“You are under arrest for treason!” One of the guards told me as everyone had their swords out, ready to cut me down in case I would refuse to cooperate.
“H-hold on, there must be some kind of mistake here!”
“No, talking! We were ordered to bring you with us!”
Theresa tried to reason with the guard, but he simply snapped at her, unwilling to let her explain what we had done.
[For the time being, let's just follow them and see what happens.] I tried calming down both Theresa and Aya since both of them were confused about this.
And since we didn't want to get dragged by these guards, we decided to go with them to find out what was going on.
Thankfully, these soldiers did not handcuff us, which I appreciated since I can't touch anything unless I levitate it.
We were taken to the local jail and detained us there for the rest of the morning.
“You’ll be staying here until we receive further orders!” One of the guards said with a harsh tone on his voice before he could leave.
"H-hold on! We still don't know what we have done. We were on a quest in Holl-town and Amberlight for some days. So I find it hard for us to have broken any laws.” I tried reasoning with that guard before he could leave.
But all he did was sneer at me. "If you say so, you'll face even worse consequences."
And just like that, he was gone, seemingly uninterested with our confusion.
“Theresa, do you know what that guard might be talking about?” I inquired, uncertain of our situation.
Theresa rubbed her own chin as she looked apprehensive while trying to maintain her composure. "I'm not sure if you're aware of this. However, lying is severely punished in this kingdom."
"How so? Are you implying that lying has the same punishment as a criminal?"
Theresa's eyes narrowed, while Aya could be seen shaking slightly at the thought of being punished.
“No, it's much worse. The church in this kingdom believed that lying is a great sin punished by the god.” Thersa gave me a quick brief with a soft glare on her face.
“Isn't this a bit too exaggerated?” I asked with a stern expression on my face.
"It is, but not according to church doctrine. In the past they believed that God brought upon our land natural disasters every time they lied.”
She began explaining everything she knew about this matter. “Many people died of starvation, and no soil could be fertilized, resulting in the deaths of many farmers. Many animals died as a result of the deserted lands..”
“In fact, if you ask me, That's total nonsense. If there is a god, I doubt he would punish an entire kingdom for a few people who merely lied. The church is pulling this crap out of their asses.” I told her my thoughts after understanding this kind of ridiculous plot of events.
Theresa’s stern expression immediately changed into a snort as she tried not laughing. “That's the first time I’ve heard someone talk about the church so bravely.”
“I mean, that's the truth isn't it?” I gave her a wry smile after thinking what people in this world might be believing.
Because this world is still technologically behind, it wouldn't be surprising if everyone accepted whatever the church said.
But the question is… Why would the church make such a big deal out of this?
And after the mood around our cell was lightened up a bit, I decided to bring back the conversation we were discussing.
“Anyway, so those guards believe that we are lying?” I asked, making everyone think deeply about this.
“I see…” While pondering about something, Theresa said aloud.
“Did you figure something out?” I asked.
“Someone is trying to frame us.” Hersa shared her thoughts on the subject.
“That would make sense. But the question is, who?”
Left with nothing else but to figure out who was the one behind this doing, we stayed in this cell for an entire day.
…
The guards opened the cells the next morning and told us to follow them somewhere.
“Where are we going?” I asked as the guards had taken away our weapons and stuff we carried.
"Quit chatting and get moving!" The guard threatened as he was ready to wield his sword.
"At the very least, you can tell us that, can't you? If you give us some answers, we won’t complain or cause any trouble to you.”
“....”
The guard fell into his thoughts for a breif moment before looking back at us.
“You’re going to be judged by the king who has recently arrived in this town. Now get moving before I use force." The guard gave us a brief explanation before returning to his usual attitude.
As we were on our way to whenever these guards were taking us, I noticed Yelena flying towards us.
She was flying really fast and immediately landed over Theresa’s arms.
"Hey, you! What is that?!” The guard inquired, alarmed by the appearance of the small dragon.
“It's our familiar. Don't worry, she's completely safe." I quickly explained to the guard, who immediately let out a sigh.
“Alright, you may take that as well.”
I was surprised how these guards were treating us as well.
They didn't handcuff us nor did they try to use physical force…
The way I imagined how they would arrest someone would be much harsher and strict since this world takes place in the middle ages.
We were taken somewhere to the south of the town where a small looking castle could be seen from here.
There were many guards which immediately opened their way for us to enter.
.
..
…
We were led into a large room where few people were visible whispering or conversing with the person next to them.
They were giving us strange looks, as if judging our appearance and walking manner.
As we continued walking forward where the seat of the king was located, I noticed both Aya and Theresa kneeling down. And that's what I did as well since I didn't want to act disrespectful towards anyone in here.
But the moment I glanced my eyes around me, I noticed a familiar person who was also kneeling down right beside Aya.
I think he was that merchant blonde kid who made a mess on one of the shop owners I used to sell coffee.
Is this matter related to us and this boy?
And as I was trying to connect the dots together on this matter, soon enough I got a clear understanding of what might have happened for the king to call us here.
“Everyone, kneel! The king is coming!” A man from the back loudly announced before the king walked inside the room and sat in the comfortable looking seat.
The king had expectedly golden hair, a not so long beard which showed his masculine side. His features were straight out of a fantasy story, and his face was stern the entire time.
"Are you aware of why I brought you here today?" The king inquired, his voice cold and impersonal but menacing at the same time.
And, to avoid any further misunderstanding, I decided to respond to his question.
“Excuse me. But I believe me and my companions have not been informed about why we’re here.”
“How dare you lie like that in front of the king!” The person who was standing straight next to the king shouted at me.
He must be the prime minister or some kind of noble to be talking that way.
"It's okay." The king softly spoke to the man next to him before directing his eyes to the blonde merchant. "Albrim's son."
“Yes!” The young guy quickly responded as he kept his head down while kneeling.
“Explain to that young man over there your accusations.” The king ordered with the same kind of expression.
“Yes!” The young merchant raised his head and looked at me. “You’ve been brought here for betraying and using your evil deeds to manipulate and kill the people of this kingdom. You used your position as a merchant, a job that is meant to provide the people of this kingdom the best kind of items and products. Things that are meant to feed and help this kingdom become stronger. And because of that, you used me to expand that kind of curse even further.”
W-wait, hold on? Used him? That guy must be on some kind of drugs because I find it hard to see myself doing such a thing to a young kid.
But I can see what is going on here. Basically, this guy is using my name in order to clear out his own.
“Hm.” The king returned his gaze to me after nodding at that kid's speech.
“I've never met that guy in my entire life, so there must be some sort of mistake. And I don’t even know his name to begin with.” I tried arguing since everything that was brought up until now were nothing else but a bunch of lies.
“He's clearly lying, Your Majesty! He used my good will and sold me all of his coffee, unaware of what they were made of!” The blonde kid snapped back.
I could see a bit of fear in his voice, and I knew that he was nervous about this kind of situation.
But now I fully understand what is going on. That kind must have tried to replicate coffee and failed miserably so he put the blame on me since I was the first one who sold them in this town.

"Do you have any evidence to back up your claim?" The man standing next to the king inquired while keeping both of his hands behind his back.
But I never sold or signed anything with him, therefore I don't believe there is any evidence of me selling coffee to him.
“Yes!” But his confidence never faded away from the tone of his voice. “I have proof of him signing in the merchant's guild for the first time. In this town. And right off the bat, that person managed to spread that curse on different shops and merchants, including me. That proves he was the first one to bring such a thing into this kingdom. He tricked me into thinking I was purchasing one of the world's best drinks.”
When I glanced at Aya and Theresa, I could see how nervous and anxious they felt about this. They knew I was innocent, but right now they held no power against the king.
“Sigh...” I guess I should finish this quickly.
I don’t want to drag this out any longer and give any more stress to these two girls.
“May I say something?” I asked as I looked directly into the king’s eyes.
His eyes narrowed as he was relaxing his chin over his fist. “Permission, granted.”
“Firsty, I am the one who created and spread coffee in most of the merchants in this town.”
Many people in the room began talking at the same time, resulting in a mixture of noises from people arguing with each other.
“Everyone! Quiet!” The man next to the king shouted at the crowd of people sitting or standing up in this room.
The room fell silent once again.
“So you agree that you hold responsibility for harming and manipulating that young man over there as well?" The king inquired, his eyes gleaming with murderous intent.
"No, I take no responsibility for that." I refuted as I got up and looked at how the king was looking down on everyone.
“You imbecile! How dare you disrespect the k–”
“Fermin. Be quiet.”
The minister next to the king tried threatening me but he was cut off by the king as he softly raised his hand.
"Go on." The king said as he was waiting for me to say my defenses.
"As I previously stated. I hold absolutely no responsibility over the people which were harmed. Since this drink is manufactured from a poisonous tree, it has negative consequences for humans. That is why I used a specific procedure to remove the poison, leaving a delicious potion that can strengthen the body, enhance stamina, and cure injuries in the end." I began explaining as the king and many more people in this room were listening to me in great interest.
Some of the people in this room could even be heard arguing.
"I did hear that this potion could cure many diseases."
"This was the topic of the town for some days."
"That could be true, because many people seemed to enjoy that type of drink."
"Even between commoners this was something they used on a daily basis."
"I'm surprised that it can do that."
"But how did it harm humans when many rumors claim that it did not?"
While I couldn't hear everyone at the same time, I was able to pick up on a few conversations.
And before the room became quiet once again, I decided to continue the explanation.
“And I am confident that none of my potions were har–”
“Your majesty, that's simply a bunch of lies! I’ve searched all over the kingdom and he had no real identity! It's almost as if he didn't exist for the past month! He's the one who infiltrated our kingdom and harmed its amazing people who are relying on your incredible leadership."
But I was interrupted by the blonde merchant once again.
The king's eyes narrowed once more as he listened to that blonde merchant's statement. It seemed like he was thinking about this.
“....”
“....”
“....”
Then the king glanced at Theresa who still was keeping her head down.“Richard’s daughter.”
Theresa’s eyes widened in surprise.
“What’s your name?” The king asked with his eyes that seemed… unusual when talking to her.
Also… did he call Theresa, Richard’s daughter?
“Theresa. My name is Theresa.” Theresa quickly responded as she kept her head down, trying not to disrespect the king.
“Hmm…” The king rubbed his chin as he looked like he was reminded of something pleasant. “How do you know that person over there?”
Theresa looked up at the sudden question before softly smiling at me. “He’s the person that saved my life. The person who gave me a meaning to keep using my sword. And... the person to whom I devoted my heart."
The king’s eyes widened at Theresa’s confession before softly smiling. “Your father. Richard. Was one of the most skilled knights in the kingdom. It makes me happy to see his traits in his daughter as well."
“I'm honored to hear such words!” Theresa lowered her head once again, her face beaming with delight at the king's praise.
Hold on. If the king is treating Theresa like this because her father was a knight… Was that also the reason why we weren’t treated like prisoners when brought here?
“This does make things harder since you hold that boy dear to you.” The king mused, making himself heard to us.
“Your majesty, you can’t possibly let him go unharmed! He d–”
“Quiet!”
The blonde merchant tried arguing, only to be interrupted by an annoyed king.
“....”
“....”
“....”
“....”
“Your majesty, may I say something?” I inquired, my gaze falling on the king, who was trying to figure out what to do about our situation.
“You may talk.”
“Thank you.” I took a glimpse at the blonde merchant before looking back at the king fully confident. “I can prove that me and my companions are innocent.”
The king looked at me with his suspicious eyes about what I was trying to say.
“I don’t know when these symptoms appeared in this town, but I can say that I’ve been away on a quest for more than a week from this town. If you don’t believe me, you can ask the guild about the recent quest which required a lot of adventurers.” I don’t know if the information about completing the dungeon outbreak has arrived in this town yet, but I believe that it's worth giving this a shot.
“That's a lie! He can’t be a merchant and an adventurer at the same time. That's common sense!”
After hearing what the blond merchant said, the king glanced at me with suspicion and a hint of rage. But he didn't seem to need that kid's explanation to know that I couldn't be an adventurer.
"I never said anything about being an adventurer... But that doesn't go the same for my companions. They’ve been helping me out a lot while I’ve simply been supporting them from afar with my potions. It's the least I can do for them.”
The blonde merchant greeted his teeth as he didn’t want to accept defeat yet. “That’s still a lie! Some low ranked adventurers would stand no chance in that dungeon outbreak! It's simply impossible and unreasonable to think of!”
The room became noisy again as many people that were in this room were arguing over this fact. I wasn't surprised to see that many of them agreed with that young merchant.
When I glanced towards him, I noticed how he had an evil looking smirk on his face, telling me that he had already won.
And once the room became quiet again, the king looked at me. “Do you have anything else to say?”
“I have a letter for your majesty. May I?”I inquired before receiving a nod of approval from the king.
"What good can a letter do for you anyway? You're done for." The blonde merchant whispered under his breath. But thanks to my great hearing, I managed to hear what he said.
“Then excuse me.” I moved towards Aya and pulled the letter out of her dimensional pocket.
A guard came towards me and gently grabbed the letter and gave it to the king.
"This is…" The king looked at the letter in a bit of surprise, realizing who the sender of the letter was.
But once the king read the content inside the letter, his eyes widened in sheer disbelief. “Guards. Have him executed!” The king gave the order while glaring at the young merchant, who was taken aback by the orders.
