But this time, I know exactly what I had to say.

"Besides, you're not alone anymore. Ever since we created a link together, you basically became part of my family together with Aya. So it's not a surprise that we didn't run away."

Theresa looked a little confused when I said that to her.

"I'm part… of your family?" She wondered as she was looking at me.

"Accept it or not, you are related to me and Aya. And your fully white hair proves it." And I wasn't making anything up. My skill clearly says that I have a close connection with anyone who is bound to my soul.

Many different feelings were going through her mind before she could even decide whether she could look back at me or not.

"...Can I… really be part of your family?"

I was trying not to react… but her eyes right now were really adorable as she asked that question. She had the eyes of an innocent maiden who seeked someone to care about. She no longer looked like a battle maniac which fighting was all she could think about.

"Have you been listening to what I said? I've been trying to say this whole time that you're already my family." She looked down the moment I said that to her.

"Don't you have a nicer way to say that to me?"

I wasn't sure if my eyes played tricks, but I think I noticed Theresa slightly smiling as she lowered her face over her knees, trying to hide her expression from me.

"Yeah, sorry."

And after a few more awkward moments of silence, Theresa looked at me with a slight blushing cheeks.

"Is a family also supposed to... kiss?" Her voice got weaker as she was trying to ask me that.

Thanks to my sensitive hearing, I heard what she actually said… but I decided to act like I didn't hear it.

"What?"

"N-nothing. I'm going back to sleep." She told me as she covered herself in embarrassment.

I didn't want to make our situation more awkward than before, and I actually wanted her to gradually get more comfortable with me before asking those kinds of questions. That's another reason I pretended not to hear what she asked. After all… her condition right now must be really puzzling from the injuries she took.

.

..

It had passed quite some time, and I was getting a bit worried about Aya. I think she went to use the bathroom, but I don't think she is supposed to take this long.

That's why I decided to go and see if she was okay.

And while I was on my way to find Aya… I heard her voice.

"W-what are you doing?"

When I tried seeing what she was doing, I saw she was against the wall while that guy named Kaito was right in front of her.

Why is that guy here, and what does he want from Aya?
